Where can you get BIOS?

You can look online for the bios manufacturer and contact them directly for an upgrade to your bios. Many will sell an upgrade if you give a credit card number. Make certain that you do a little separate investigation before you ever give your credit card info over the internet.

What is a washing mashine?

A washing machine accepts clothes, soap, and water, and emits sparkling clothes.

When is a device considered to be energy-effcient?

A device is considered to be energy-efficient when it performs its intended function while consuming less energy compared to similar devices. This can be assessed through metrics like energy use per output, such as lumens per watt for lighting or BTUs per kilowatt-hour for heating. Additionally, certifications like ENERGY STAR indicate that a device meets specific energy efficiency guidelines set by regulatory bodies. Ultimately, energy efficiency helps reduce energy consumption and lower utility costs while minimizing environmental impact.

What would you need to check for in the computer to maintain the standard monitor and to add an additional medical grade high resolution monitor?

You will either need a "dual-head" video card, or two video cards. Check that the medical monitor conforms to a PC standard - it may not. If it has a HD-15 or DVI video connector, then it should be standard - and easy to find a card that will work with it. If it has 3,4, or 5 BNC cables for video it will be much harder. In that case you need to look for a workstation graphics card - and probably something that is obsolete now. (Cheer up - that means it's cheaper!)

To use the full capabilities of this "high resolution" monitor, you may need to use a workstation graphics card even if the monitor has a standard connector. Check the refresh rate and resolution, and then compare with high-end consumer cards, and with workstation cards.

Some cards will support a very high refresh rate, but only at low resolution.

By "workstation card" I mean something like an nVidia Quadro or 3DLabs Wildcat or ATI FireGL. Note that these can cost upwards of $3000.

A circuit has two resistors of equal value in series The voltage and current in the circuit are 20 volts and 2 amps respectively What is the value of EACH resistor?

Ohms law states

Voltage = Current X Resistance, or as commonly represented, E=IR.

In this case plugging in the values (using basic algebra)

20 = 2R

or

10 = R

or as commonly stated

R=10.

So that lets us know the TOTAL resistance of the circuit.

Now, knowing that series resistance is "added", we can calculate the individual circuit resistance.

In a series circuit total resistance can be represented by 'R', and the individual resistance of each resistor can be represented by "R1", "R2", R3", and so forth. In a series circuit resistances can be calculated using the formula: R=R1+R2+R3...

Since we only have the two resistors the formula would be:

R=R1+R2

Knowing that the resistors are equal in value we can assume:

R=R1+R1

OR

R=2(R1)

OR

2(R1) = R

OR

R1 = 1/2R

Given that R is 10 (from above)

R1=1/2 * 10

or

R1 = 5

Each resistor equals 5 ohms

What is a device identifier?

A device identifier usually refers to a MAC address.

What is an interrupt and how are multiple interrupts dealt with?

An Interrupt is a signal that goes into a microprocessor that tells it something has happened that needs attention. There are generally dedicated pins on the microprocessor, often called "Int" (for Interrupt) and "NMI" (for Non-Maskable Interrupt). For a microprocessor, an interrupt signal is like the bell on a telephone is for you; it's a notice that you should stop what you are doing now and deal with this issue that has come up.

Exact procedures for dealing with an interrupt vary from one microprocessor to another; generally, the microprocessor puts out a signal that says "Where should I go, then?" and a piece of hardware, the Interrupt Controller, then responds with a signal that tells it which condition has happened. The processor then starts processing the indicated piece of code, and that piece of code handles the condition.

The Interrupt Controller often handles setting priority for interrupts, accepting a number of signals (often four), and setting priorities on each. It will trigger another interrupt in the middle of processing one if the new interrupt is a higher priority than the one that is already being processed, or will hold on to the lower priority one until the CPU is finished with a higher-priority one.

The CPU can often "disable interrupts" when it is doing something time-critical. At such times, the only interrupt that can occur is the Non-Maskable Interrupt, which is generally reserved for critical error conditions that have to be dealt with immediately no matter what else is going on.

Db9 pinout with color code?

Pin 1 - Black

Pin 2 - Brown

Pin 3 - Red

Pin 4 - Orange

Pin 5 - Yellow

Pin 6 - Green

Pin 7 - Blue

Pin 8 - Violet

Pin 9 - Gray

The function of each pin will depend on what signaling standard you are using. I am also unsure if these colors are ubiquitous, or if it just a standard that is typically followed.

