I would start with replacing the spark plugs. Should be around $20 for the set. Disconnect the battery to re-set the check engine light. If that doesn't take care of your problem and you get the light again, go to Autozone and get the coil that mounts on the #2 cylinder plug. You have two coils, on #2 and #4. Cylinder #1 jumpers to #4 and #2 and #3 are jumpered together. It is real easy, just disconnect the molded plug that runs to the coil, remove two bolts and remove the plug wire that goes to #3 cylinder. Hope that this helps.

if your pushing in the button to release the key the tumblers in ignition switch bad If you have an A/T, the shift linkage might be off alittle not letting the shifter go all the way into park. Your wheel lock could be keeping the key from turning. If your tires are turned, turn them further from straight while turning the key. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Multiple sources claim that this light serves the dual function of indicating that the light sensor is active and indicating that the security system is active. Since this makes no sense, I'm currently assuming nobody at Kia actually knows what it does.

I just replaced the High Pressure Power Steering hose on my 2001 Kia Optima.

I found that the best way to do it was to remove the WHOLE hose from the pump side (easy), and then I removed the other end of the hose from the joint that goes into the steering box. Then I worked the whole hose assembly out of the engine compartment the best way that I could!

I tried to separate the two pieces back by the firewall, but that was unsuccessful. Even after I weaseled the whole hose assembly from behind the firewall by removing the firewall clamps and the whole air filter, I needed to use a torch and a vice (don't crimp the hose) to get the two pieces separated.

Of course, putting them back in reverse order was a lot easier!

It will take 4 to 4 1/2 quarts. You should also change the filter and it doesn't need to be expensive.

Kia has their own transmission fluid that is recommended for their cars. You can get transmission fluid for the Optima at any Kia dealer.

There are two screws under the back dash that need to be removed to lift the assembly off the back dash. I had a problem with the same car. No brake lights at all. I disconnected the power to the third light and the main two brake lights started to work. There must be a short in the third brake light harness.

If it makes a clicking, grinding, rattling, or other noise when you accelerate with the steering turned it is not safe.

Take it to a good repair shop, because if u turn the crank shaft or the cam shaft, the entire timing of the pistons will be out of sync, causing misfires, sluggishness and engine damage. U should be able to find shop 250 on the low end, and 375 on the high end. Timing belts do last a long time, but if u have 100,000 I highly recommend u get it changed be 4 it snaps. Alot of damage will happen costing $$$$$$$$ to fix
