OIL LINE? there is no oil line connected to the radiator. There are transmission fluid lines attached to the radiator.... To disconnect these, get some PB Blaster spray, spray liberally around nuts attaching lines to radiator, wait 10 minutes. Get "FLARE NUT WRENCH" of proper size, and loosen and remove. Make sure you have something to catch fluid in underneath where you are working.Good Luck... November 2010 - please note: my 2001 GC Limited has an oil driven cooling fan, instead of traditional 12 volt motor driven fan. The power steering pump's "oil" pressure drives several systems including this fan. Indeed, this "oil" is not conneted to the radiator. I plan to unhook the fan system and tie it back "intact" so I can lift the radiator out today.

Lift the car, remove the tire, remove the brake shoe and caliper, and remove the old brake pad. Dispose of the old brake pad, put in the new brake pad, replace the brake shoe/caliper, replace the tire and lower the car to the ground.

Block and heads are the same, manifolds may be different.

Pull shift lever handle straight up and off the lever.

Use small screw driver to wedge out lever bezel, pull out bulb, remove bezel.

You see there are 2 screws below you have to remove.

remove 2 screws at the bottom of the storage bin.

You may have to pull 4wd shift all the way backwards.

I have a 96 Cherokee and it has about 172,000 miles on it. I've had very few problems with it... next to no repairs in the nearly 10 years that I have owned it. I got it will 60,000 hard towing miles on it and its driven the same ever since I had it. I've had many family members who have owned them ( currently I think there are 7 or 8 in the extened family) and they have all loved them because of the reliablity. From what I have heard you shoud expect to get about 250,000 out of them. The engines are just tough as nails. First remove the Negative terminal from the battery ...then disconnect the wires attached to the starter taking note where you took the wires from....then theres two bolts that hold the starter to the engine block..remove them both....and reinstall your new starter bolting it to the engine first then attaching your wires.. then put the negative cable back on the battery

Yes, but may be cost prohibitive versus new or used from salvage yard. Take vehicle to a Radiator Repair shop. Not too many left. They should be able to repair cracks/holes. Explore finding one from a salvage yard. There are many reputable salvage suppliers listed on the internet if you do not have one near your community. Check the aftermarket supply from your local auto parts supplier. Aftermarket products are many times very cost competitive and good quality. no

Check for "fog" or smells coming from the heater core, indicating a heater core leak. Check the oil for a milky color in case coolant is leaking into the oil. If these areas are ok, then perform a pressure test on the cylinders, as there is probably a blown head gasket allowing coolant to leak into the cylinder and be lost through the exhaust.

The most common failure of dash lights, radios and various dash electricals is a common ground that has gone intermittant. Checking a vehicle electrical schematic will confirm the commonality of these systems & the manual will specify the location of said ground connection. Usually the ground will be lightly corroded or rusted...usually just enough to wreak havoc. Driving the car will pass along vibrations into the body which make for this intermittant connection.

The fact that it is a grand Cherokee has nothing to do with it. The fact that you have an electrical short has everything to do with it. Open the hood. Find the battery. Find the red wire from the battery. Trace the red wire and the wires leading off from it until you find the spot where you can see the insulation removed and there is bare wire. Replace that wire. Hopefully that caught it.

If that did not catch it, then it will be necessary to get a volt meter and find the specific wire that has the short. If it is not is a bare wire, it may be in a broken piece of equipment. You need to find out where. Since you want to learn about your vehicle without working with another back yard mechanic like the rest of us did, that is a possible way. You have to find the short and replace the bad part.