Keep in mind this follow a very similar color-numbering system to resistors. Just remember that resistor color-numbering starts at 0, while pinouts start with 1. You will need to memorize that black and brown come first and gray comes last, the others follow the old ROYGBV of colors. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet. Indigo is usually skipped because it is too hard to make an indigo that won't be confused as either blue or purple. It's kinda like removing the letter "I" from alphanumeric tagging systems so as to not confuse it with the numeral "1." I used this to remember how to "count" with colors in college, and I use it regularly as an EE.

To find information on various pinout standards that use the DB-9 or DSUB-9 connectors you are left to your own searching via google or wikipedia for best results.

Good luck!

How you describe the Input and Process and Output Model of requirements analysis and design?

The IPO model is important as it is a blueprint for any programs or applications that will be developed. Especially data driven applications that rely on data coming in from other sources.

The input process takes data (raw, unprocessed data that is) from either a file, or from user input that needs to be converted into useful information that we can use and analyze. For instance, it could be that you wish to add two numbers, and the user is providing those numbers. Say, 3 and 5; or a file that contains multiple names of students that attend DeVry and you need to find out which is attending this class.

The processing step takes the data that was entered and perform some function on it that will make it more useful to the user. So, if I entered the two numbers to add, 3 and 5, this process will perform that calculation by adding them together 3 + 5 = 8, and store the results in memory (could be a variable of some sort). Or in the case of the file with DeVry students, it would search for this course ID among the students and sort them by what ever means that was provided, maybe by last name or D number.

The output process takes the information that was processed in the previous step and put it in a readable format where we can then use that information. For instance, it could print out 3 + 5 = 8 to the monitor or display so we can act on that answer. Or it could print out a hard copy of all the students that are attending CIS115 on Mondays sorted by their last names.

Skipping a step can be detrimental because we will not be able to solve the problem we first started out with when we decide to build a program. If you don't take any data, then the program will not know what to act on or what to process. In a data driven program, it would use what ever is in memory at that time if no data is given and print out garbage data. Secondly, if you do not process the 'data, then you just wasted your time writing the program to begin with. Your output will be black of have no useful information if the data is not processed. Last, but not least, if you can't get the data that was processed, then the program is useless.

What devices can be used with expansion port 3?

Expansion Port 3 is HP's proprietary docking station connector. At this point it only looks like it can be used for connecting to an HP docking station.

The answer above is correct. The Expansion Port 3 is a docking port connector for HP Docks like the QuickDock KN744AA. This docks have VGA out, S/PDIF Coaxial connection, Wired LAN connection for Gigabit Ethernet, 1/8" line in and line out jacks, and 6 USB 2.0 ports. You also plug the laptop's power supply into the dock and the dock then provides power to the laptop through the Expansion Port 3. I have tried USB Docks and ExpressCard Docks and have to say that HP's Expansion Port 3 Connector w/ the above Dock works flawlessly under Windows 7.

What does PCI stand for?

Peripheral Component Interconnect

Some times referred to as "Peripheral Component Interface" incorrectly.

How many characters can be stored on a 3.4 gigabyte?

Using UTF-8 encoding, 1 character equals 1 byte of data. Using a conversion process of x1024:

3.4 gigabytes = 3481 megabytes

3481 megabytes = 3565158 kilobytes

3565158 kilobytes = 3650722201 bytes

Therefore, a 3.4GB hard drive will store 3,650,722,201 characters (3.65 billion).

How do you disable a storage device by using BIOS and configure driver signing verification?

Disabling a storage device may be possible by entering the BIOS, finding the controller settings, and turning off the port you wish to disable. In some BIOSes, there is no option to disable controllers, unplugging the power from the device will work as well. Depending on the version of Windows you are running, configuring driver signing verification will differ. On Windows 7, one method of configuring it is to open a command prompt as an Admin and type bcdedit -set load options DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS followed by bcedit -set TESTSIGNING ON.

Why is defragmentation useful?

It's like keeping your paper work in order. If your paper work was never in order then you will never know were to find what you're looking for. You will find what you're looking for but this process will take you a very long time. This is how the computer works when searching for the file replace the word "paper" in the first paragraph with "file" and replace the word "your" with computer. Defragmentation Speeds and organises files so the disk can read what ever process your doing quicker , more sufficient and will stop computer from issues in the future.

What is a ferromagnetic element?

Some ferromagnetic elements are:

Iron

Nickel

Cobalt

Gadolinium

Dyprosium Ferromagnetic means- a substance such as iron in which the magnetic moments of the atoms spontaneously line up with each other, making a large net magnetic moment. Ferromagnets lose their ferromagnetism when heated above a specific temperature (called the Curie point), because the thermal energy melts the magnetic alignment, a bit like the way crystals melt when heated.
