Your computer must have a network to access if you are going be able to get on the Internet. Internet Service Providers can set you up with an account that will allow you to login at 'hotspots's, such as the coffee shop. IF you want to have access at home, you will have to set up an internet account, and then buy a wireless modem or router to allow you to connect to the internet.

Take a closer look at the LCD screen. Can you see a very dim image on the screen? If you can, most likely there is a problem with the inverter board.

The inverter board is a power supply for the LCD screen and when it goes bad the screen looses backlight.

The inverter board is located inside the laptop display. In order to replace it you'll have to open up the display panel.

You can connect your laptop to a dial-up connection, or you can use a high speed Ethernet cable to connect from your cable modem or Ethernet wall jack to your computer. If you want wireless internet, you will need a cable modem or an Ethernet wall jack and a wireless router.

This year, worldwide sales are expected to hit 3 million, up 38% since 1989, says Dataquest, a Silicon Valley research firm. Barbara Bush taps away on a GRiD portable. Walter Cronkite works on a Compaq. Here's how to tell which one is right for you: -- Software. Most laptops are IBM-compatibles to run such favorites as WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3. -- Memory. Most IBM-styles now boast 640K of random-access memory (RAM). -- Speed. If you're a demanding user -- say, a C.P.A. -- get 16 megahertz or higher. -- Storage. A typical laptop floppy holds 720K or 350 double-spaced pages; most hard disks stash at least 20 megabytes or about 27 times that. -- Power. Batteries commonly last three or so hours. MODEL PICKS: Tandy 1500 HD. Just released, this six-pound notebook offers a 1.44-megabyte floppy drive. You can connect your laptop to the Internet with a cable modem, sure. You will need an Ethernet cable to do that. If you want wireless internet, you will need a cable modem, and a wireless router as well.

This message means your laptop has been infected with a SubSeven Trojan virus.  What you want to do is update your virus protection program, or have one installed, and run the virus program.  This should rid your laptop of the virus.  I know in Windows XP, they recommend you turn off the System Restore before running virus protection programs.  Not sure in any other version of Windows. 

i am experiencing the same problem in my new PC. My ISP isa saying my vendor has some sort of firewall installed that is preventing me to ping my defualt gateway.

I am also looking for the solution.

The most likely answer is that your wireless card is not properly configured to connect with your network. The sent activity is coming from your wireless card attempting to contact the router and then the network; the lack of incoming packets means that the router is not receiving your sent signals.

I would suggest setting you laptop next to your wireless router and attempting to configure your network from there. This would eliminate almost all chance of being out of your router's range.

The configuration menus change by make and model of your router so I can't provide any specifics only a general list of steps to take.

First I would open up Command Prompt (Start>Programs>Accessories) and then type "ipconfig" and press enter. This will provide you with the general information and configuration of ALL enabled network devices that are part of your computer. This means that if you have a wireless card and an ethernet card (wired) the status will show up for both.

typing "ipconfig" will tell you your Internet Protocal (IP) address. This will most likely be something like 192.168.0.X where X is a number between 1 and 255. If your IP is not within this range then your router has been altered from its factory settings and your problem would need hands-on help.

ipconfig would also tell you your subnet which should be 255.255.255.0 and your default gateway wich may or may not be displayed.

Sorry for the long answer but it isn't exactly an easy problem to solve. It would really help to have you trying the steps I have suggested while in communication so I may provide more specific answers.

Yes you can. Just make sure in display properties you have selected s-Video out as the secondary display and make sure projector has S-Video as the input source.

You click your start button and go into control panel then system performance to see your stats. It is much harder for a laptop to be good for gaming as apposed to a pc. You will need to have a good processor graphics card and some RAM.

The best gaming laptop is CyberPower FangBook X7-200.

Solution 1: Well what you do first is scrub it with soap and water. Most of the time rubbing alcohol will work. If that doesn't help then you put baby oil on your hands and then use a pumice bar gently so that you dont rub your hand raw. THAT SHOULD HELP

Solution 2: The best way I've found to remove ink (especially printer ink) from the skin is with a diluted bleach solution. Just mix one part bleach and 3 parts water into a spray bottle and spray on hands. If you dont' have a spray bottle, the bathroom sink can work just as well. It works almost instantly. Of course, be careful not to get it on clothing or into open wounds.

