Flats and Tire Pressure

It should tell you on the tire. Its not specific for the car. I have lo pro tires and after market rims on mine and the tire pressure is supposed to be 5000 pounds. But then again Im too lazy to stop and put air in my tires all the time so my tire light is always on.

That answer is entirely wrong. The number on the tire is exactly what it says "maximum" PSI. Every vehicle has a manufacturer recommended tire pressure and that is what should be used. My 2005 Elantra has it printed in the owner's manual (30 PSI front & back & 50 for spare tire). OEM tires said 42 max. so it's quite different. As long as you replace the tires with the same size (not necessarily same kind) it will be the same. It is normally in the manual or inside the door jam or inside the glove compartment.

There's no single answer. If you check the inside of the glove compartment, there should be a sticker on the right that tells you the recommended pressure for the factory tires. On my 1994 Honda Civic LX it says 29 PSI on all four tires and then tells me to consult the manual for more details. There aren't any.

But when I called Tires Plus to ask for the pressure, they said 32 PSI. That may be what's right for their tire. Or they may be recommending a higher pressure that will improve gas mileage but give a slightly bumpier ride.

Bottom line, you're probably safe with anywhere from 29 to 32 PSI.

This information is usually on a yellow sticker in the doorjamb on the driver side (and it is also contained in the owner's manual). It might call for different pressure levels for the back tires and the front tires.

That depends on how much air is in your tire. I'd reccommend going to a store and buying a Tire Pressure Guage and measuring it yourself instead of asking a complete stranger online...

It is extremely dangerous to drive on a tire which has been damaged by being driven on when it was flat, if this is what you mean by "run flat damage."

If you are present to look at the inside of a tire which has been driven even a relatively short distance without any air in it, you will see that it will have a quantity of black powder in it when it is removed from the wheel.

You might ask where did that powder come from, since it wasn't there when the tire was put on.

Well, that black powder is actually ground up and baked rubber that has come off of the inside of the tire while it was being driven without air pressure. You see, without pressure a tire flexes tremendously as it rolls and this produces heat. The heat weakens the rubber, and as it gets hotter, it bakes it, too.

So if there is any black powder inside the tire ... you are looking at part of the tire which won't be there if you fix the hole and use it again. You are just begging to have a blow-out or tire failure at some critical moment if you use a tire with this kind of damage.

All that being said, if you have a tire that simply went flat when the tire was parked, you take it off and patch the air leak, and there wasn't any other damage to the tire, chances are that it might be safe to use it.

U can get a flat tire any where at any time.

It normally happens when u are still driving. Then after u stop, the air gets out and becomes very flat. The causes of flat tires are from nails, sharp rocks or glass that has been spilt on the road.

maybe the rubber in the tire expands more than the gas in the tire...but I don't really know.

a) When someone steps on the back of another person's shoe so that their heel pops out, they have given that person a "flat tire."

Or b) A saggy butt is a "flat tire."

As you drive, the flexing of the tire heats up the tire and the air in the tire. Air behaves (somewhat) like an ideal gas, meaning that the temperature will go up proportionately to the temperature rise (measured in Kelvin which can be determined by adding 273 to the degrees C - do a web search on "ideal gas law" for more information). Moisture in the air can have an added effect as well.

Because it's sensing incorrect pressure. To do this properly don't rely on the built in system - buy g good quality round tire gauge and check all your tires at least once a week. -It only takes minutes, but may save your life.
