How do you change fuel filter 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

On my 1989 Jeep Cherokee, the EXTERNAL fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle's driver's side going into (or out of?) the fuel tank near the wheel well...it looks round & fat with fuel lines running out of both ends and is secured with a bracket or clamp. It is accessible , but in an awkward position to remove unless you jack up the vehicle a bit to allow some "elbow room". It looks like you will need at least a screwdriver, and maybe a small wrench and plier to rermove retaining clips around the fuel line hose on one end; not sure what connects the other metal line; you will have to look closer with better light! The internal fuel filter or "screen" is located INSIDE the fuel tank and requires lowering of the fuel tank to get to If anyone knows where the fuel pump RELAY switch is located, pls let me know ASAP, I have a "mobile mechanic" coming over Sat or Sunday to replace the fuel pump itself, and am hoping it may not be necessary if my relay alone is bad! What do you do when you can't get the hatch open on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I had the same problem. I took mine to the Jeep dealership, they said it was a simple fix and and fixed it for free. temorary trick that works on jeep doors also is to push in on the hatch then pull up on the lever and lift open. it relieves some pressure on the latch mechanism so it ot perates. BODY SHOP guy can fix in 5 minutes, the cable that runs through the lock mechanism has slipped too far up, they will remove the rear panel that has carpet on it & see the lock & fix the cable, very simple!

Where is the Daytime Running Light Module specifically located for a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Answer

The Daytime Running Lights module (DRL) is located behind and below the radio in all Gen 1 Neons (at least the Canadian versions). Remove the console faceplate by just pulling it off. Remove the Radio with a 10 mm socket. You may be able to continue without unplugging the radio, but it's easier to access if you do.

The DRL is bolted on an angle to the lower rear of where the radio sits. Two 10 mm bolts also hold it in place, you will be easily able to see the left hand one.. the right will be more difficult. Both can be accessed by inserting your 10 mm socket on and extension through the bolt access holes under the radio housing. Be careful not to lose the bolts when you've released them, as fishing them out from the shifter console will be annoying at best!

The DRL is connected by one large rectangular connector... it just unclips and pulls off. You will lose your daytime running lights and High Beam indicator once removed, however all other headlight functions will remain.

How do you enable or install daytime running lights on US model 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo?

if they are not on and they are supposed to be then first check ur fuse pannel and be sure that it is a good fuse and if that's not the problem then sometimes the emergency brake causes them not to come on..... so check and see if the E-brake is one click down (it is not enabled at one click) if it is then un-lock it and they should come on

Was your Jeep an American one?If so you will have to take it to the dealer and have it reprogrammed

How do you add freon to 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

A 2000 vehicle will use R-134A refrigerant. They make adaptors to inject cans of refrigerant directly in to your system. This is not a good way to do it though. Your system is designed to hold a very specific amount of refrigerant. You should have your system filled by a trained person with the proper gauges, scales, etc... to ensure the right amount of refrigerant is used. A good repair person will also use a vacuum pump to determine if there are any leaks in the system. This is all equipment that is very expensive. This makes filling your A/C system impractical to do at home. You should probably bring it in to a service shop.

How many miles is expected on a Jeep Cherokee inline 6?

Impossible to answer, without knowing how well it has been maintained all of these years. I have a 1989 Cherokee. With reasonable maintenance (oil changes every 4k to 8k miles), I have 249,000 original miles on her. No transmission issues or heavy engine work. Just the normal water pumps, fuel injectors, etc. issues. Maintenance and driving conditions play a HUGE factor in vehicle longevity, as well as intervals between major mechanical breakdowns. As far as I have experienced, and from what I have heard reported from other Jeep owners, this vehicle is by far one of the hardest cars to 'kill'. It just keeps on running and running.....

Where is the crank or cam shaft position sensor located on a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Why does the heater fan come on even with the key off in a 97 jeep grand Cherokee limited?

Many newer model vehicles have fans that keep running. I would bet yours is supposed to run for a minute or two to assist in cooling.

How to replace the water pump on the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

