Why do you need a bath? Same reason as why your dog needs grooming. Grooming your dog with daily brushing will keep the shedding of the hair down and give your pet a healthy looking coat. A bath also helps too once in awhile, be sure to use a shampoo made for dogs only, not a human shampoo as it is too harsh and will strip out the oils of the dog's coat. If you have a long hair dog, then daily brushing will keep the coat from matting. You do not want any mats on your dog. You also need to clip their nails once every 3 weeks or so too. Be sure to use a once a month flea prevention on your dog too, fleas can cause skin infections and infect them with tapeworms.

It depends on the puppy, on the bone and on how closely the puppy will be supervised. The general advice has been to never give any bone to any dog because it can cause intestinal lacerations, choke and other potentially fatal digestive problems. However, if you have a large breed puppy, give it an uncooked bone (which means it isn't as likely to shatter) and watch it carefully, the bone shouldn't cause any problems to the puppy. However, to be safe, you should probably look for bone-type chew toys.

Dogs respond well to many human medications. However -- toxicity is a function of dosage! You can easily overdose a dog on what would me a low dosage for a human. This applies to ALL medications in all species. The majority of canine deaths from Ibuprofen, Aspirin, etc. are not the medication's lethality per se, but the amount given the animal, either in a loading dose or over time. That said, the following human meds may be administered to dogs by a Vet who will determine dosage for you: * Ibupren (careful here -- EASY to overdose). * Aspirin * Benydryl * Ampicillin * Amoxycillin * prednisone * D5W And others... However, I can't emphasize enough the care you have to take in correct dosing. Once more, get the Vet to tell you safe dosages BEFORE administering. Note that this is not true for cats.

There is no reason you can't. Most good breeders will send a purebred puppy home already in it's traditional breed clip. Breeders start getting their pups used to clipping at only a few weeks old. the younger you start, the more comfortable the puppy will be with grooming and handling.

If you mean it smells high in chlorine, it means the chlorine is combined. Combined chlorine is attached to the things it's meant to kill, such as urine, bacteria or body oils, etc. Free chlorine is chlorine ready to do it's job and doesn't smell heavy of chlorine. A public pool that smells heavy of chlorine is nastier than one that doesn't.

I have a 6 year old black pug. To wash her, I first rinse her in the bathtub with lukewarm water. Then I use Johnson's gentle baby shampoo, which I then massage all over her body (excluding the face). Then I rinse her again, making sure to cover my hand with her face, because pugs have sensitive faces. Sometimes I repeat this process if she is very dirty. Finally I take a wet washcloth and clean her face, getting in between wrinkles and such. To dry, I use a towel, or sometimes a hair dryer, making sure to press COOL instead of hot.

Hard to say without knowing the size of the bumps, where they are, what they look like, etc. I would expect a skin condition. It could be as simple as an allergy. I'd be more concerned if the number or size of the bumps is increasing. Also, of these turn out to be open sores. Talk to your vet -- and ask about prednizone.

I was wondering the same thing and I have been doing some research and I think that once a month is good! Monty my Springer sometimes gets a bit of a "Doggy" smell to him and thats when i wash him. If you wash them too often you wash the oils out of their skin and it makes their coat dull and not healthy looking.
