Brakes and Tires

Vehicles require brakes and tires to be steered and controlled. Tires allow better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion to absorb the shock, while brakes control the spin of the tires, thus controlling the speed of the vehicle.

How do you adjust the parking brake on a 1992 Buick Regal?

I had an 88 buick regal and the e-brake pedal on the left front lower part of the driver side compartment was "pump to set". In other words, pumping the pedal and releasing several times is supposed to automatically adjust the e-brake, providing everything is working properly. As with mine, I replaced the rear calipers many times because they were a bad design and always got mucked up back there being so exposed to the elements. Where the e-brake cables attatch to the caliper was always freezing up because of dirt and debris. Make sure your e-brake cables really are good and free, then lubricate the hell out of the spring and attatching assy on the caliper. The calipers need to function properly too. If they are sticking, then it may have an affect on the e-brake assy. It's always best to use the e-brake often, as many automatics w/e-brake are seldom used and freeze up. Good luck.

What is the best tire to substitute for a 195 70 14 on my caviler?

First you need to ask... substitute for what reason? You car comes with a 14inch wheel and it has a set width, so unless you're changing rims, you're limited to the size of tire that that rim can hold. The 70 number in the tire size is the sidewall percentage of rummer, meaning that if you were to take the rubber that makes the tire and lay it flat on the ground and take 35% of the rubber on each side and curl that up to make the sidewall, that would make 70% of the rubber is the sidewall and 30% would be tread.

You'd have to check with a tire shop, but perhaps if you wanted a little lower profile, a 205/60 14

Can you put 195 65R tires on a rim that now has 195 55R Tires?

Yes you can as long as the rim diameter is the same. You left off the last number on your size. The sidewall will be taller on the 65 versus the 55 and this will affect the overall diameter of the tire so your speedometer may/will be off depending on the year of your car. The 65 will make less revolutions per mile than the 55.

What size tire for 2001 aztek?

My 2001 came with 215/70-15" Tires, but I wasn't happy with the way they handled, so I put 225/60-R16's mounted on Cadillac STS Wheels on the car, and it drives much better, and looks better with the nicer wheels as well.

Depending on the style you like, many of the GM wheels will fit, as long as they have a 5 bolt pattern (5x4.53in/115mm), enough Offset (40 to 45mm), and Backspacing (5.8 to 6.6") to clear Brake rotors and Body panels, up to an 18" 235/50-18 Wheel/Tire combination.

You can go to www.tirerack.com, and check to see which Wheels will work for you by clicking on a specific Year, Make, and Model, and looking at the sizes of the Aftermarket wheels, to see if they meet the above criteria.

If you just want to stay with the Stock 15" wheel, then try to go with the ta.llest, widest tire that you can fit on that Wheel, say a 225 or 235/60-15, because the car will handle better, and the Tires won't wear out as fast.

Hope this helps.
