check fuse for fuel pump and ignition, also make sure your immobilizer is ok,,,,sometimes they hook them up to the coil,,,,which means,,,no spark

The reverse light sensor switch on the gearbox needs replacing. The switch is normally located on top of the gearbox & around the middle of underneath the air intake box.

There is an OBD I plug somewhere on the vehicle.

I have a 1995 Excel, found mine at the back of the stereo. Yeah i know...strangest place to put it but that's where it is. Should be a 4 digit code

I don't know if this will help but I had to find the stereo code for a ford once and ended up having to ring head office with the vin number of the car to get it. That is assuming of course that the stereo is factory installed. Otherwise check anything that was in the car when you bought it as someone could have written it on a manual or such. Hope it helps.

Check your battery... The A/C Compressor is probably bad. I had the same problem and when you turn on the ac it engages a clutch that is driven by your fan belt and if the compressor is bad it will stop the belt from turning and stall the engine. The same thing will happen for a bad alternator.

Around 800$ for labour, an engine would cost around 250$-450$ complete plus parts oils and coolant needed. all Australian dollars very rough idea but .

this is the year 2004 technology is high great debate has risen chances are great that the valvolive filter you have is not the highest quality a good filter is cheap insurance especially when you consider the cost to replace an engine upwards of 1/2 of original new car price. wix and napa gold are two favorites. MDofPerth: The Valvoline VO5 Oil Filter is suitable for most Hyundai Excels (and some other models such as Sonata) in the 1990s. There is a plastic service cover that partially hides the oil filter from access. Jackin gup the front right corner of the car and removing the three most visible bolts from that cover (then tilting the cover down) makes access to and draining of the old filter easier than reaching round the back. Don't forget to pre-fill the new filter with clean oil, and lubricate the rubber seal, before screwing the new filter into position (hand tight).

The Starter motor on a fuel injection Hyundai Pony/Excel is located below the inlet manifold coming from the injection system. It is difficult to access and the only way to get there is by removing the actual inlet manifold.

The oil filter is on the side of the engine closest to the front of the car. there is a hole on the front skid plate to reach the filter through.

for starters....is it manual or automatic,,,,big difference......on a manual,,,you have to get under the car to to the gearbox,,,,,then find the gearbox plug bolt,,,then fill the gearbox to that level....automatic is very different

hi i had the same problem in my 2000 model excel it turned out to be the throttle sensor i was told they go in these cars all the time i did the crank angle sensor as well

yeh i had same thing also it was actually running it on premium fuel that caused it to surge

according specs Hyundai it will be dot 3.

Take it to a mechanic

Don't know if this will help but the main fuse cluster for the car is inside the car on the left hand side of the car under the dash. My manual does not identify the interior dome light fuse, however the door of the fuse compartment should help some what. Look at fuse #5 courtesy lamps.

Undo the drain bolt on the bottom of the gear box, but undo the filler first so it flows easier. 24mm bolt i think.....

crankshaft sensor on your excel (presuming it is a DOHC model) is at the front of the engine. there is a small connector you'll see next to the exhaust heat shield, follow the wire from the connector down the block a little bit and that is the crank angle sensor (not to be confused with camshaft angle sensor which is located on top of the engine just behind the coil pack and next to the rocker cover).

I installed a CD/mp3 player in a 1996 excel last week. I hope the models are the same. 1. Remove the Ash tray at the bottom of the centre dash and remove the two screws behind it. 2. Open the glovebox and empty it. Then remove the 'plastic/rubber stops' on each side. The glovebox should now flip down so it hangs upside down. 3. In the glovebox cavity you will see a cable (fresh air/recirculated air selector). Undo it. 4. On the driver's side there are two more cables (heater/cool selector and vent selector) you need to undo. You need to be a bit of a contortionist to get to these. 5. The only thing holding the centre dash in now is four clips around the top that will pop off. So pull or lever the centre dash out carefully. The clips will fall down inside the dash when they pop off, find them! 6. As you pull the dash out you will need to feed the glovebox cable through its tiny hole. Don't forget to undo the many electrical plugs that connect to the dash. 7. Now that the centre dash is removed the stereo should be easy to remove and replace. There should be a wiring diagram on the standard radio that makes it really easy to install a new radio. 8. Using the brackets that hold the old radio in fix the new one in place. It is difficult to choose which screw holes to use on the side of the new radio so it may take a few attempts to get the radio sitting forwards or backwards far enough. 9. Put the metal clips that popped off back on the four plastic studs on the back of the centre dash and thread the fresh/recirc selector cable through the hole it came from. Refit the centre dash. Don't forget the many electrical plugs. 10. If the new radio sits too far forwards or backwards go back to step 8. 11. Reconnect the three vent cables, put the glovebox stops back in, replace the two screws in the ashtray cavity and replace the ashtray. 12. Clean off your dusty handprints and enjoy your new tunes :)

i have an excel 1994 and originally it was automatic, but it has a Mitsubishi mirage transmission.

Overdrive is like 5th gear for cruising in most automatic transmissions, the common place for the on and off button is on the gear selector.
