Turn it counter clockwise. You may need an oil wrench to loosen it. The new one goes on hand tight turning in clockwise. Make sure that the rubber seal from the old filter came off. Pre-lube the new rubber ring with oil before installing.

This takes moderate skill and you will want to replace your timing belt and your tensioner at the same time. The reason to replace both of these is that they are prone to failure and you will have them off anyway.

Remove coolant from bottom of radiator petcock. remove shroud and radiator.

remove fan clutch and fan. remove acessory belts. remove timing cover and thermo housing.

you will now see the timing belt going over the idler, cams, water pump and crank pully.

put the #1 piston at top dead center and your two cam pulleys and crank pulley should be at the marks corresponding to the block. mark them loudly anyways so you can see them better. try real hard not to move these three.

loosen tensioner and remove belt. unbolt water pump, cleanup face and install new one.

reverse order assembly. make absolutely sure your cams and crank are in the correct relationship when the belt goes on. It is a good idea to replace the front seal too since you are into it this far.

I left out some minor details but you'll figure it out or you shouldn't be doing this.

you best bet from what i hear is to change in throught the passenger wheel well. im about to imbark on this mission my-self too. it seems to me tht you have to take off the pulley's and the alternator and the rest of the pully driven stuff on the front of the engine ( its in sideways so the front of the engine is really the passenger-side). then there is the cover on the front of the engine, looks about 10 bolts, doesnt really seem all tht much trouble. but great cars are theese saturns.

Possibly. I have a 1995 Cougar with the 4.8L V8 and have used various parts from a 96 Thunderbird. My understanding is that, at least from 94 to 97 the 4.8l v8 engines are the same for the cougar, t-bird, mustang, Lincoln mark VII...

Follow the cable from the solonlid to the starter and simply take the bolts out and remove it. once you find the starter there will be 3 bolts one on the passenger side 15mm one on the driver side 13 mm and on the driver side there will be a 13 mm nut holding on a ground wire remove the nut and then remove the 13mm stud disconnect the 2 wires connected to the solenoid 1 spade connector and 1 10 mm i think pull the starter to the left and slide it over the front crossmember.

The water pump runs on the timing belt. You have to take the timing cover off, remove the belt and then remove the water pump. If you reuse the timing belt, mark the belt with a spot of paint at the camshaft and crankshaft so that you can replace it and have the engine in time. If you need to replace the belt, make sure the engine is at top dead center on the timing mark before you remove the belt.

You will need to remove the rear tire and wheel. Remove the axle end cap. Remove the wheel bearing nut. Remove the wheel bearing and the wheel seal. Reverse the process to install the new wheel bearing.

if it is like a 97 there are just 2 hoses and 3 bolts to remove. if you are replacing the pulley with a new one dont worry about removing the old pulley. if you are trying to use the old pulley i'd be very carefull on how you try to remove it. It is a plastic pulley with a aluminum hub and the grip ring that the puller fits in breaks off very easily. I would suggest having a dealer shop remove it for you but i'd bet you would want to replace it anyway due to heat weakening the plastic and it breaking on you going down the road like mine did.

just use the holes in the pulley to slip your socket through and remove the 3 bolts and it pops right off. good luck with it hope this has helped

Simply place a beveled block of wood in between the window and the door to make a gap about 3 inches in front of the hand lock. Then with a metal rod bent at 45 degrees just work it in there until you can find the right bar to pop up. You shouldn't have to work it around or down too far. This method worked on a 1998 F150.

First of all this is a royal pain.

You cannot remove the fan shroud without removing the fan clutch, so, remove the fan clutch and fan shroud. You will have to remove the four bolts holding the fan clutch while reaching under the shroud. If you have lost the sticker that shows how to run the serpentine belt, now would be a good time to draw yourself a diagram, or take a picture. Now you will see that there is a bracket that goes from the front of the power steering pump to the right side of the water pump, there is no way around this that I could find, go buy or borrow a pulley pulling kit (If there is an autozone near you, they will loan you one if you leave a deposit equal to the price, in my case $35 bucks, when you take it back unharmed, you get all your money back including tax)

Pull the steering wheel pump pulley, and it will reveal 2 bolts holding the bracket. Now remove the serpentine belt and unbolt the water pump. It has about 8 bolts, and thanks to the Ford engineering geniuses, they are almost all different sizes, ranging from 13mm to 19mm, you will need deep sockets because a couple of these are nuts on studs. Remove the power steering bracket, then the hoses (one on the bottom, two on the top) and then the water pump. scrape clean the engine side of all the old bits of gasket. put a light film of form a gasket, or some such silicone stuff to hold the new gasket onto the new pump (pump side only, the gasket by itself should seal on the engine side, don't over do it). put the new pump on and replace the bolts (alternate so that you tighten them evenly. Put back everything you took off. Now would be a good time to replace hoses and the belt if they are at all worn. Now curse the ford engineers one last time, and you are done.

The sound is called moosing. It's usually an indication that either the IAC valve (Idle Air Control) valve or a sensor is going bad.

first you have to determine if it is oil or fuel if it's oil then do a compression test if it has low compression squirt oil down the cylinder and if it increases then you got leaking rings if that checks out ok then do a cylinder leakage test that way you can tell if it is exhaust intake valve problems

I used the Napa brand tool, #3355 which cost about $12.00. I will also needed a #50 Torx bit to remove the caliper assy. update- found Napa tool #3163 a better fit, matches the 3/4 inch cube description..

You will need a special tool (3/4 inch cube that snaps on to ratchet wrench) to turn in the pistons on the rear calipers.
