How do you change the headlight bulb on a Honda Pilot?

Basically, you don't need any tools other than a flashlight if you're changing the bulb in the evening. The instructions from the website also uses a diagram that should help you. I have a 2005 Honda Pilot. So if your Pilot is very recent, the instructions should apply to you too. The instructions are straight-forward:

To remove the bulb:

1) You will need to open the hood

2) Remove the connector from the burnt bulb

3) Remove the rubber cover - it just snaps off

4) Remove the bulb's retaining spring- it swings out but doesn't detach

5) Remove the bulb

To Replace the bulb

Reverse the above steps. When you insert the bulb into the slot, be sure that

the tabs on the bulbs are aligned with the notches in the socket. The bulb has

a metal 'skirt' around it that holds it in place in the socket. The side that has a hole in it should be on the bottom when the bulb is in the socket. Make a mental note of the burnt bulb's position when you remove it so when you replace it with the new bulb it will be seated in the same way.

Good luck!

This answer is way off for the 2006 Pilot. The 2006 pilot has no rubber cover on either the high or low beam headlights nor do the have a retraining spring. The high and low beam are each separate lights, The low beam (which I replaced) is an H11, I cannot speak to what the high beam is (yet). The cost was about $26.00 (cheaper for a pair on Amazon) at the local O'Reilly's auto parts store. Of all the headlights I have replaced this one was the easiest by far.

1. Open the hood.

2. Locate the head light housing, they are fairly large black plastic housing with two round circle areas where the actual headlights are, the low beams have a black connector and are the closest to the fender. The high beams closest to the radiator and have a blue connector.

2. Remove the connector from the burnt bulb (pinch the top of the connector and slide it down. You will notice that the wiring for the bulb runs under the actual headlight housing and is connected to the housing by a clip that easily slides to the right (as you face the vehicle) you may be tempted to remove the clip to gain a little more slack on the wire to the bulb. I recommending leaving it in place, as it took me longer to reconnect that clip to the housing, then it did to drive to the auto parts store and get the bulb!

3. Rotate the bulb about a 1/4 - 1/2 turn upward to unlock the bulb from the housing. Take note when the low beam is locked in place the connector is at a slight angle not straight down.

4. Remove the bulb from the housing.

5. Carefully slide the new bulb in to the housing, be careful not to touch the actual bulb (glass) itself or allow the bulb to come in contact with any grease, oil or dirt that may be around the housing. Twist the bulb downward about a 1/4 - 1/2 turn to lock the bulb in place. The bulb connector will be a slight angle not straight down when locked in placed...do not force the bulb past the slight click you will feel when it is in place. Note: the high beam connector will be straight down when locked in place.

6. Slide the connector on to the new bulb upward until you hear or feel a slight click.

7. I would recommend testing ALL the lights before closing things up, you may also want to check if you have any tail lights out at this time. Nothing worse than driving around with burnt out lights, it's unsafe and just looks tacky. While you are under the hood take a look at the serpentine belt those things do not last forever, check and top off fluids you have access to.

Good luck!

I have a 2008 Pilot and found the second answer most helpful. The only thing I would add is Step 2: I used a flat head screw driver inserted into the slot at the top of the clip to release the wiring clip. I am not mechanically inclined and found replacing the bulb really easy.

Where is the oil drain plug on 2004 Honda Pilot?

Passenger side, by the front wheel.

You will see the oil pan there as the lowest point of your engine. At the rear of the pan (pointing towards the back of vehicle), you will see the drain plug.

The oil filter can easily be seen by getting under the vehicle right under the passenger front door and looking just above the CV axle of the front wheel.

If it's a Honda OEM filter, it will be blue and about the size of a can of soda.

What size wipers are for a Honda Pilot 2003?

The 2003 Honda Pilot takes a 24" drivers side, 21" passenger side and a fairly specialized 14" rear wiper that is difficult to find in the stores. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are currently over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.

Where is the transmission fluid drain plug on a 2005 Honda Pilot LX 4WD?

Sorry, there is not a drain plug. Check local repair shops and have a BG transmission flush done. That way you are getting ALL of the fluid changed.

Yes, there IS a drain plug. I have a 2003 Honda Pilot AWD and do the transmission oil changes myself. Crawl under your Pilot and have a look. The transmission drain plug and engine oil drain plug have labels next to them so you KNOW which is which. Don't listen to people who tell you crap like the answer above. You can also perform your own rear differential oil changes easily. The rear differential and the auto transmission BOTH require oil changes every 15 K miles so it is much cheaper getting the oils from Honda (DO NOT USE ANY OTHER BRAND OF OILS!) and doing it yourself. The rear differential uses VTM-4 oil and is only available from Honda. NEVER SUBSTITUTE FOR HONDA OILS. If in doubt, get the Haynes PILOT repair manual which shows you how to do all this maintenance. Good luck.

