i have the 1.3 version and i can honistly say is a really good engine,they pull harder at low revs than zetec and if the zetec has had the wrong oil in it then it can get expensive with sticking valves and cam wear.also 1.3 push rod engines dont have cam belt but have a chain so u dnt have the expense of changing this.its up to you wot ud prefer but id go 1.3 for easy maintainence at low costs. only real fauts are,,wishbones,,,bearing,,valve giuds

AnswerI have had this exact problem last week, If you find that your tyre pressures are correct or after adjusting them to the correct pressure your steering is still stiff, I suggest you get it to a garge as soon as possible, The problem may be with the steerign rack, if this is the case, then it will be the universal joint (UJ) that has collapsed, in which case they will need to replace the Uuiversal joint and the steering rack for you. This is the problem I had. It costs about �100 then you add V.A.T at 17.5% so look at �117.50 to have this replaced, the price may vary slightly from garage to garage but its in that price band, and shouldn't cost much more than that.
An easy way of detemining whether it could be the UJ collapsed is, what happens, when you say your steerig ggoes stiff. if you find that you are driving along and the wheel is so stiff it feels as though it may lock on you or its very difficult to turn then it is that the universal joint has collasped. If this is the case do not drive around in the car as its unsafe and you could have an accident, book it into the garage and get it sorted.Also check drive belt has not snapped or is slipping as this drives power steering pump.

most likely it is the vent that controls the air flow between hot and cold. this vent has a little open/close flap that either lets cool air in when you turn on the air conditioner or lets hot air in when you turn on the heat. sometimes the motor that controls it starts to go bad and the thing will click (either constantly) or irregularly. eventually it will stick shut either on the hot side or the cool side. I've had two Ford Explorers and they both had this happen, my old one, a 97, stuck on heat I couldn't ever get the air to work again and when I did turn on the heat, since it can't regulate itself anymore it became an inferno. The one I have now, an 02, is still in the clicking stage. To fix it they have to take the dashboard out and it can be pretty pricy.

The mechanism is very similar on older Ford models of: Escort, Fiesta, Sierra, Granada & Transit. Newer vehicles may have a Hydraulic Clutch from 1997/9 onwards, and these work differently from the cable & pully mechanism. Clutch-fluid can be bled to improve the ability to operate the clutch, however this is not necessarily a method of adjusting the clutch.

2. SHORTEN THE CABLE.
- Disconnect SPRING ON THE FOOT-PEDAL to release ratchet mechanism.
