you can disconnect the negative cable at the battery for at least 30 seconds. if the problem is intermittent, the light will be out afterwards. if it comes right back on, seek a shop that does engine diag.

When a check engine light appears on a 1991 Honda Accord the ECU is letting the driver know the engine is sending an error signal. Sourcing out the problem through a diagnostics test will help narrow what could be something as simple as a blown fuse to something as terrible as a blown engine.

This sounds to me like one of the sensors could be giving you a problem. The areas I would look at are the throttle cable, and check the sensor connections one may be loose, with the choke light coming on that would point to the throttle cable or the idle. with a scan tool on some cars you can disconnect the battery a few minutes and the computer resets

Upon further invesigation I withdraw my answer (below). Apparently 1996 and newer cars have and OBD2 Computer, which means you have to pay a lot more to get the code. Sorry if I threw anybody off prevously.

[The easiest way I have found is to turn the ignition on and off three times (on, off, on, off, on). When you do this, the check engine light will flash the trouble code (ie. blink-blink-blink..pause..blink-blink = 32). If you have a repair manual, the codes should be listed in there. I have done this with every car I've owned it's way cheaper than spending the money on a scan tool that will tell you the same thing.]

well i know my focus service engine light was on and we just unhooked the battery for 20 seconds and now the light is off and it has been 1 month

I have an 01 Pontiac sunfire and I have noticed that the check gages light comes on when the gas is low. I have never seen any other indicator come on for low fuel.

P0455 requires two failures in a row to turn the light on. Pending means that it has failed the large leak test once. Treat it like an active code.

look a little closer, that one usually tells you that a door is ajar, and there should be a little open door at the correct door on the light.

Also depends on the vehicle on my truck it says door open driver side i kept shutting it but it was passenger mine tells me door open but doesnt tell which one.

it is obd1 so an autozone or advance cannot check it. some shops still have an obd1 scanner tool, you can buy the adapters at the stores above. its pretty pricey to get the adapter tho cause you still need to buy the scanner too. i would take it to a shop unless you know how to jump the ecu to get it to flash(i believe you can do that on nissans too).
