My 1992 Dodge Stealth ES is doing the same thing.. and I had the tranny rebuilt only about a year ago.

Turns out, the Transmission ECU was fried... no power to the tranny at all so it defaults in 3rd gear...

Do you have a 'PWR' & 'ECO' transmissions mapping switch in your center console? One indicator for me that the ECU was fried is that the light on the dash board did not come on when it was set to Power. (No lights should be on when it is on economy.)

Any time you have to reset the ECM, all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery cable for about 15 seconds--if you've replaced the sensor--I just had to do that twice--the first one apparently was bad so I had to buy another one and now that fault is gone.

91 octane/premium fuel

bad coil pack on cylinders, find or pull ignition wires and you can tell by no loss of power.

Locate the black filter that is located under the battery tray on the passenger side of the Stealth/3000Gt, You will need to remove the battery, Then the bolts that are on the battery tray, there are some bolts that are strictly for the wiper fluid resivoir which will be connected to the battery tray. This must be removed. Then the fuel filter will be locares below where the tray was and will be mounted onto the firewall. you will need to metric wrenches either 16mm or 17 mm. Becareful not to bend the metal fuel lines they are fragile. Then follow the steps to replace everything...

Chrysler manufactured its last Dodge Stealth in 1996, replacing its Ferrari aerodynamic styling with a hideous looking, overly expensive Dodge Viper.

Check the battery, or the alternator, check for a missing fuss or maybe your spark plugs aren't catching, check the gas line, get more gas, check the transmission. If your car hasn't been running for a long time then let it run for a couple minutes.

I have a '92 that's doing that too. I believe that it's down to the ECU. I get a clicking from under the dash when trying to start and when it suddenly shuts down. I already replaced the fuel relay (wasn't that..waste of money). That's the direction I'm going. The ECU is behind your stereo, you need to remove both carpeted panels, one on the driver's side one on the pass. side. Then there is 2 screws on the driver's side and one on the pass. side. It's a gold colored box. They are hard to find, expensive when you do, and I would be careful of the "rebuilt" ones without a warranty.

Dodge does not use inertia/reset switches

Premium unleaded fuel, sure its pricey but itll run much better with the higher quality fuel.

91 octane is best, but av gas at 110 octane runs great when you run it hard

just need a good tune up and again ajust the throttle body rpm screw.

a dodge stealth is not in the same standing as a celica.A stealth will out perform a celica any day.drives better ect...A dodge stealth is a high performance sports car that was way ahead of its time.A DODGE STEALTH is the funnest car i have ever driven...over vette, supra ect I have drove them all.A STEALTH RT/TT AWD will blow out a vette,supra very easy. I own 2 stealths and a zo6 vette,the stealth will leave it in the dust....From the jam packed cockpit that has all the gagues you will ever need to a very powerful v6 twin turbo awd ,Suspension,Drivetrain, Electronics,Steering & Chassis,Interior,Body & Lighting,and just plain looks..... __________________________________________________________________ ^I tried to read that and believe and understand some of it, but i couldn't. So here's my take: It depends on what you're looking to do. You didn't mention if it was an RT, or just the base FWD version on the Stealth, and you didn't mention what trim level Celica. If you're going to compare base model to base model, i would say that the Celica is a more capable, reliable car. The Stealth weighs almost 1000lbs more than a Celica, and that isn't exactly condusive to performance. The Stealth is also a huge pain to work on, it's an extremely packed, cluttered engine bay. It gets worse gas mileage, build quality isn't as high as on the Celica.... the list goes on. If you're looking for end result in performance, the ultimate horsepower car... then you get the Stealth RT and spend the rest of your life dumping money into it, busting your knuckles trying to wrench on it, and even though your car may have eleventy million horsepower.... it still weighs WAY too much to ever feel "nimble." Neither is better than the other.

under the icm which is under the coil packs u should have a couple elec connectors screwed in the side of motor the one you want is the second one I think if not the third.....JAC

Mine is an ES. I got it up to 130mph. may go faster but that was fast enough for me.

I had my rt tt at 154 and will never do it again. i highly recommend that you do not try this. the car will burry the speedometer. mine goes to 180 and will never be close to that again.

The tail lights are accessed through the rear inside of car. 1. open back hatch. 2. remove cover plates on inside rear of trunk trim. 3. remove the nuts holding the rear light assembly. 4. remove bulb holder(twist lock mount) and remove bulb. Because Autumn is the most subtle of the seasons. Before you know it it's already winter and you missed it. It's therefore "stealthy" in nature.

determine WHY its overheating first. Are there leaks in any of the hoses? relace the hose. Is the fan turning on? if not, repair fan and or temp switch that turns it on. Is there oil in the water or water in the oil? If so, head gasket repair. Is there white smoke coming out the exhaust? if so, head gasket repair. Is there pressure(many bubbles) in the radiator? water blows out? if so, head gasket repair. Also any cracks in the radiator itself? Easily sealed if so. It needs to be refilled with coolant occasionally...is that empty? Solution= fill it...with a good water mixture in the radiator as well. As mentioned above water in the oil is not good...it'll look "white-ish". ********************* Another question is "How do you know it's overheating? What are the symptoms?" When my temp gauge spiked recently, it turned out to just be a failed Temperature Sending Unit. (The cooling system was working just fine, my thermometer was broken...)

The engine is clicking with all of the interior lights on? Dead battery... and for future reference... if there is no clicking= really dead battery and it might not recharge. In that case check the alternator, if the alternator is still good, just buy a new battery. If the battery continues to fail to recharge get a new alternator.
