When was Andrew Carnegie business made?
Andrew Carnegie came to America from Scotland, and after doing factory work, he went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad, as a telegrapher (he sent out messages, using the telegraph, which was how business communication was transmitted in those days). He developed a good understanding of the railroad business, and worked his way up in the company, eventually becoming an executive. He also began making investments into other businesses, especially the steel industry. He founded his own steel company in the 1870s, and built it into a force in the business world. In fact, by 1889, the Carnegie Steel Corporation was the largest steel company in the world. He became a very wealthy man and made millions.
Then, in 1901 he sold his business and decided to spend his remaining years focused on doing charitable work. He became a well-known philanthropist, donating to libraries and museums, and creating an institute for the study of peace. In 1904, he also established a university, today known as Carnegie-Mellon University.
Why was Henry Clay Frick known as America's Most Hated Man?
Frick was the chairman of Carnegie's steel company. Throughout his life, Frick was known to be a ruthless, cutthroat business man who would not negotiate with unions, who strove to maximize profits at the expense of his workers. In a sense he was a robber baron. During a strike at one of the companies largest steel plants, Frick brought in a team of mercenaries and killed nine workers. For these reasons, Frick was known as America's most hated man at the time, and was even attempted in assassination by the anarchists at one time after the strike.
Are the Hormel brothers important to Minnesota?
Yes. George A. Hormel founded what was later known as Hormel Foods in Austin, Minnesota in 1891, along with his younger brother Benjamin; several years later, brothers Herman and John also joined the business. Their meat-packing company specialized in pork and beef products. By 1910, Hormel had branches all over the state, and soon they expanded to offices in other states. Hormel also used a delivery system where drivers in special "sausage trucks" brought the fresh meat directly to consumers and also to markets. In addition, the company was credited with creating the first "canned ham" in 1926; it too became very popular nationwide. The success of Hormel Foods meant that it could employ thousands of people and soon Minnesota was known all over the rest of the United States, because so many people saw their newspaper and magazine ads and purchased Hormel products. The Hormel family also became known for its donations to charitable organizations and to the University of Minnesota.

What is a brand of denim jeans?
The best-known brand of denim jeans are made by Levi Strauss & Company, generally known as "Levis".
Levi Strauss had been a tailor in New York who, hearing of the discovery of gold in California in 1848, took ship around Cape Horn with plans to start a tailoring business in San Francisco. Unfortunately, his shipments of fine fabrics had been lost in the passage, and he was only able to obtain a very heavy cotton cloth called "denim", often used to make ships' sails. Strauss proceeded to make his fortune sewing very sturdy and durable clothing for the gold miners in California.
It's curious that very few gold miners ever "struck it rich" and went home with fortunes. It was the merchants who SOLD things to gold miners who became wealthy and famous.
