Upon the arrival of the British in India, they immediately set the indigenous population of farmers to work. Much of the land dedicated to growing the aforementioned staple food sources were converted to cash crops (Webber, 1/6). These cash crops were primarily comprised of jute (a fiber partway between a textile and a wood), oilseeds, and cotton (Satya,11). This produce change resulted in insufficient supplies of food available for the Indian people, despite the fact that, "the proportion of those dependent on agriculture grew to over 70%," (Satya, 4).

More negative impact of British on farming

Despite the injustices forced upon the citizens of India, the British occupation was not without its benefits. The first and foremost within the scope of my essay was the addition of railroads to India. These railroads allowed farmers' crops to reach farther and provided them with an insatiable market for their yearly reaping. Regrettably for those farmers, the railway system was set by and, through ownership, for the British as well. These railways predominantly, "favored shipment to the ports rather than encouraging internal trade. Similarly, it favored raw material export and finished good imports" (Satya, 6).

Another major benefit to food production in India thanks to the British was modern farming techniques and instruments. As an Indian-government-affiliated site described it, "In order to overcome the problem Government of India has introduced a 'Natural Disaster Management Programme'" (AgroWAN, Drought) based on what they have learned from their exposure to the British and other more technologically advanced nations. According to the Indian Department of Agriculture's most recent information availible, in the last fifty years the yield of rice per hectare more than tripled. (IDOC Statistics, 4.6) Unfortunately, no data is available before 1950, but we can assume that around the time the British entered India which had almost no modern farming paraphernalia, their introduction must have been of enormous benefit.

Despite the increase in food production, it is unlikely that this able to overcome the drawbacks of British occupation in India on farming. This would primarily be because of the use of the guarantee system. The guarantee system promised shareholders of the East India Company that, "If the company performed poorly, the taxpayers of India would pay for the loss." (Satya, 2). This essentially meant that the British investors would get returns on their investment, regardless of who has to pay to make it happen. Furthermore, since a bad year for the Company was also likely to be at least partially caused by a bad year for farmers, they would be taxed more heavily in years where they have a reduced amount of food or resources to spare.

In essence, the positive effects for farming of the British inhabitation of India do little to overcome the negative accompaniments to each one.

When someone that is cruel can't think of anything else to say they will generally pick on the looks of the individual by calling them ugly, fat, etc. Ignore them! Realize that there is no such thing as ugly and all of us can't be born a number 10 in today's society, but all of us have some wonderful features and personality is the #1 factor when we reach adulthood. No matter how pretty or handsome a person is if they don't have a good personality they have nothing! If they are in your face simply say, "I've found that when a person hasn't got anything intelligent to say they reduce themselves to name-calling or swearing and you fit into that category perfectly!" One of the most important things you can do for yourself - in general - is build your self-confidence. As long as you can feel good about yourself, the shallow comments of other people shouldn't bring you down. Stay away from people who offer only superficial criticism (as opposed to constructive comments); your friends should always be supportive. 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.'

I know how it feels to be called "ugly" and sometimes it hurts I don't care any longer what they say. What I am learning though is that you shouldn't care what people say because it does not matter. At the end of the day all of us in this world are beautiful and please don't let people bring you done with comments like those. Just always remember that everyone is beautiful in there own way and and those people that feel the need to call someone ugly need to look within their own soul. Beauty is skin deep; ugliness festers in the soul!

Have you heard this that 'what comes around goes around' so if they say you are ugly they are ugly as well. Remember everyone in this world is pretty or handsome. Besides its not what is on the outside that matters its inside and inside is the personality. If you have personality then you have the world. If they call you ugly pretend not to care and say whatever with an attitude, then maybe they will stop bothering you.

I am beautiful in every single way words won't bring me down... so don't bring me down today." At least once in your life you will be called ugly. Everyone gets called it. But the point is that you can't let what they say bring you down. That's what Christina is saying... Don't let others get inside of your brain. They only tell you this because they are most likely jealous of something... everyone is beautiful in their very special way.... don't let anyone get away with telling you this... just remember to work what your mama gave you! BECAUSE YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND WORDS WILL NOT BRING YOU DOWN!♥♥

The pros for having a Family tree (doing some genealogy) is to find out more about your past and to see how your great grandparents lived, what your great grandfather did for a living, etc. You may get lucky and have some pictures of them as well. I just did one up for my husband's sister and she was so thrilled to get it. It took me months to do it. I was able to search for information, but also have an 80 year old aunt that had so many wonderful pictures of past relatives of the family to the present and she told me stories about them which I included in my sister-in-law's album. The cons are that you will probably have loads of skeletons fall out of the family closet. LOL Personally I rather enjoy a little bit about that. I did a genealogy on my family and found out one of my aunts was having an affair (had a daughter by her lover) while her husband who was captain of a vessel went down with his ship. Certainly not funny, but it amazed me the family kept such a juicy piece of news from me! LOL I really dont think there are any disadvantages to a family tree unless you are ashamed of your family. Family history is cool and important to know. Tracing your families roots can tell you alot about how your family was established and where they laid there hats, it can also give you insight into how and why some in the family do the things they do. I agree with the first contributor as far as skeletons in the closet. I always though my maternal grandfather had died soon after my mother was born since no one ever talked about him. Through research for my family roots, I discovered that my grandmother and grandfather divorced shortly after my mother was born and he marrid another woman and had another family with her. Some relatives on my grandfather's side did not even know we existed until three years ago LOL. Also, one disadvantage is having more than one relative with the same name. My grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather had the same name - no JR or SR or otherwise! I always thought my grandfather had emigrated from Germany until I discovered he was born in TX, my great-grandfather was born in Germany and emigrated here as a young man with his father, whose name appears on the list of German immigrants in 1865. Talk about confusion during my quest LOL.

the advantages are vegetables and rice are their basic foods and they are very healthy. The disadvantages are that the food tends to be high in bad carbs, because of the noodles.

Many of the earth's have been cut down by humans, less trees now exist due to human activity (we have cut trees down for use or to make room for our buildings and parks, and protected certain trees from being cut down by protecting them in a wildlife reserve).

Yes, If you cut yourself, you can bleed to death by cutting a major blood vein or capillary, etc. so it is best not to do so. It would be easier and much more healthy to talk to someone (a close friend or councilor) if you want to cut your self due to depression or another reason.
