Was odette churchill related to Winston churchill?

No. During World War 2, she worked with a British agent in France by the name of Peter Churchill - who wasn't related to Winston Churchill either, but when they were both arrested by the Gestapo, she claimed that she was married to Peter and that he was related to Winston, in the hope that they would get better treatment from the Gestapo. Her ploy didn't work and they were both tortured by the Germans.

Did Winston Churchill believe in God?

no, Churchill did not have any religious views. (Wrong)

Yes and no. Churchill believed in a sort of Divine providence or God but was very critical of over zealous religion and dogmatism. He was a deist at most. He believed in an afterlife (He claimed to have encountered Abraham Lincoln's ghost while staying at the white house) and often alluded to God in his speeches.

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat…. You ask what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war by sea, land and air with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask what is our aim? I can answer in one word: Victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road will be; for without victory, there is no survival."

"Which way shall we turn to save out lives and the future of the world? It does not matter so much for old people: they are going soon away; but I find it poignant to look at youth in all its activity and ardour…and wonder what would lie before them if God wearied of mankind"

Would children have been evacuated to Australia during the war.?

No, it was too far away. They would not run the risk of the children being killed on a sunken ship. Some families did move to the US or Ireland or Switzerland. They came back either after the war or after the blitz ended. Most just went to the countryside of the United Kingdom.

Was the womens land army in World War 2 a voluntary army or a conscription army?

The United States Army and other armed services were a combination. There were huge amounts of volunteers, but there was also a draft instituted. It was pretty much a given that sooner or later young men would end up going into the service. Many that volunteered where taking the service they were going to end up in into their own hands so they got a choice and not the luck of the draw. About 60 percent of the Armed Forces in WW-II were conscripted. The Navy and Coast Guard rarely had to draw from this pool. There were fewer volunteers for the Marine Corps as the war progressed and the casualty figures began to be reported. It didn't matter, draftee or volunteer, they all served their country and served it well. Bless them all. The 85th "Custer" Infantry Division and the 88th "Blue Devil" Infantry Division were two division made up of all draftee soldiers.

How did world war 2 effect England culture?

It completely destroyed it in my opinion. England had to give away everything it had, and go into massive debt to "win" ww2. When you compare German society to British society today, it's glaringly obviously that Germany is the the overall winner. People are less aggressive, there is far less violence in the streets, and the young people are quite polite and still have respect for their elders. Don't believe me? Have a look on German news websites, how many stabbings/beatings/murders do you see each day? Nothing compared to the count in England. I went back to England last year after nearly 30 years absent, and was completely shocked, England no longer exists for me.

What were Great Britain accomplishment during world war 1?

1. GB (then England and Wales) was the first nation to break from the Catholic Church and give the Protestant religion a 'homeland'. If this hadn't happened, the Catholic Church would have retained a stranglehold and the Enlightenment would have been unlikely to have happened.

2. GB was the first nation to abolish slavery. It was the superpower then and used its navel might to help put an end to it.

3. The industrial revolution was born in GB. The world as we know it began there.

4. It sacrificed its empire to stop fascism taking hold of the world.

5. British inventors invented the internet, t.v, the phone, the list goes on

6. I saw the Olympics, not bad!

Basically, the British Empire was pretty good and passed the baton to the U.S at the end of WW2 because it had no money left to keep its empire. The U.S was wary about GB and wanted to keep it weak and so let it suffer, however this was to the benefit of Stalin who FDR (and Truman) at the time thought was less harmful than British Imperialism.

At the end of the empire, GB let any country who wanted to leave do so. These countries joined 'the commonwealth' which is a loose affliation of counties who were part of the empire.

This was a far cleaner break than France, who insisted on keeping its empire but lost it anyway, losing wars in Algeria and Indochina.

This was also better than Germany's empire, which never really got off the ground due to it being taken away from it every time it lost a world war.