Solution 3: I found this stuff called REMOVEEZ. It gets all kinds of stuff off skin. It takes permanent marker off your skin just by massaging with your fingertip. Ball point pen ink, printer ink, and even markers. So glad I found this stuff so we don't have to use all that harsh chemical stuff on our skin anymore.

It depends on the type of ink. For drawing ink, washing your hands with toothpaste (let it stay on your hands until gummy, then wash off) usually does the trick.

Use a pumice stone! If you don't have one, they usually sell them at local pharmacies, it is the most efficient way to remove ink.

Some laptops have sealed keyboards which prevents some of the damage sand could cause.

Another option is using one of those roll up or rubber external keyboards to type with and keeping the main part of your laptop off the sand.

If you do get sand in your laptop on your tropical vacation, try opening up the computer and using compressed air to clean out the sand.

Of course, in general, we don't recommend the mixture of computers and sand at all. However, it is nice to be able to work at the beach. If you take your laptop to the beach, you must want to get sand in it. Sandy is how things get at the beach. It is why we go to the beach. If you don't want things to get sandy, don't take them to the beach. Everything in its place: laptop-office; surfboard-beach.

Yes, you can use laptops on an airplane. You need to turn it off when they close the door to the plane at the gate and stow it under the seat. Then about 10 minutes after takeoff, they will announce that you can now use your electronic devices. When landing, they need to be turned off again and slowed under the seat. About the time they call for tray tables and seat backs in the upright and locked position, they will ask you to turn off your electronics again until you reach your arrival gate and the door to the plane is reopened.

It depends on the voltage. WH = Watt Henry, mAH = milliamp Henry, watts = amps * volts and milliamps= 1000 * amps. Thus the conversion is:

mAH = 1000 * WH / V,

where V is the voltage.

I'm looking at the battery for my Dell Studio and it's rated 85WH and 11.1V. So it's 1000 * 85 / 11.1 = 7658 mAH, so in this case 85WH is better than 6600 maH.

If we solve 1000 * 85 / V = 6600, we get V = 12.9. When converting from WH, the bigger the voltage the lower the mAH. So for voltages bigger than 12.9 V, 6600mAH is better than 85WH.

No Walmart does not have layaway.

Walmart starting this year will do layaway until a bit before christmas starting in the middle of october for customers (year 2011). Walmart always has layaway in the jewelry dept and on special ordered guns (select stores).

Firstly, you need a media player. If you have Windows, Windows Media Player should do the job nicely; simply double click the file in your folder. Alternatively, you can right click, and select "Play in Media Player". Or, if you do not have Windows Media Player, or do not wish to use it, I can suggest a media player, named "Billy", from the site . Most graphics professionals prefer Mac-based computers since they seem to be better at displaying graphics. The big downside to Apple computers is that they are much more expensive than PCs in most cases and the software selection available for them is much less. You cannot buy third-party hardware in most cases that will work with an Apple computer.

mAh stands for milliamp hours and is a partial measure of the energy that can be stored in a battery. It is the standard used for rechargeable batteries but rarely used for non-rechargeable batteries.

The rating is only a partial measure because the voltage affects the total energy stored. For a given mAh rating, the higher the voltage of the battery, the more energy can be stored.

For two batteries that deliver the same voltage, a 7200mAh battery will store more energy than a 4400mAh one. Therefore, the 7200mAh battery should last longer.

There are other factors that affect how long a battery can last. The type of load can have a significant effect on the battery life and the condition of the battery itself.

Laptops are not strongly advised to record music with due to them previously not being able to compare with the power of desktops and hardware audio workstations. You would need one with generally good memory (RAM - 2gb minimum) and speed (the processor - around dual 3.2 ghz minimum.) Take the Hard Drive space into consideration as audio files can be quite big. Also, be aware of the sound card, some laptops may not support the software you use, however this is probably unlikely.
