Will oxygen sensor stop your 99 ford escort from running right?

Yes, it measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust as compared to the oxygen in the atmosphere. A faulty 02 sensor will make the engine run rich and eventually ruin the catalytic converter not to mention bad gas mileage.

How can you tell if thermostat on 95 ford escort bad?

If the engine is taking a long time to warm up or the gauge registers low heat the thermostat probably is stuck open and needs to be replaced.

If the engine runs hot check the temperature of the upper radiator hose. If it's not hot the thermostat is stuck closed and should be replaced. If the upper hose is hot it means the thermostat is open and working. Cooling problem could be restricted radiator.

How would you find the cooling fan relay on a '93 Ford Escort wagon or does it have a heat sensor switch?

I have a 94 mercury tracer. Probably same engine. The relay may be in the fuse compartment under the hood. Your local ford dealer can test the relay for you. I wish I knew where the temp sensor switch was cause I have a problem with the cooling fan myself.

the temperature switch for the fan may be at the other end of the lower radiator hose....

The fan switch is on the heater hose right under the coil pack and right by the upper hose. Also, the sending unit for the gauge is there. The relay for the fan is under the fuse box; remove it and you will find two relays. The one that is listed on the box is a secondary relay .

99% of the time it's the fan switch located in the hose under the coil pack, I work on a fleet of escorts and it's always that switch that fails.

In my 1993 Escort wagon, 1.9 l, the fan relays are located under the air intake filter. Unfasten the filter clips, unplug the Mass Airflow Sensor, remove the filter box, (2 nuts + one bolt). The relays, are mounted together on one bracket bolted to the fender.

The cooling fan switch is located to the right of the thermostat housing. Easily reached by removing the air intake hose. Ford no longer carries this part.

I located all these parts at NAPA auto parts no doubt they are also available at other after-market dealers.

How do you adjust clutch on 1995 Mazda Protege LX which has to be pushed all the way in and shifted carefully and hydraulic cylinder cannot be located under hood for adding fluid?

your brake master cylinder serves as your slave cylinder resevior. If either your master or slave clutch cylinders are going bad, it may not do any good to try to adjust them. But the slave cylinder has a bleeder screw and the process of bleeding the clutch is similar to bleeding the brakes. In short, open the bleeder screw when clutch is being pressed, and close it when clutch is fully pressed. Have a tube on the bleeder screw going into a jar of brake fluid so you can see bubbles coming out of the slave. The slave is mounted on the bottom of the transmission and the master clutch cylinder is on the firewall behind and below the battery, it has a tube that goes to the lower right rear of the master brake cylinder reservoir to get it's fluid supply.

How do you adjust headlights on a 1997 Ford Escort?

Answer

There are two brass colored posts sticking out of the back of the headlight assembly. One on each side of where the headlight bulb holder is. Use a 4mm wrench to turn the posts. If you can't get a wrench on them, they sell a Ford headlight adjusting tool. These are made for Ford aerodynamic headlights with rear mounted adjusters.

1. Park your car on level ground with the headlights about 10 to 15 feet from a wall or garage door.

2. Each headlight has 2 studs you can adjust, Left/Right and Up/Down. The stud closer to the inner parking lights or inner highbeams (depending on year) adjusts your Left/Right. The studs closer to the outer corner signal lights adjust the Up/Down.

Some cars come equipped with a small level (like a carpenter's level) attached to the top of the headlight under the hood to help you get the correct adjustment.

3. Turn the headlights on. ;-) For safety, all adjusting done with engine off.

4. Notice where the light shines, using the wall or garage door as your gauge. Check for uneven or cross-eyed light beams.

5. Turn the adjusting studs while looking at the wall. Turn slowly and continue to check the wall until the light beams are even and tilted slightly downward (so your car's headlights won't blind oncoming traffic).

6. Test-drive in the dark and tweak adjustments if necessary.

How do you replace the rack and pinion on a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 the steering wheel wobbles?

I just did this and its not difficult if you can get the car up on a lift. If you'll be on your back in your garage it becomes a much more difficult job. Raise the vehicle the best you can and block the rear wheels and place jack stands firmly under the car. Remove both front wheels and unbolt your steering tie rod ends. Pop them out of the knuckle. Remove the cross member. On MTX cars you will want to disconnect the shift linkage. disconnect the steering shaft inside the car at the floor board. Remove the pressure and return line on the steering gear. There are two bols that connect the rack on the drivers side of the steering gear and two more on the passenger side. Now the fun starts, you'll want to get another set of eyes and hands. Wiggle the assembly out the passenger side wheel well. It will go but it will need the extra helper to clear everything. Install is the reverse. Look closely at your pressure line because now is the time to replace it if its rusty or damaged. I paid $35.00 for a complete rack Tie Rod to Tie Rod (used of course). I believe $130 new at AutoZone. Are you sure the rack and pinion need to be replaced or could it be the outer tie rod ends which are more likely to wear out?

How do you take off the the steering wheel from an 83 Chevrolet Pick-up?

Pull the center horn mechanism, remove the single large nut in the center, connect a steering wheel puller to the 3 (sometimes 2) threaded holes around the center of the steering wheel splined hub and use the puller to loosen the wheel. It won't come off without a puller. Don't even bother to try.

Where is the flasher relay on a 1993 Ford Escort?

On many Escorts the flasher relay/hazard relay/emergency relay - or whatever else you want to call it - is located behind the dashboard - upper left side when sitting in drivers seat. Many dealerships can't even find them. Most relays include the turn signal relay built into them also, though they usually work somewhat independently. Best way to find the flasher/hazard/emergency relay, assuming your directional signals are working, is to turn on either directional - left or right - and listen for the distinctive clicking sound you usually hear when you use your blinkers. Make sure the ignion key/switch is in the on position. Listen careully to where the sound comes from, that's where your relay, both the flasher and directional relays usually are. To get at them to replace either usually means having to remove the instrument/gauge cluster, the entire dashboard including the radio and heater/ventallaion/AC controls. If this isn't bad enough it often requires removing a center console and lowering the steering column, depending on the year and exact model. As this is pretty labor intensive and requires a fair amount of mechanical ability you may want a helper especially to help lift the dashboard out. Make sure to disconnect the negative battery cable bafore attempting this job. The easiest thing to do is either sell or junk the car. Or just shoot yourself - you'll want to before you are even halfway through this job!

To replace the clutch on a 2000 4.6L Ford F150 do you need to drop the engine?

No, you do not have to remove or drop your engine. On some models you have to allow a little extra access on the top side of your trans. for bell housing bolts. If you dont have enough clearance you just have to remove your drive axles if it is 4 wheel drive, and remove linkages, wire connections, slave cylinder, and cross member and allow trans to drop down a little bit while attached to engine to access top bell bolts then drop out whole transmission. Then you do everyhing on the ground. Clutch and flywheel !

Why does your rm80 keep blowing head gaskiets?

Couple of reasons come to mind. One is that the head itself is warped and it needs to be taken off and skimmed at a shop to get it flat.

Second thing is that it needs to have all the bolts re-torqued to the proper specs after riding a houndred miles or so, after they have become bedded in.
