The easiest way is to just plain purchase and alternator for about $92.00 and this will save you alot of time and any possible chance of shorting out regulator and diodes.

To do it right, so it will last another 200"000 miles would cost about 1,700 dollars for machine work and all the extra parts. ANd that is you pulling the engine and taking it apart and then you putting it back together and back in the truck.

The RWD Nova compact's last year was 1979, the FWD Nova subcompact's last year (the Toyota Corolla clone) was 1988.

If you pull the turn signal swithch out of the way ther is a small slot with casting flash in it, there is a screww stand in the same are, take a a small flat screwdriver and punch out the casting flash, turn the ignition to the "run" position and take a flat tool like a feeler guage and push down on the lock cylinder release, it will take afew tries, you will feel it push in about 1/16" or so, keep pushing and pull the cylinder out at the same time. You will see either clips or bolts holding the rear of the seat Release these and lift rear of seat up to release upper clips to remove seat back

NO!!!! The Chevelle is a bigger car than the Nova and has a longer wheelbase, which means it also has a longer driveshaft. A 4 door Chevelle also has a longer wheelbase than a 2 door, meaning it also has a longer driveshaft. You CAN have a Chevelle driveshaft shortened to fit a Nova because the vokes are the same, but it would be cheaper and easier to just get the right driveshaft to begin with.

Inside the rear of the alternator

Generally speaking, this is true. However, I believe that your 89 Mercury, like mine, will have an external voltage regulator located on the driver's side wheel well in the engine bay. It will be a square silver box about the size of a coaster. It may say motorcraft on it if it is OEM. By the way, if it is not connected, your alternator will not charge the battery :(.
