It's on top of the tranny with a few wires running into it.

I'm not 100% sure if this is the same on the '89, but I know where it is on my '91. It should be inside the passenger compartment on the passenger side next to the center console. It should be just to the left of where the passenger puts their feet, but all the way up against the fire wall. Just a note: these relays don't usually go bad- Mine had a short on the fuel pump sending unit right where the wires came up through the plastic grommets on the top of the sending unit. If you check your hot lead on your fuel pump to see if you get continuity with the ground, or the body of the sending unit, you've found your problem. This is rather common. You can either get a new sending unit ($$$$), or creatively run new wires through the top of the sending unit. Good Luck!

On the underside of the hood near the front there is a diagram of your vacuum hoses and where they go.

I have a 1994 5.7 k1500, and my book says for V8 5.7 1988-1995 is TDC. (top dead center)

It should be inside the transmission located in the valve body. In the Ford ZX2, which is a two door version-somewhat similar but not exactly the same, you remove the transmission pan, take out the transmission filter and there is the valve body. You remove the valve body and there should be 4-5 solenoids in it. I would replace them all while you have it out. In the Zx2, this can be done without removing the transmission from the car, im not certain about the sedan.

Make certain beforehand that this is your problem, as the solenoids arent cheap. They are around $200 for the complete set and are kind of hard to find. Your local auto parts store probably wont carry them, the dealership only sells them as part of the entire valve body and this costs like around $1000. You probably will have to order them online or try to find a shop in your area that specializes in selling transmission parts which is what i had to do.

Before you do anything try to check a item called the transmission computer or Transmission Control Module or Powertrain Control module. All the same thing i believe, just with different names for the same part. This might be the problem.

The speed sensor is on top of the transmission. Take the intake housing and battery tray out to get to it. It is held in place with a 10 mm bolt. It has a couple of wires going into it.

SM rated 5W-30 weight of oil.

The blower motor fuse is in the passenger compartment fuse panel underneath the dash on the driver's side. The blower motor fuse is a 30 amp fuse marked BLOWER.

If your engine is the 2.0 SPI follow the steps:

1. Tighten 30 to 44 ft./lbs.

2. Loosen 1/2 turn.

3. Torque 30 to 44 ft./lbs.

4. Tighten 1/4 turn from step 3.

5. Tighten 1/4 turn from step 4.

If your engine is the zetec 2.0 DOHC follow the steps.

1. Torque 15 to 25 ft/lbs.

2. Torque 35 to 45 ft/lbs.

3. Tighten an additional 105 degrees.

If your engine is the 1.9 liter SOHC

1. Torque 30 to 44 ft/lbs.

2. Loosen 2 turns.

3. Torque to 44 ft/lbs.

4. Tighten 1/4 turn from step 3.

5. Tighten 1/4 turn from step 4.

The sensor that turns it on is on the water outlet. This sensor sends information to the Power Control Module (PCM) and it in turn sends a signal to the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM) under the intake housing which turns on the cooling fan on high or low depending on if the A/C is on.

In the US, you can sue anybody for anything you want. You'll probably lose, but you can do it.

With engine oil filter change :

The 2.0 liter SOHC engine in the sedan and wagon take ( 3.8 L / 4.0 U.S. quarts )

The 2.0 , DOHC engine in the ZX2 takes ( 4.25 L / 4.5 quarts )

I was looking at the 1999 Ford Escort scheduled maintenance guide and the

Gates website ( they make timing belts etc . ) and both show to inspect the

timing belt at 120,000 miles , replace if necessary ( that applies to both the 2.0

liter SOHC and DOHC engines )

There is a class action law suit pending against the dexcool, orange antifreeze. If air enters the system it will cause it to congeal.

The fuel pump is situated in the fuel tank so this has to be removed.

There are two fuse panels, or power distribution boxes. The engine compartment power distribution box is located on the left hand side of the engine compartment above the wheel well, and the central (inside) power distribution box is located under the LH side of the dash, left of the steering column.

You can find it by locating the big hose that goes into the top of the radiator. The thermostat is inside a housing on the engine side of the big hose. Take the hose loose. Take the 2 bolts out and the thermostat is inside this rounded housing. Make sure you point the spring on the new thermostat towards the engine or it won't work properly.

there are 2 license plate bulbs-look up above license plate,see 2 lens covers.remove with Philips screwdriver and pull bulbs out of sockets.i just did it t'nite but the lites still don't work.may be short or broken wire-perhaps where wires go thru liftgate opening...haven't checked yet. look for simple solution...bulbs 1st!

If you've already checked all of the bulbs and the fuses (to include the maxi-fuses under the hood), it might be your multifunction switch. I had the same problem, and had to take my Jeep to a pro to diagnose it.

They should only turn one way--if you try to turn the wrong way you will be stopped by the auto adjuster

Originally might have had R-12 (depending on date of mfg.) should be converted to R-134A you do have R12 refrigerant unless it has already been retrofitted to R134 and then it should be indicated by the person who retrofitted the car. look for a sticker saying R134

In a standard Ford factory set-up the Escort has an 8 wire / 4 speaker system. Front - Left - White Wire / Front Right Gray / Left Rear - Green / Right Rear - Purple.
