How to Build Accessible or ADA compliant.?
There are many advantages to building ACCESSIBLE or ADA COMPLIANT. There is one good reference that I would send you to first. That is your local building official. This person will be able to tell you which codes are applicable in your area. They also can help you understand how they are interpreting these codes and specifications. Why would this be important? Isn't the code written in black and white? Yes and YES… however, the bible is also written in black and white and you know how many different interpretations there are on that one. Seccond there is a place called the Access Board. They are tasked with developing and interpreting the Fair Housing Act (FHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). Here is a link to their site (www.access-board.gov).
How do you remove candle wax from inside kitchen plumbing?
It sounds to me like you have a big problem. The first step would probly be to remove the trap under the sink. If it was a small amount of wax it will probly be all in the trap. If it was a large amount of wax then your going to have a problem. I have only one other suggestion and that would be to keep a steady stream of boiling water down the drain. It will keep the wax melting and maybe take it all the way out of the drain sytem. On the other hand of it was a very large amount of wax you might have to try getting a drain snake and pushing it out. my last suggestion would cost the most and that would be to replace the drain sytem. good luck, shaun
Our 4 yr old dumbed about a cup and half of hot wax down our sink tonight. We removed the p trap and there it all was! We cleaned out trap and ran boiling hot water thru the sink...wahla! good as new! SASHA

Is the stench resulting from a plastic tong melting on the dishwasher heating element toxic?
It is possible that melting plastic in a dishwasher or other appliance can create toxic fumes. It largely depends on the type of plastic which is being melted. The best bet would be to properly ventilate the area and go into another area of the house until the smell is gone.
How do you turn the water to the toilet off?
Behind and/or under the toilet is a shut off valve. You only need to turn it like turning the faucet off. If that doesn't work, you'll have to turn off the main valve located outside the house in some cases.
If the surface that is coming off is teflon (typically gray or black in color), you need to throw the pots away and replace them. There is some evidence that ingesting teflon is not safe.
Can a dirty dishwasher make you sick?
If the dishwasher contained raw meats or old foods, and it did not get clean, it may get ou sick. If you feel bad, see your doctor.

Is washing soda an eco safe alternative to automatic dishwasher detergent?
Yes, washing soda (sodium carbonate) is environmentally safe. Sodium is ubiquitous in the environment; it is one of the ions that make up table salt, as well as being a component of sand and many other minerals. Carbonate is found in limestone and some other minerals. The main contribution of sodium carbonate to washing (whether dishes, clothes, or whatever) is to increase the pH (make the water more basic) so as to help convert fats to soaps. It does this job better if mixed with equal parts of borax (as in twenty mule team).
Do you need a separate breaker to install a dishwasher and garbage disposal?
Codes differ everywhere, - however if I as renovator install these appliances, I always put each one on a dedicated separate breaker.
Its a loss in water pressure to the shower.
In-Sink-Erator can a dishwasher be used at the same time as a insinkerator?
Yes, I do it all the time! I use my dishwasher to clean the dishes and large pots and pans get washed in the sink at the same time. All the crud from the pots and pans then gets sent down the drain through my In-Sink-Erator disposer.
Can you eliminate the air vent on top of sink for a dishwasher?
Yes, the air vent (air gap) is very much required!! It prevents water from traveling from the sink drain pipe or garbage disposal and into the dishwasher.
Yes, you certainly can. I bought and old portable dishwasher with a chipped up and ugly top. Here's how: Open the door of the dishwasher and inspect the underside of the top. You'll notice a couple of screws holding some metal brackets (attached to the dishwasher) to the top. Just unscrew them (they'll be located front and back, probably) and lift off the top. Measure it and have a piece of butcher block cut to the same measurements. Then just fit the new top on the old dishwasher brackets and screw the screws up tight.
I did this recently and it turned out great. Plus, the butcher block top now goes with everything.
There is purpose made braided SS Anti-Burst flexible line. It comes in 6 and 8 foot lengths
Drain pipe for dishwasher backs up when draining?
If it goes into a garbage disposal, the disposal needs cleaning. If it goes into a tube in the sink drain, check that for plugs. Is the drain hose open all the way, no kinks?
Why is my dishwasher draining out of the drain air gap?
The rubber hose leading from your airgap to your garbage disposal or drain pipe is propably plugged. Remove hose and clean or replace. Also, when you remove the hose leading from the airgap to the garbage disposal, check to ensure that your stopper plug is removed from the garbage disposal.
The stopper plug is a metal or rubber plug placed in the garbage disposal for people that don't have a dishwasher. The best way to remove this plug is by taking a screwdriver and placing it on the plug and gently tapping the butt of the screwdriver with a hammer until the plug pops out. Use metal fingers to remove the plug from the upper hopper chamber of the garbage disposal or (if you are daring enough) remove with your hands.
What is the quietest brand of dishwasher that gets the dishes the cleanest?
The most quiet dishwasher in the local retail market is a Bosch, going as low as 40dba. However, Bosch is a German-designed dishwasher, which means some cookware may be difficult to fit because of the units design and interior size. There are some good kitchenaids out there that go as low as 41dba, but for the price tag on the kitchenaids, the Bosch would be quite suitable. All the Bosch is lacking is bells and whistles and design when compared to the kitchenaids. Now, best bang for your buck? Samsung. Quiet, efficient and affordable! On a side note, don't become destracted by terms like "quiet guard", "ultra quiet guard", "quiet guard plus", "quiet pak" so on and so forth. These terms mean absolutely nothing but commercial marketing. It's like whitening toothpaste vs. ultra whitening, there's no proven difference. The only way to actually rate a dishwashers quietness is to go by decible rating. And in all actuality, any unit under 52dbl should not be loud enough for the ear to detect unless you're standing within a foot of the machine while running.
How do you solve the problem of Dishwasher waste and washing machine waste and one waste pipe?
Buy a branch connector
Unfortunately, nobody has been able to come up with a method for making water drain uphill. You can, however, purchase a pump that will send the water up to your existing drain.
AnswerI am thinking that the person who asked this question may have beenrefering to the drain line going up hill in a confusing way.If there is a line already going into the basement floor, that line would be your waste line.If this is the case, you can cut a Y into the Waste line.I am not a professional plumber.I will not go into the details of how to do this, because I would not want to misslead. If the Y fitting is cut into the waste line, I am pretty sure it still requires venting the washer above the highest line entering the waste line.It would still require some work, but not having to jack hammer the basement floor.
Why would water gurgle back up out of the washer drain?
I am assuming that the question means the water backs up when the washer is used. When the washer drains, it forces a significant amount of water into your pipes in a fairly short period of time. If your pipes are even partially blocked, this large quantity of water can overload the system. However, if this problem occurs at times other than when you do laundry, and there are no other indications of slow or blocked drain lines, I am stumped.
