i get white smoke when i step on the gas.

Open the trunk and there is a compartment that will expose the taillights. twist the bulb housing and pull it out.

I had this problem on and off for over 1 1/2 years, until finally, last year, my local Toyota dealer fixed it, under warranty, repairs totaled over $1200.00! My Rav 4 is a 2001, but apparently it is a large issue because I jst received a notice from Toyota stating that there has been a problem with the system that involves the "Check Engine" light, and they requested my car be brought in, if I hadn't already done so - contact a local dealer ASAP!

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

Question why do I have to see a dealer? I have the master key, found instructions on the Internet for a 2004 to delete existing keys except master, than how to reprogram smart keys and valet key. Not sure if the same programming instructions work for a 2005? (I have been able to program all of my other smart keys fo other "dealer only" monogramming .

My 94 ls 400 did the same thing. After several expensive parts replaced, I replaced the plugs and wires, and all acceleration/ sputtering/ smoking problems stopped. Hope this helps.

It probably bent the valves. Call a dealer and ask if it is an iterference engine. If so it probably bent valves. You can run a compresson test to verify. 1992 LS400 is not an interference engine. It is unlikely that the valve train was damaged by losing the timing belt. Assuming the engine didn't run hot long enough to do damage, the timing is probably off. The timing belt needs to be checked to ensure that the timing marks are properly aligned. Ignition problems could also be to blame, but I would check timing first. Just for info, interference engines were installed late 1994 and newer.

i also have an 1990 ls 400 with ignition wirind promlems. i searched for a few weeks and tried to get the diagram through various mechanics. they all ended up telling me that the dealership would not provide them with it. so, the Lexus dealership is just about the only place to get the wiring diagram. your question was not very detailed so i may not be giving the answer you need. the problem with my auto is that the key will not turn past the "on" position, if this is the case then the easiest solution is to hotwire the starter. this is possible by connecting the positive terminal on the starter syleniod using jumper cables and then turning the key to "on". once this has been set up; simply touch the other positive clip on the jumper cables to the positive terminal on the battery. this should start the car. -CoNtRaFoRm-

I recently had to replace my low beam headlight, driver side. There may be a better way but this is what I did. I had to remove the whole headlight assembly. There are, I believe four blots in two areas that hold it in. Remove the bolts and slide the assembly forward, out the front of the car. May take some maneuvering. Once out unscrew the back light holder and remove bad light. Reverse this process to complete the replacement. Notes... be very careful with the new light as they cost in the $80-$120 range. Use clean gloves and be sure the bulb holder is tightened securely. Whole process should take no longer than 30 minutes. There are also two different low beam lights for some Lexus 430's so you may want to take the old light out before purchasing the new light.

yes, but you need an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. attached to the adapter is a 9volt battery. plug that into the lighter before disconnecting the cables to the car battery. that adapter w/ the 9 volt battery attached to it will keep just enough voltage in the cars computer system to allow you to change the cars battery. w/o that adapter when you disconnect the old battery and reconnect the new battery the cars onboard computer system will default and blow several fuses. go to an auto parts store and rent the adapter for a few bucks.
