I pay a lot of attention to introductions, and if I don't like it I probably won't like the book. Give your reader a taste of how interesting your book can be, whether it be fiction or non-fiction.

Start out strong. Think of it like....... Fishing! You cast your line in and the bait is what brings in your fish (or in this case, reader). Once the reader is on the "hook" don't let them escape. Your introduction needs to be able to do all of that. It may sound very complicated and perplexing at first, but with practice introductions become very easy.

the remarks most likely should be germane to the event. If it's a dedication, then speak of the rich history of the school and its alumni. Speak of the years the school has served the community, the people it attracts, etc.

If the remarks are related to a party, speak of the pleasure all had in sharing time together, acknowledging that the year they've just finished presented many challenges and the students have excelled beyond all expectation.

If the event is a first-of-year gathering where there may be many new students, stress how important it is to recognise that each student is an individual. No student stands alone, however, as you all share in your individuality. Speak of all the positive things of your school and students, but also state that one thing that all students are responsible for is ensuring that no student is ever ridiculed, ostracised, belittled, or, taunted for their differences, whether it be in attire, sexuality, skin colour, nationality, or financial background.