Addition: 1 Remove Fan shroud and fan. The 1992 Cherokee does not have a shroud (at least mine doesnt) and the fan is easy to remove. 2. To loosen the belt, the easiest way is to remove the air filter box. a. open air filter box and remove filter b. remove bolt(s) at the bottom of the filter box c. remove all hoses attached to the filter box d. carefully wiggle air filter box loose, and remove e. loosen the 2 pivot bolts on the power steering pump (one is in front, one in back) f. loosen the tensioner bold under the power steering pump (access easier if you remove the air filter box. g. push down on the power steering pump so it slides a bit and relieves tension on the belt h. remove belt. NOTE: make sure you have/make a routing diagram so you know how to put it back again. 3. Remove the water pump 4. Remove the water pump gasket and discard 5. Clean the gasket surface 6. apply a THIN film of Silicon gasket sealer to both sides of the new gasket 7. put the new gasket on 8. install new water pump 9. torque bolts according to factory spec (I just tighten them by feel, but I'm sure it's not reccomended) 10. Put everything back the way you found it. Note: if you are going to do this water pump and rip half your engine compartment out anyways, you might as well do the timing chain if your car has over 100k miles on it. The Steps are the same, except after you take off the water pump, take off the timing chain cover and replace the timing chain. Make sure you mark the timing gears so you can put them back together properly. Not totally sure about the '93, but on the '96 you have to do the following 1. Remove Fan Shroud and Fan. Fan comes off with 4 bolts. 2. Loosen Belt and remove. 3. Remove 6 bolts in the water pump *fan was actually attached to the water pump. that's basically all there is to it.

only iff the steerin wheel came off the same year moter if there is an air bag in it. the plug for the dcu will de different if you try and cut plug or try change it the dcu will not work. and if you hava a bump non of the airbags in the motor will work and your insurers will ask questions. but before removig the steerin wheel make sure you disconect the battery for at least an hour to let the static discharge its self they deploy over 100mph . they wont go off if you disconect battery . but make sure you no your code for your sterio as this will just add to your problems . if the sport looks the same steerin wheel wise the should .

Where is fan relay switch for 2001 Jeep grand Cherokee?

The relay on our 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was located behind the headlight on the passenger side of the vehicle. We were told by the technicians at the Jeep dealership that you have to remove the bumper to get to it OR you can remove the headlight assembly and drill a hole large enough to get a socket and extension to the bolts on the relay. That's what I did....removed the headlight and drilled a 5/8" hole to get to the relay screws. Why Jeep puts this relay in such a hard place to reach is beside me - - - other than perhaps they don't want it to be easily customer replaceable. Argh! Good luck. I just broke the plastic under the headlight by making hole with a knife and then putting a screwdriver in the hole and tisting. It was alot easier than driling ,but whatever you prefer. I just had a hard time finding a socket for that size bolt. I paid $80.00 for the relay does that sound right or was i taken for a fool? It WAs a lot faster and cheaper tham taking it to the dealer they wanted to charge me $175 to install this $80 relay. Sometimes i can't believe the shamelesness.

What causes front end shimmy in a 1996 Grand Cherokee?

Normally if the shimmy occurs at around 50-60 mph, I would suspect a tire out of balance. However if the shimmy is constant, it may be a bent wheel, loose wheel, loose wheel bearing, or worn suspension parts. Have your tires rotated and balanced. At that time have them check for a bent wheel. Make sure when they install the wheels back on the car they are torqued to factory specs. Have them inspect your front suspension parts for damaged or worn parts. Can also be a defective tire. Look for bulges on the sidewall, or a tire that is wearing unevenly. Make sure the tires are aired up to the specifications listed on the driver's door post or in your owner's manual. No more no less.

How do you replace a door speaker in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited?

depends where you want to install them. the doors are real simple. just take the door panel off and rmove the old speakers. you need to make new holes for the speakers but it depends on what type of speakers you want. you can also use the same wiring from the other speakers if you want. tha back speakers are a little harder to get out.you have to take tha panel off i think but not sure.

Where is the fuel filter on a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited?

There are 2 filters.

  1. One is on the end of the pickup tube inside of the gas tank.
  2. The second is in-line, above the front edge of the gas tank, inboard of the frame member. It is part of the fuel regulator/filter assembly.

Here's a diagram:

http://www.wjjeeps.com/misc/fuel_filter_wj.jpg

This second filter is the one you should remove and inspect. Probably unhealthy, but I generally blow through them to see if they're clogged (it's the best test I've found- if it's hard to blow through, or your ears pop, replace it!).

Oh, your new filter should have some simple instructions inside the box.

What would make the front end of a Jeep Cherokee make a whinding noise when in four wheel drive?

This sounds like a common problem, but it would be nice to have more info on the Jeep. You must have the 5.2 engine. It comes with a Model 249 Transfer case. This T-Case has what is called a Viscus Coupler in it that is supposed to give approx 60% power to the rear wheels, and 40% to the front. Then change as needed. The Viscus Coupler is known to be a problem. If you have this setup then I would be willing to bet that when you make a sharp turn you are also getting alot of skipping with the tires, and possibly when it is warmed up you turn sharply into a parking space at a store, shut it off, and just sit in the car for about 5-10 mins, you feel bumping from under the car. All of this is common with a Viscus Coupler going bad. They are not cheap to fix at a shop. It can cause your front CV's / Axle to go bad very quickly. Along with other things. If this is not the problem, and it is coming from the rear end, then you might have a limited slip inside the rear end. IT could be going bad and making a grinding noise. I hope this helps you out in finding the problem.