What does the warning light exclamation symbol inside a U-shaped on a Honda pilot mean?

The warning light featuring an exclamation mark inside a U-shaped symbol on a Honda Pilot typically indicates a problem with the vehicle's brake system. This could relate to low brake fluid, an issue with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), or a malfunction in the brake system itself. It's important to check the brake fluid level and address any issues promptly, as this warning signifies a potential safety concern. If the light remains on, it's advisable to consult the owner's manual or take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic.

Why my 2003 Honda Pilot won't start after replacing the ignition?

Honda only sells the ignition cylinder lock as a complete assembly which includes: the wiring, lock, security sensor...etc. Therefore the new key that operates the new cylinder must be programmed to let the computer know to shut the security system off. If your vehicle starts for a few seconds then stalls, this is quite possible what needs done. You may get away with putting the old key next to the ignition cylinder and retry the starting procedure. I do not know if the interference of the new key will allow the computer to recognise the older key. Good Luck

What is the fuel economy of a Honda Pilot?

Rrated for 16/22 and I usually get more like 17/24. Last night in fact, I checked my mileage on some highway that I drove 80 + for 4 hours straight and I got 23.57 MPG. Not bad for a full size SUV not to mention that I have 4WD. All this on 87 octane.

How do you Remove the rear window wiper on a 2003-2008 Honda Pilot?

The 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 Honda Pilots have a special 14" rear wiper blade. Just because it appears special, does not mean its hard to change.

The challenge is finding the correct replacement rear wiper blade. You can go to the dealer (which may be expensive). Otherwise, I only know of one aftermarket wiper blade that's designed to snap right onto the special rear arm and look like the factory original: "Trico Exact Fit Rear Integral Blades". They come with full removal and replacement instructions. They are available online.

How do you replace an alternator 2006 Honda Pilot?

There are only two bolts that hold the alternator to the motor. Find the two bolts in the front of the alternator and take those two off. You also have to disconnect the wiring from the top of the alternator (1 just unplug and the other unscrew off some metal piece attached to alternator). The way I pulled it out was by sliding up the steering fluid and stuffing the alternator between that and the motor. I also had to remove the black plastic cover on top of the engine, the one over the block and the one over the coolant cap/hood release so I could have some space. I have not put the alternator back in yet so I cannot help you there as of now.

How do you change the 3rd brake light on a Honda Pilot?

If you look at the middle brake light, you'll notice two (2) notches on the left and right of the light. (This is looking at the brake light from the outside of the car, not the inside of the hatch.) Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the two screw covers off (they are plastic just like the rest of the brake light cover). Unscrew the screws and presto, you find the back to the light...you should be good from this point.

Additional Information:

Applies to: 2003-2008 Model Years only.

The two screw covers (notches mentioned above) are integrated into the brake light itself on each side but can be pried of using just fingers if needed exposing two (8 x 1") Phillips screws that, when backed out allow you to pull out the entire third brake light (CHMSL) assembly out of the roof spoiler. The bulb is a 921 incandescent bulb in a twist-lock socket. Since this bulb is inserted on a severe (almost 90degree) angle, a replacement incandescent or a 921 LED bulb that has a 360 degree pattern would work well, even if it is longer than the standard 921 bulb.

What services are need on 2005 Honda Pilot?

Check your owner's manual. Depending if you drive under the Normal or Severe maintenance schedule, what needs to be serviced at a specific mileage varies.

If you don't have the manual, go to the Honda website, sign up for the Honda Owner Link, and there you'll be able to see the maintenance schedule.

How do you change the cabin air filter in a Honda Pilot?

For 2009 or later Honda Pilot, it is very easy - a 5 minute job - and no tools required. The filters are around $25 from Honda (80292-SHJ-A41) but much cheaper after market.

  1. Empty and open the glovebox.
  2. Press the 2 tabs on the sides.
  3. Swing the glovebox ALL the way towards the floor so the opening behind the glovebox is fully accessible.
  4. Inside the opening is a black tray - around 8" square. Press the 2 "tabs" on each side of tray and pull the tray out.
  5. Put the new filter in with the arrow on the side of the filter facing DOWN towards the floor.
  6. Slide the tray back in.
  7. Close the glovebox.

I changed mine at 19K and it was VERY dirty. I would recommend changing every year - especially if you have allergies.

For 2008 and older - you need to cut the plastic tab and take out screws.

What does service code B6 mean on a 2007 Pilot?

* Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid: Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of mechanical (shear) stress to fluid or frequently fully loaded. This requires differential fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles (12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).

How do you change transmission oil on 2004 Honda Pilot?

Easy, look under front end of the pilot and then look to the right side front of the transmission. It is a drain plug that colored blue. It is easy to see and when you find it. Use a normal richet , I think a 3/8 to take it off. The richet itself will fit in the slot. I fill it from the dip stick near the battery.
