How did the sr-71-blackbird get its name?
The SR-71 Blackbird started life as the A-12 reconnaissance plane, built by Lockheed Skunk Works for the CIA who wanted a successor for the U-2 reconnaissance plane(which ironically, is still in service). The project was named "Archangel" and the result was Clarence Johnson's 12th design, hence the A-12 designation.
18 A-12's were produced, three were used as prototype interceptors for the USAF, designated YF-12's. These were modified to incorporate fire control radar from the canceled XF-108 Rapier, another Mach 3 capable aircraft and weapons payload bays to house missiles instead of the A-12's reconnaissance equipment.
The YF-12's underwent testing and almost 100 aircraft were ordered by the USAF. However due to budget cuts by the Secretary of Defense in 1965 these orders were cancelled and the program halted.
The USAF also ordered a reconnaissance version of the A-12 in addition to the YF-12's.
This was initially designated the R-12, it was lengthed to incorporate larger fuel tanks to increase range, it competed against a proposed XB-70, modified for reconnaissance and strike, designated the RS-70 for reconnaissance/strike.
The R-12 proved to have much better performance and was adopted by the USAF as the RS-71, taking over the bomber designation(new bomber designations have been the B-1 and B-2 since the 60's).
However Chief of Staff General Curtis LeMay preferred the SR (Strategic Reconnaissance) designation and had the designation changed in President Johnson's speech though the designation RS-71 was still present in places.
Ironically in all printed materials about the aircraft from Lockheed the aircraft is designated the R-12.
And that is the twisted history of the SR-71 Blackbird's name.

I lived in Brighton Park with my parents and grandparents in the 70s, we moved to Texas and my grandparents moved to Naperville, I was visiting Chicago in February and took the Archer bus down to my old neighborhood, and I was glad to see that the White Castle on Kedzie was still full of people over 50, still discussing the Cubbies and the Sox. As for the Cambells Soup Company, I have been scouring the internet looking for a photo of the giant soup can on top of the factory. If anyone has a picture please email me. (I'm looking for that and the giant Mustard barrel.)

- I haven't found an answer to that question yet. I've heard all sorts of good and bad things about JRP. But every scam story I've read has been located at a different JRP school; in Miami, Jacksonville, North Carolina, and California. But none so far about the Orlando school. I've read as many scam stories as i could find, and they are mostly in California. So watch out for that one. But i think you should maybe give it a shot if that's why your asking about it. Talk to a relative or close friend about it, and see what their opinion is. After all, if they have had people like Brenda Song from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody graduate from there, this could be your chance. Because look where she is at today. Don't let internet stories hold you back. They could always be made up to scare people.
JRP Schools are independently run acting schools, this includes the one in Orlando. JRP is a franchise; which means one John Robert Power school is not necessarily affiliated with another John Robert Power school. THE JRP of Orlando, is all INDEPENDENTLY owned and operated, as are all other JRP schools. This is very important to remember.
When you read about Tampa and San Diego, you may think they are all the same. For example, when you go to a Burger King and get bad service, that doesn't mean all Burger Kings are the same!Keep this in mind when reading general opinions or critiques about JRP schools.

- It is unfortunate what has happened to other places but Orlando John Robert Powers is awesome. I have had been on (5) agency callbacks and have personally auditioned for Joey Paul. I just think people need to be careful when dealing with anyone in this industry. I guess that is why they tell you they are independently owned and operated. Some people just don't know how to run the business and other people like Orlando do. THANKS GUYS. Also if I would have believed everything I read about the company I wouldn't have had the chance to be as close to fulfilling my dream as I am right now.
- First kids can get scholarships which help in paying. Second, there is payment plans and fundraisers to help. All the schools are franchises (independently owned and operated). You can do theatre but if you want tv and film then you need to study and casting directors will charge you for workshops usually 250 a pop. Really who are they to judge on charging too much it's all relative
- Yes they are all indeed a scam. I am a current student going there and paid a large sum of money for two years and have gone nowhere. They hire phony talent scouts that sit there and pretend that they are real. They pretend to tell you that you had a call back but then say that they have already hired somebody. They have been sued many times. The teachers that teach there are all fake. They know its a scam. The teachers there don't teach any real acting techniques and you just play games all the time. This is not real acting. Brenda Song signed up there but was discovered somewhere else. They are allowed to say that she is famous from there because when you sign up for JRP they make you sign this document that says if you become famous they can use your information to say that you were from there. If you sign up for JRP and then go to a real audition outside of JRP DON'T put that you've received classes from them. The real talent scouts know that JRP is a scam and that you have really no experience. Try to sue them its the best way to get your money back and to try to close them down before anybody else wastes their money on a fake school. Many children and teenagers go there actually thinking that they can get big from there but they don't.
