How do you change the transmission fluid in a 1997 Ford Contour?
Well I'm not very experienced at this but according to the manual I read, if you have an automatic transmission you don't need to change the transmission filter because you would have to take appart the entire transmission.
All you need to do is drain the transmission fluid into a drain pan like you would when chaning your oil. The transmission fluid drain plug is found under the driver side of the engine and is a female, square bolt you will need to remove.
Once the fluid has drained, you will need to put the plug back in place and firmly put the bolt/plug back in place. (use about 20 lbs of pressure on it)
Then you can add the new transmission fluid throgh the filler tube. You will need a long thin spouted funnel to be able to get the fluid to the right location. I am not sure but I think you can add the fluid right where the dip stick is located.
Your owners manual will specify what type of fluid to buy and what your transaxle capacity for fluid is in the back index section of the Owner's Guide.

Possibly a bad headlight switch or connector. I just had a `93 Sable that the headlights would turn off when the right indicator was selected, and come back on as soon as it turned off. The signal/wiper switch was in rough shape (washers didn't work and wipers only worked on high) so I changed it out. headlights still shut off on right turn signal. On the four cyclindar it is located on the left of the engine. It is located behind one of the opulley on the alternator belt. The pulley should be smooth and have no teeth. If you need more help I would suggest getting the Hayes book.

its a real pain, first drain the cooling system remove the grille,headlights,core support,radiator,AC condensor,all belts and assemblies.you'll need a 3 jaw harmonic balencer puller to get the HB off. then remove the timing belt plate. mark where the belt is located on the sprokets. take the belt off by loosing the tensioner pully. then unbolt the water pump and replace it. its a good idea to replace the timing belt to while your at it.when that's done put it all back together. good luck!!!

It between the exhaust manifold and engine block you have to remove the heat sheild which is in the front of the engine compartment if you look from the right side your left of the manifold you will see a pipe a 2 in peice of hose that is connected to it and the pcv valve it just sits in there back the hose to the your right down the pipe dont bend pipe and you should be abe to pull it out of engine block

The VSS is on the backside of the trans, pretty much directly above the driverside axle.
It has a wire connector and a 'yoke' type clamp holding it down.
- Remove the small 10mm bolt holding the clamp down
- Disconnect the wire connector
- Using the flat-sides at the base of the VSS, gently twist the VSS while pulling upwards to remove
You may find a better angle of access by taking the driverside wheel off and coming in through the wheel-well.
