Social Darwinism justified Western imperialism by applying the concept of "survival of the fittest" to human societies. Most European countries colonised various parts of the world at one time or another. Principally Britain; France; Spain & Portugal, they established Empires in Asia, Afirica & the Americas. Virtually all of Africa & South America were dominated by European powers.

British impact on Indian Agriculture
Indian economy was mainly an agrarian economy before colonial period. Agriculture was the main occupation of the people and industries like textile, sugar, oil etc were also depended on it.Before the coming of English, Indian villages were self sufficient and used to practice agriculture and handicraft together. They used to pay portion of produce as land revenue and sell one portion in cities.

British Land Revenue System : The land revenue system of Bengal started by Warner Hastings was based on the principle that all land belong to the crown. He started the system of auctioning of the rights of the land. This deprived old landlords of their lands.

There is a direct correlation because you can't have an Empire unless you have Consolidation of power in the executive branch making the leader of said country an Emperor or Dictator. What is now the US was colonized by several different countries. Great Britain was the primary country. Spain had much of the south east and south west parts. The Dutch first colonized New York and the area there and the French had most of the Mississippi and Great Lakes region. Russia had what is now Alaska.

It became apparent to "jingos" like Teddy Roosevelt that in order to provide new markets for our industrial products and in a better effort to provide for the defense of the nation, we would need coaling stations for our navy and commercial shipping. That could only be achieved through Imperialism.

Also, Social Darwinism was a belief particular to the age. Many felt that it was their Christian duty to civilize the savage peoples and use the natural resources of the lands to their best advantage.

Several Asian nations avoided being colonized by European powers. China and Siam (Thailand), were two of these.

Morale and Social issues aside and granting that all nations attempt imperialism, English empires are more well-off than any other Western nation. Do a caparison of Barbados vs. Haiti or Bahamas vs. Dominican Republic. English settlements turn out to have a better foundation.
