How do you get your laptop to connect to a new network?

When your laptop is charged and on, there should be a lower right module on the screen that indicates internet connectivity and will help you connect to a wireless network. How do you connect your Sony VAIO laptop to a d-link router?

There are a couple of ways to do this: wired and wireless. If you want to have a wired connection, then all you need to do is run an Ethernet cable from one of the four switched ports on the back of the router to the Ethernet port on the laptop and after a few seconds of the laptop and router negotiating, you should be online.

On the other hand, if you want to be able to move around or would rather not have a network cable "tying" you down to one certain area or stringing along behind you like a high-tech leash, then you can configure your wireless network adapter in the laptop to connect to the router by telling Windows to connect your computer to the appropriate wireless network (SSID) and giving it the appropriate keycode to access that network. By default, there should also be a checkmark in the box "Connect automatically" so that anytime you start up the computer and it detects that wireless network, it will connect to it and get you online without any further ado.

What do I need to use a US laptop in UK?

Among other things, you need to get an electrical converter. Since your laptop runs on electricity, you obviously need this thing. The European nations run on 220 volts, and American laptops run on 110. So run, do not walk, and get this thing. It is easily available at travel shops, computer shops, and general merchandise shops. Secondly, check with your cellphone provider and see if there are wifi cards for your machine to buy. It would be wise to hook up with your provider in advance and avoid sudden surprise bills. Have a marvelous time on your trip!

Is there anyway to connect a laptop to a desktop PC to use the monitor for the PC if so how?

The first thing you need is to check your connections cable, you'll need a VGA, DVI or HDMI cable to transmit the signal from your laptop to the monitor. (You can use the cable from the desktop PC)

VGA is usually a blue cable, DVI is white, but looks a bit like VGA, and HDMI is a small black cable (sometimes golden in the end).

Remember: HDMI also allow sound transfer.

When you know which cable you're using, then you should just plug it in the computer when you can see your desktop, then in the monitor, and it will work.

If the cable can't be plugged in, you'll need an adapter.

You can find pictures of the cables/adapters by searching on Google images

Where is the full screen button on the keyboard?

There isn't a fullscreen button. F11 will make your browser full screen without the toolbar or any buttons. If it's for a movie, there should be a full screen button somewhere in WMP, or double clicking might work. For a game, you're going to need to dig through the settings to change the resolution to fullscreen.

Is there any way to upgrade the graphics card on a hp pavilion notebook?

Yeah,

Although you can upgrade the video card on a laptop, it is very difficult and you would need to open your laptop up, and then un-solder the card and then put new compatible card in and then solder again.

The soldering part is the main question... a professional computer tech will have to do this... and it'll cost you$$$...

So by the time you pay for that, investing in a newer computer is a better option.

Good Luck!

You have two basic options.

1.You can connect your laptop to your cable, fibre optic, or DSL modem or Ethernet port using an Ethernet cord.

2. You can connect your cable, fibre optic, or DSL modem or Ethernet port to a wireless router using a Ethernet cable. You then connect your laptop using wireless to your wireless router.

Laptop monitor samsung R40 flickering and showing nothing but blue white colors. I connected the laptop to an external monitor and the laptop works. is it the source of the monitor the problem?

If the external monitor works fine then most likely there is nothing wrong with the motherboard or video card and the problem is somewhere inside the laptop display panel.

Here's what I usually do in order to narrow down problems like this:

1. I reseat the video cable connectors on both ends, on the motherboard/video card and on the back of the LCD screen. If the video cable gets loose, it might cause a problem like on your laptop.

2. Replace the video cable

3. Replace the LCD screen

Why does my laptop say it is plugged in and not charging it isn't even plugged in but was all night?

Well that's a question lots of people encounter, who use laptops.

Its reason is not common for all, for example mine problem was caused due to heating.

Actually i live in hot environment, so i had to first let the battery cool off by shutting down laptop for some time.

Some people say that their problem was never solved.

some say that a bios upgrade solved it.

some say installing windows vista caused it. (Well personally i don't believe this one because Microsoft keep sending you upgrades and it would have been solved by installing upgrades. actually mine disappeared after updating to service pack 2)

So try these suggestions :-

  • First install an bios upgrade. (You can find it on your laptop manufacturers website.)
  • second try what i did. And Update windows regularly
  • Third there is a fan on bottom of your laptop, it helps it to cool off so do not let it be covered, use a flat cardboard or wooden board beneath it if you want to keep it on something like bed sheet, sofa etc. ask a carpenter to cut one of your laptops size if you don't have 1
  • Fourth Lithium ion batteries of laptops are considered to have a life of 1 year (Yeah 1 year that's what i thought when my company told me) So calibrate it once a month (Calibrating :- charging laptop battery 100% than Discharging it until it turns off on its own and than charging again 100%)
  • Now i have told you what your customer care executive might have told you. Still If your laptop is in warranty than for gods sake call your company first.

..................................

edit:

Call the company first? Really?

I feel that you should call the company after you do some searching online. It usually results in you finding an answer much faster than you ever would through customer support, and is actually much less stressful all the while being just as satisfying.

Thanks for wonderful answer though! But anyway, it ended up fixing itself. I am guessing it's a problem stemming from Windows 7 RC1's power management functionality.

What do you do if your DVD gets stuck in your laptop and your Mac laptop is beeping?

I don't know why the mac would be beeping, but to remove the disk you have to restart the mac. Then once its shut off, hold down the 'left click' on the mouse or keypad until you can tell its starting up again. Then while still holding the mouse down, you hold the opition key. Do this for a couple seconds and the disk should come out, even if it isn't far enough in for the mac to read it :) I had the same thing happen to me and this saved me from a $100 bill :)
