Started engine after filling car with diesel instead of petrol?

Well, the good news is that filling a gasoline engine with diesel is not as bad as using gasoline in a diesel engine. There is likely no permanent damage. The bad news is that you're probably looking at several hundred dollars (perhaps up to $500) to drain the fuel tank and engine and flush the fuel lines unless you can DIY. If the diesel gummed up the spark plugs and filters, they'd probably need to be replaced, but those are minor costs. If you want to DIY, just drain as much diesel out of the fuel tank as possible. Then disconnect the fuel lines and blow them out. Replace the fuel filter and reconnect everything. Purchase a can of Seafoam FI cleaner and pour the entire can in the fuel tank. This will help remove any moisture and also clean the injectors or carburetor. Fill the tank with at least 10 gallons of fuel or more. The more the better as this will dilute the diesel. You will probably need to use a starter fluid to get it started. Just keep spraying a small amount of starter fluid into the intake until it will run on it's own. Do not spray too much. Don't allow the battery to fully discharge as this will do damage to the battery and do not crank the engine for long periods of time as this will overheat the starter. Once you get it running, you should be OK, and there should be no permanent damage. You may end up replacing the spark plugs but more than likely not.

What is the effect of advanced fuel injection timing on brake mean effective pressure?

The fuel injection timing in a gas engine will not affect the mean effective pressure. In a diesel engine is the principal factor managing the bmep. In a gas engine the fuel injection timing have to match the events of valve opening or tuned induction but have nothing to do with mean effective pressure.

Cars with hybrid and electric motors?

It's called a hybrid because it's part gasoline engine, part electric motor. Thanks to the electric motor, the gasoline engine does not have to run all the time. And when a Ford hybrid is being powered by electricity, it's not burning gasoline. Good for fuel efficiency. Good for the planet. In most instances at low speeds and for short distances, Ford hybrids run exclusively on electricity. At higher speeds, and when you need more power, the gasoline engine kicks in. Ford hybrids also feature a Regenerative Braking System. Unlike a traditional gasoline engine where the energy generated by braking is lost, this innovative technology enables Ford hybrids to capture braking energy and store it for later use.

Which turret lathe has rods?

All turret lathes have rods. These rods are called feed rods and their purpose is to transfer mechanical power from the main drive and gearbox of the lathe to the apron attached to the saddle. This enables automatic movement of the saddle enabling unassisted cutting of a workpiece once the feed is engaged.

What hardness should SAE 1010 cold rolled steel be?

According to the ASME, SAE1010 {ASTM A179, ASME SA179} cold rolled steel (cold drawn) should have a Rockwell hardness of 60 RB. Hot rolled it is reduced to 55 RB.

*(Brinell hardness, 105; Knoop hardness, 123; or Vickers hardness, 108)

How do you repair leaky valve guides?

This is a machine shop procedure which the head has to come off to accomplish.

What is a rock muffler?

A Rock muffler (or silencer in British English) is a device for reducing the amount of noise emitted by a machine.

Rock muffler - rigid silencer muffler

Differences between descriptive and inferential statistics?

All statistical tests are part of Inferential analysis; there are no tests conducted in Descriptive analysis

· Descriptive analysis- describes the sample's characteristics using…

o Metric- ex. sample mean, standard deviation or variance

o Non-metric variables- ex. median, mode, frequencies & elaborate on zero-order relationships

o Use Excel to help determine these sample characteristics

· Inferential Analysis- draws conclusions about population

o Types of errors

o Issues related to null and alternate hypotheses

o Steps in the Hypothesis Testing Procedure

o Specific statistical tests

Why the volume measured in a pitot tube is more higher the that of a venturi meter?

  • water flow from a tank having a free surface area of 10m2 over a 900 notch.it is found that the time taken to lower the level from 8cm to 7cm above the level of the notch is 43.5sec.determine the coefficient of discharge assuming it remains constant during the period

What type of welding process is used to join dissimilar metal?

friction welding can be used to join dissimilar metal. Also depending on the metals most arc welding processes and oxy-fuel can used. It's just a matter of using the correct filler material or electrode.

Why does hot rolled steel have mill scale?

Hot roll steel has a oxidised mil scale on the surface of the steel as it forms in the upper heat ranges from mixing with oxygen at a steel mill. Upon slow cooling, scale oxides will form a scale mainly of a type of iron oxide(s) usually of 3 distinct layers. This mil scale has a ability to be somewhat porous and can retain some moisture and is more noble in galvanic charges and at some times will potentially cause the underlying steel to corrode. The scale is not uniform in nature and can be loose in some areas and tighter in other areas and can pose a problem for people that want to paint or coat over it. The scale should be removed prior to any painting or TIG welding. Scale can be removed with various acid pickling type applications, flame treating, and mechanical blast or abrasion methods and then the freshly exposed cleaned surface of the reactive steel surface should be then protected from forming a fast acting blush rust.

What is the difference between pistal and revolver?

The difference is that a pistol has a magazine and a revolver has a rotating cylinder that has individual chambers to shoot

Is there is scope for mechanical and automation engineering in India?

Mechanical and Automation Engineering is one of the finest branch of engineering. The Modern day Production incorporates the utilization of automation so as to enhance production and decrease the labour requirement. But talking about India, as you know how corrupt and lazy the government sector is, their is hardly any scope for this branch especially when we talk about job opportunities in govt. and Psu areas.

Moreover starting from the year 2011 the PSU's have stop taking or considering the students of MAE branch saying that MAE is not equivalent to ME, despite of the fact that a MAE engineer studies all the subjects a ME engineer does.

No, their would not be any scope for MAE in India unless and until the orthodox thinking and corruption prevails in India.

Note: Future of the Economy is Automation and one day surely, their will be a huge scope of it India too, but not for Now!!!!

What is the relationship between number of propellor blades to the horse power of the ships engine?

Without delving into fluid dynamics or excessive physics, a simple explanation: The relationship lies in the specifics of an individual ship. Most ships run diesel engines, which provide large amounts of torque at low rpm (more fuel economical). Though any sized prop will move a ship, more blades will produce a higher thrust, which is more efficient when using an engine with high torque. For commercial purposes gasoline engines are sometimes used to allow higher rpm. In this situation a prop with high thrust (more blades) will be less efficient, as the engine would not produce enough torque to redline (top speed). Note: Diesel fuel will not produce enough vapour below about 122F or 50C to ignite, however gasoline will and is commonly regarded as being more dangerous for use on board vessels.

What is the difference between blow off valves and waste gates?

the bov allows excess boost/pressure to out of the intake when the throttle body is closed. A wastegate is on the exhaust side and allows exhaust gas to bypass the turbocharger at high rpm, this reduces the restriction of airflow by the turbo.

Why doesn't my 300d Mercedes fan work?

Disconnect the plug to your fan. Hook a jumper wire to ground the negative wire and a hot wire to the positive wire. If the fan doesn't work, then you can buy one on Ebay or other sources.
