Yes it is the general consensus that MIT is indeed the hardest college to get into according to the Princeton Review and other reliable sources. Although it does not necessarily have the lowest acceptance rate, its average SAT score is the highest by a good margin. I believe some more well rounded institutions such as Harvard and Stanford may be more difficult to get into but that is just my opinion. Hope I could be of some help.

Nope. Although a perfect score combined with an exceptional GPA, extracurriculars, application.....etc. should guarantee a spot.
MIT is a "math and science" school, focusing on engineering, business, natural sciences, and theoretical and applied mathematics among other things. There are majors in the arts + humanities at MIT, but that is not the main focus of the school.
They were some of the earliest colleges. MIT for one is the Massachusetts institute of technology so that one kinda makes sense. Harvard may have something more to do with being founded there because that's where America spread out from. Things usually just happen to be where they are.
