Also depends on the vehicle on my truck it says door open driver side i kept shutting it but it was passenger mine tells me door open but doesnt tell which one.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and wait a few minutes then reconnect the cable. But, if the problem that caused the light to come on hasn't been fixed the light will come back on.

Possible open circuit, check the connector at the evap canister for water and corrosion as this part is exposed to the elements and wet weather will cause moisture to enter the connector and replace the part as soon as possible your gas mileage will improve :)

Leaded fuel, an engine that burns oil... Not sure of ALL the things that can cause problems but those are sure high on the list.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

If the engine overheated, even a little, it could have damaged the head and head gasket. That's pretty much the only way they go bad.

Your mechanic and/or auto dealer may not bother to tell you that, just so you won't get upset with them, but anyone who works on engines regularly will confirm the fact.

The easiest thing to do is remove the inturment panel then remove the two bulbs that you no longer want to come on. I am sure someone could program the ecu not to turn them on but finding them and then the cost for it would be expensive.
