What is the difference between Sybase ASE and Sybase IQ?

There are two answers to this.

Sybase, or Sybase Incorporated, is a company that makes software products for enterprise systems. The company has two subsidiaries, iAnywhere and Sybase 365, both of which focus on mobility solutions. So when you say "Sybase", you are actually talking about a company.

A lot of people use the term "Sybase" to describe Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise, or Sybase ASE. This is similar to saying "Oracle", when you mean "Oracle 10g". ASE is the large scale enterprise database, and competes directly with Oracle 10g and IBM DB2. It is a row based storage RDBMS, suitable for On Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) as well as data storage and reporting.

Sybase has three other database products: Sybase IQ, SQL Anywhere, and Advantage. Each is designed for a specific market.

Sybase IQ is an RDBMS which uses a column-based storage system. This means it stores data based the column the data comes from, and not the row the data is associated with.

Column based storage has become a very popular design over the last few years, because it is very efficient at producing reports and can hold a lot of archival data in a much smaller footprint.

Sybase IQ has been around for over 10 years, and is about to hit release 15.0 (sometime in the first half of 2009). This is signifcantly longer than some of it's competitors, who have only just started building column oriented storage systems. For this reason it is very popular for most reporting applications, incuding data warehouses and datamarts.

Sybase IQ uses the same SQL syntax as Sybase ASE, and is fully ANSI SQL compliant. It stores data in tables, the same way as other relational databases. Any application or reporting engine that can run queries against Sybase ASE (or any relational database, for the most part) can use Syabse IQ. The only difference is "under the hood" in the disk storage mechanism.

What is the difference between DB and DBMS?

dBm us almost exactly the same as dB.

The only difference is that there is a reference of 1 Watt = 0 dB, and 1 mW = 0 dBm.

Sorry but that is incorrect. db is a ratio and not an absolute value, by it self it means nothing. you got the dbm part right, 1 mW = 0 dbm and it is an absolute value.

How do you insert a new row in dbms?

Database rows are held in a structure called table (there are several types of tables).

Each table is comprised from columns, defined by name and data types. One has to use the Structured Query Language (SQL), in order to perform data changes, using DML (Data Manipulation Language), such as INSERT (adding), UPDATE (changing) and DELETE (removing) data.

Is Tactical information system the same as Transactional information system?

No, it is different. Transactional information system records, analyse and process daily first line operations of an organization. A tactical information system gather, agglomerates and transform the records generated by transactional and lower level systems and provide its results to executive level for decision making activities. A transactional system would be a order e commerce suite, and the tactical system would be a reporting suite delivering info on how many sales have been made per region, etc... Some vendors offers a full range of systems such as Microsoft, oracle etc... whereas other such a business object reports focuses only on a specific line of business.

How many popular picture file types are there for computers What are the advantages and disadvantages In your opinion which do you find the best?

In all honesty, there are too many picture formats to count. Each format has it's own pros and cons to it. Usually, it depends on the need for pictures in order to determine which format should be used.

JPEG - Most common, good quality, very small file size, saving a JPEG many times will lessen the quality of photos, most compatible

Bitmap (BMP) - very basic and are slowly being replaced, not compressed, could be very large

PNG - not fully compatible with windows, mainly used in Macs, can store transparency, very high quality, I don't believe that it is compressed.

GIF - very small, lower quality, only 256 colors, mainly used online

RAW - very high quality, not very commonly used, not compressed, very large file sizes

TIFF - same as RAW but smaller file sizes, best used with edited photos when quality and zoom are factors

Koala - only works with certain software, hardly compatible, little known about this format, is still very new

These are just some of the many formats. Personally, I use JPEGs for everything on my Windows PC but I do use PNGs when I'm saving photos with transparent sections.

How can you make your website have login and registration forms that work together?

This is usually done through PHP, which is a scripting language. If you are looking for a forum with login and registration, there are several programs around for free that you can use. Otherwise if you need something other than a forum, you will probably need to learn PHP which can take weeks to learn and years to master. I would suggest searching for PHP code or getting a book on learning PHP.
