How do you change the rear brakes pads on a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII?

This is quite easy as long as you have to proper tool. Get the car in the air and support it with jack stands. Remove your wheel. Remove the bolts that hold the caliper in place. Remove the pad from the caliper. With you special tool (basically a metal block with protruding nubs. any parts store should have them) turn the metal caliper foot counter clockwise until its recessed all the way. Install the new pads. Once the car is back on the ground make sure to pump the brakes because the new pads will be away from the rotor. If you just drive away the car will be hard to stop the first couple times.

Answer

That response is too basic. First. Get a book with pictures that tells you how to change the brakes. Then turn off the air suspension and then lift the car and support with jacks under the axle. After removing the wheel, have someone turn the other wheel while you observe the pads and rotor for signs of warping. ABS brakes-Remove the emergency brake cable from the housing braket-(not easy). You will need a hex tool to remove the caliper bolts. This can be a real pain in the butt if they are frozen. Use plenty of lube spay and vice grips. Remove the anti rattle retaining clip that holds the brake pads in place at the bottom. Remove the pads and reset the caliper (if its good, otherwise you will need to bleed the brakes requiring a full replacement of only DOT 3 fluid(not Dot 4). When resetting the caliper, some fluid may need to be removed from the brake reservoir. Its always a good thing to clean out the reservoir with rag and fresh fluid. Remember brake fluid attracks moisture easily so do not leave the reservoir open for long periods. Use a bungi cord to secure the caliper up and away from the rotor (be carefully not to over stress the brake line). Remove the rotor and gently clean up the ABS ring with a wire brush and treat with light lube. If re-using the rotor us light sand paper to remove the glaze and wash it clean. With the rotor in place, put on the new pads and Use special caliper bolt lube on the entire bolt and tighten. Don't forget to reattach the anti rattle retaining clip and the emergency brake cable (lube it too). With the brakes back together (reservoir full) and wheel off turn the key on to energize the system. Pay attention to reservoir level and pump the brakes a few times, add any additional fluid. Turn the opposite wheel to make sure the wheel turns freely. If everything oK then apply Never Seize to the wheel lugs and put the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern.

On a 1989 Lincoln Mark VII how can you tell if a neutral safety switch needs to be replaced and how do you replace it?

on the top of the steering column, close to the floor is the neutral safety switch. it is a plastic (usually white) piece with wires plugged into it. a screwdriver will remove two screws one on eash side. If your engine starts only in park or neutral then the neutral safety switch is ok. if your engine starts in any other gear then it needs to be replaced. hope this helps.

EXCUSE ME FOR BUDDING IN BUT YOUR ARE WRONG. THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IS LOCATED AT THE TRANSMISSION CASE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE

AS IT IS ON ALL FORD PRODUCTS WITH THE AOD STYLE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS THE ONLY TRANSMISSION THE THIS CAR CAME WITH THRU 1992 DAVE FROM LEE MYLES TRANSMISSIONS ROSLYN HEIGHTS NY 516-484-0010

How do you replace a window lift motor on a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII?

Take off the door pnl by pulling off the speaker grille you will find a screw, another screw is on the side of the door pnl by the door lock button (kind of in the jamb area), there is another screw behind the carpet on the bottom of the door pnl (you removed this carpet by prying it out with a screw driver very carefully), pull off the trim that goes around the pnl with the seat adjustment switches and remove the screws around that plate with the switches for the seat and the door lock switch then unplug the 2 plugs behind it, then through the holes where you removed the carpet piece take an 8mm or 5/16 socket and remove the chrome handle you open the door with, then carefully pry off the door pnl by every plastic push button with a door pnl remover tool (you can find these in any auto parts store or Harbor Freight) it looks like a Y shaped tool but it has an open elongated slot in the middle that you slip around those plastic connectors that are attached to the inside of the door pnl, if you carefully pull the door pnl out a little bit you can see them... Once you get the door pnl off carefully remove the foam piece behind it and take a flash light now and look inside to see where it is, there is another speaker hole down in the lower corner towards the front of the door you can remove it from, but you will have to unbolt it first and you will need a small hole saw and a drill... in the area where the gear head of the motor is there should be 3 tiny center punch marks where you will drill out (use a hole saw because a drill will butch up the sheet metal, get a hole saw a little bit bigger then the 8mm or 5/16 1/4 drive socket)... Now you can with a log extension go through the holes you drilled and remove those bolts carefully while holding onto the motor and remove it though that speaker hole and unplug it... When installing the screws I always use a little bearing grease on the heads of the bolts so they stay in the socket and make sure you get the window motor lined up right (this is very challenging and you will need to be very patient while doing this)... Once you get it back in and plugged in give it a run up and down, you might even have to side the window down a little to get the motor to seat all the way in... Before you put the new motor in you should be able to side the window up and down by hand very easily, it's also best to grease all the sides and spray some lube on everything in there that moves (I use CRC 336 for marine use on all pivots and synthetic grease on the sides... Any binding will burn out the motor early... Then reverse the whole procedure and put everything back together!!! Good Luck!!! I can do this in less then an hr now because my car is on it's 3rd set of motors it just turned 22yrs old!!!

Where is PCV valve in a 1990 Lincoln Mark VII LSC?

I have an 89 LSC and the PCV is located at the back of the plenum on the intake manifold. There is a hose coming out of it--pull up on the hose until the pcv comes out or the hose pops off of it----Its a stretch for sure and a flashlight is definitely recommended!

there is a wire filter under the pcv. a deck screw taped to the end of a Phillips screwdriver is the best tool to use to remove it for cleaning. when you replace your pcv, clean the wire filter under it. the pcv valve, grommet and wire filter are still available from the dealerships.

How do you repair a 1989 Lincoln mark vii lsc amplifier?

How do you change the air ride to shocks on a 1988 Lincoln Mark VII?

I wouldn't do it They do make a conversion kit but it is extremely inadequate and doesn't hold up anywhere as well as air ride.I am currently in the process of converting one of my Marks back to air ride after the previous owner put the spring kit on it it is just terrible. The air ride system is not all that difficult to repair and doesn't have to be costly either if you know where to look for the best prices on parts and fiding someone knowledgable enough to repair it without too much difficulty.

I have 3 Lincoln Mark7s and have used a Strutmasters kit on all 3 and am totally satisfied.

If you enjoy the lousy noisy ride and lowering the value of your cars glad your happy with all that I myself believe in preserving these wonderful cars not devalueing them or taking away from they're unique character that makes them stand out from other cars. I guess it's just a difference between someone who truly appreciates these cars and someone who just owns them.

You hooked up a CD player in your 1988 Lincoln mark vii bill blass and you have no sound to the speakers?

im gonna take a stab in this, but,if you cut any wires to put the stereo in, then chances are that you are trying to bypass the factory amp in the trunk. i dont know how to go around the amp, but if yougo to your local electronics store purchase the adapter kit, reconnect the wires that were cut. plug the adaptors in the right place and it should work

If you do purchase the wire adapters and your vehicle is equipped with the premium sound... be sure to purchase a line leveler, also can be had at your audio shop
