There are many advantages to building ACCESSIBLE or ADA COMPLIANT. There is one good reference that I would send you to first. That is your local building official. This person will be able to tell you which codes are applicable in your area. They also can help you understand how they are interpreting these codes and specifications. Why would this be important? Isn't the code written in black and white? Yes and YES… however, the bible is also written in black and white and you know how many different interpretations there are on that one. Seccond there is a place called the Access Board. They are tasked with developing and interpreting the Fair Housing Act (FHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). How do you remove candle wax from inside kitchen plumbing?
It sounds to me like you have a big problem. The first step would probly be to remove the trap under the sink. If it was a small amount of wax it will probly be all in the trap. If it was a large amount of wax then your going to have a problem. I have only one other suggestion and that would be to keep a steady stream of boiling water down the drain. It will keep the wax melting and maybe take it all the way out of the drain sytem. On the other hand of it was a very large amount of wax you might have to try getting a drain snake and pushing it out. my last suggestion would cost the most and that would be to replace the drain sytem. good luck, shaun

It is possible that melting plastic in a dishwasher or other appliance can create toxic fumes. It largely depends on the type of plastic which is being melted. The best bet would be to properly ventilate the area and go into another area of the house until the smell is gone.

Yes, you certainly can. I bought and old portable dishwasher with a chipped up and ugly top. Here's how: Open the door of the dishwasher and inspect the underside of the top. You'll notice a couple of screws holding some metal brackets (attached to the dishwasher) to the top. Just unscrew them (they'll be located front and back, probably) and lift off the top. Measure it and have a piece of butcher block cut to the same measurements. Then just fit the new top on the old dishwasher brackets and screw the screws up tight.

AnswerI am thinking that the person who asked this question may have beenrefering to the drain line going up hill in a confusing way.If there is a line already going into the basement floor, that line would be your waste line.If this is the case, you can cut a Y into the Waste line.I am not a professional plumber.I will not go into the details of how to do this, because I would not want to misslead.If the Y fitting is cut into the waste line, I am pretty sure it still requires venting the washer above the highest line entering the waste line.It would still require some work, but not having to jack hammer the basement floor.
Why would water gurgle back up out of the washer drain?
I am assuming that the question means the water backs up when the washer is used. When the washer drains, it forces a significant amount of water into your pipes in a fairly short period of time. If your pipes are even partially blocked, this large quantity of water can overload the system. However, if this problem occurs at times other than when you do laundry, and there are no other indications of slow or blocked drain lines, I am stumped.
