The 1996 Ford Contour owners manual shows : Use only power steering fluid that meets Ford specification ESW - M2C33 - F or is an equivalent type F automatic transmission fluid with a Ford registration number ( an 8 digit number beginning with " 2P " printed on the fluid container )

According to the 1998 Ford Contour Owner Guide it came with ( green color

antifreeze ) meeting Ford specification ( ESE-M97B44-A )

1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6 ( according to autozone . com )

The Coil Pack Towers are numbered :

coil---3---4

pack--2---6

plug---1---5

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

1-----2-----3

What engine do you have? If people would give the simple, basic information to be necessary to be able to properly answer questions like this, it would make it a lot easier!

At any rate, on any car, you can find the alternator by following the smaller secondary cable from the battery to the back of the alternator. If you don't have enough know-how to follow this simple process, then take the car to a shop and let a professional do the work.

The AIS (automatic idle speed) valve may be sticky.

A small amount of carb cleaner in the bypass passage,followed by some non silicon oil may make it work properly.

The Idle passage is the pencil sized hole above the throttle body plate.SK

The 1996 Ford Contour door panel is held in place with 10 retaining clips. Pry outward on each retaining clip to remove the door panel.

Shouldn't be more than 20 bucks

It is mounted to the top of the fuel tank. To properly remove the fuel pump you have to drop the tank. You can also remove the fuel pump through the access hole under the back seat. Depending on the style of fuel pump you may need to make the hole bigger by cutting it.

IT is not getting one or more of the following: spark, fuel or compression. Assuming it cranks. If it doesn't crank, it is probably an electrical problem such as starter, battery or alternater.

I just had mine fixed. I asked the mechanic where it was and he said behind the exhaust and the #4 cylinder. I don't know anything about cars but he showed me a hose that had collapsed because I needed to change the pcv valve. He said that is hard on an engine and he said I would get better gas mileage and oil useage because of changing it.

According to Gates ( they make timing belts etc. ) the 2.0 L - DOHC - 4 cylinder

engine in a 1997 Ford Contour is NOT an interference engine - so the answer would

be NO

The o2 sensors should be located on the exhaust pipe 1 directly under the front of the motor the other is under the back. The back one is right by the y in the pipe.

I don't know if your 1995 is the same , but according to the ( 1996 ) Ford

Contour owners manual :

With engine oil filter change :

The 2.0 liter four cylinder engine takes ( 4.5 U.S. quarts / 4.3 liters of engine oil )

To replace the fuel door in the Contour- take out the bold that holds on the fuel cap. Go under the car and follow the black thick tube from the gas tank up to twhere the fuel door is located. This tube is about one inch thick. You need to reach up in the rear panel and pull off the hose. This is some sort of ventalation hose. After disconecting that hose, you need to take off the gas cap, I recomment putting clean rag in the gas pipe. Then turn the entire assembly counter clock wise. You may need to really push hard to get the door and housing to turn. Once it turns about an inch, then work the door and housing out, (start pulling on the back side first, then work toward the front of the car. It is a tight fit. Once that is out, just do the reverse for the new door to finish the install. Takes about 10 minutes. Good Luck.

HI,I A FEW CODES WHEN I WENT TO THE EMISSION TEST.P0402,P0420,P0430.AFTER I CHANGED THE EGR VALVE ALL OF THEM ARE GONE NOW. I JUST CHANGED MY EGR VALVE ON A 99'FORD CONTOUR V6.IT WASN'T EASY ,IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE EGR IN ABOUT 1 HOUR.BUT HERE IS THE TRICKY PART.THE EGR VALVE IS LOCATED TO NEAR TO THE FIREWALL,BUT THERE IS NO ROOM TO MOVE YOUR TOOLS. TRY TO PULL SOME PARTS FIRST OUT TO GET SOME ROOM THERE,THAT DID WORK.(DONT FORGET TO PUT IT BACK ON)IT WASNT EASY TO REMOVE IT,BUT I AM NOT A MECHANIC ,IF I DID IT YOU CAN DO IT.IF YOU WOULD LIKE HAVE MORE INFOS ABOUT THIS TOPIC JUST EMAIL ME ,I LL SEND YOU STEP BY STEP WHAT TO DO WITH PICTURES.I DONT HAVE A WEB PAGE THATS WHY I COULDNT PUT ALL THE INFOS AND PICS ON A PAGE.

Hello I know every vehicle is different, my contour is a 95 model is what you had posted the same for all year contours or is the egr valve located in a different spot? Also when I do replace the valve will I need to reprogram the computer?

Check engine light should have an Error code,ask mechanic to read it for you. then he will be able to expalin to you what is the reasona nd the solution for this.

A saddle mount alternator has a base mount. It almost appears as if the alternator is sitting on the mount....usually with two bolts. A side mount alternator has an ear molded into the body of the alternator and is held in place with one bolt.

The 2.5 liter V6 engine takes ( 5.5 liters / 5.8 U.S. quarts of 5W-30 )

You can get the information you are looking for from Chilton, Aldata, and Ford. There are others, but these are best.

Yes, it can, but it won't be running properly. Modern engines are tightly controlled by the computer that governs fuel flow. To do this, it senses a number of different things, and among them is the coolant temperature. If the temperature of the coolant is not being properly controlled by a thermostat, the computer will get readings that will cause it to deliver an incorrect fuel-air mixture to the engine, causing poor fuel mileage, excessive emissions, and poor overall operation. I strongly recommend that, if you are having cooling system problems, that you take your car to a good shop to have it diagnosed and properly repaired.

Bank 1 is cylinders 1,2 and 3. These are the cylinders closest to the fire wall. FYI cylinder 1 is closest to the timing chain/power steering pump side of the motor(opposite from the transmission side. For the uninformed, cylinder 1 is at the back of the engine bay farthest from the battery.
