you need a good ball joint separator. if you use a pickle fork, you will destroy the boot. so, if you are going to reuse the joint, you will have to use the screw in type. once you separate the ball joint, then it bolts to the control arm with 3 bolts.

first, pull the wheel. to be safe, unbolt the brackets that hold the brake hose, and remove the abs sensor and tie it up. remove the brake caliper, and tie up out of the way. disconnect the sway bar link. remove brake rotor for clearance. i always break loose the bolts on the bottom of the ball joint before i disconnect the ball joint

in the fuel tank. you have to drop the tank to get at it.

if its anything like my mx6 u need to loosen the 17 mm nut on the pulley on the pass side a tight fit then from on top the adjustment 8 or 10mm i think should move this pulley to loosen or tighten the belt make sure u loosen the big nut on pulley though or u will bend the long threaded adj. rod

All depends on the vehicle application. Usually you can disconnect the harness connector and remove from hose attachments or pushed into the charcoal canister assy.

These commonly failed in the Millie after about 6 years on the road.

Only solution is try to romove and find a similar motor or pay the dealer for a whole new steering column install ><800 bucks.

2.5L or 2.3L ?

In the case of the 2.5L, there are four, only one which is easily visible.

the rest are difficult at best to see much less get common tools in to DIY.

Live Longer- Pay a shop to find the right one that needs replaced and let them do it.

check fuel pump for power and pressure. if you turn the key to on positionand listen for pump to make noise as soon as key is turned

Usually it is slight mold and mildew in the evaporator case that makes the smell, if you put the air on high and take lysol spray and spray under the glove box and dash that should kill it may take a few times though. Also make sure your evaperator drain hose is not obstructed. A buildup of condensate can lead to mold and a musty smell.

Open hood and remove the hard plastic cover over the headlight and radiator; this will expose most of the mounting screws. Then remove the corner lamp by removing the retaining screw at the top corner of the headlamp; this will expose the remaining mounting screws.

Trouble code P1526 means: Air Bypass System

actually, this is the abv vent solenoid circuit. you must have a 2.3. the vent solenoid lives on the right bank. next to the egr valve, you will see a row of solenoids. the vent is second from the right(KJ03-18-741A). you can ohm the solenoid to see if it is bad, but i am sure it is. 26 is good, above 30 or 0 is bad. you should also change out the vacuum solenoid(4th from the right, KJ02-18-741A), they both go out about the same time, and they cost the same. dealer only. http://www.tascafordparts.com//index.do

this is your best bet for Mazda parts. lastly, if you are going to keep the car, you should also change out the vacuum lines and tees. but this is a big job.

The Mass Air Flow Sensor is located on the top of the box that contains the air filter. It is the black box that is on your front right as you look at the engine. It is a round piece that goes from the top of the box to the engine. It has a wire plug that attaches to the top of it. This is on the S model I imagine it is similar the the 2.5. If you are having problems with it, or have a code clean it first before you change it. It is an easy job all you have to do is take off the band clamps with a screw driver. Buy a can of MAF cleaner spray from the local auto parts store and just spray it out. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE INSIDE OF IT THOUGH. While in there change your air filter as well. if you key wont turn try holding your wheel all the way right has hard as you can and the key should catch. mine does this all the time

ESPECIALLY if parked on a hill and you lock your wheel to the right or left.

WHILE TURNING THE KEY, turn the wheen right or left (it will be hard to do so) to release the pressure from the locking pin in the steering column.

Scared the hell out of me the first time it happened, but all of these Millies start doing at about 7-8 years old.

As my Dad told me once and even applies to this - first time is a bit scary but once you get the hang of it, becomes quite routine and easier to do.

I'm not sure about the S, but in the 2002 with just the 2.5L the therostat is in the lower radiator hose. Mine went out at about 90K miles and I had the same question.

Mazda Millenia's are good cars. But they are VERY hard to work on - little room in the engine compartment. Also since they are rare cars new parts are expensive and junk yards with used parts harder to come by. They all have rubber timing belts that have to be changed on schedule together with the water pump - which is an expensive procedure because of the previous. So the older the car - the more expensive it will be to maintain unless you have a knowledgeable mechanic or do the work yourself. Not for the faint of heart. When they are maintained well - they are Great cars and very reliable.

this must be a 2.3. pcm has stopped communicating with tcu, and the car is in limp home mode(tcs off/tcs lites up on dash, car will not rev past about 2500). most common is the abv circuit. your ce lite must be on, and codes 1525/1526 and 1540 are stored. these are abv vacuum solenoid and vent solenoid circuits, and 1540 is the abv circuit. if i am right, and your car is a 2.3, you should ohm the solenoids. good is 26-29. above that, or 0, they are toast. also, resistance changes when they get hot. if you are going to keep the car, you should also change out all the vacuum lines(21 ft) and tees at the same time. this is a biiig job.
