How to replace the headlamp bulbs in a 2000-2005 Mercury Sable
To replace headlight bulb:
- Make sure headlight switch is turned OFF.
- Remove the bolt at the end of the headlamp housing.
- Pull the two black tabs with the L shaped bracket toward the back and then up and pull out(Located at the back of the headlamp) to release the headlamp assembly from the vehicle and pull headlamp assembly forward.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling it.
- Remove the bulb socket retaining ring by rotating it counterclockwise.
- Remove the bulb from the lamp assembly by pulling straight back.
Do not twist, as there are alignment slots built into the lamp assembly socket.
It may take some effort to remove the lamp because it has a rubber o-ring type seal - try a bit of wiggling side-to-side
- Insert new bulb into headlight assembly - don't touch the glass - use gloves, paper towel, or similar
Make sure that the flat surface of the bulb socket is facing upward, and is firmly seated
- Re-attach retainer ring by rotating clockwise
- Reconnect the electrical harness
- Re-install headlight assembly - hold snugly into place until the brackets line up and retainer pins can be pushed down
Replacing front parking lamp/turn signal/cornering lamp bulbs
- Remove headlight / lens assembly per above steps
- Rotate the bulb socket of the offending bulb counterclockwise and remove from the lamp assembly.
- Carefully pull bulb straight out of the socket and push in the new bulb
- Install the bulb socket into the headlight assembly by rotating it clockwise
- Re-install headlight assembly - hold snugly into place until the brackets line up and retainer pins can be pushed down
- Do not touch the glass of the new halogen bulb - the oils in the skin will shorten the life-span of the new bulb, or possibly cause the bulb to explode when first turned on
If the bulb is accidentally touched, it should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol before being used.

This sounds more like a headlamp switch assembly suggestion than one for the actual headlamp assembly. Mine is a 1997, and it calls for turning the assembly retaining ring counterclockwise (when viewed from the back of the assembly), unplugging the wire by gently lifting the latch while pulling, and then removing the bulb.
The procedure for changing the headlamp and turn signal bulb on a 2000 Sable Wagon is to remove the headlamp assembly by first removing the small hex screw that holds the assembly to the body and then remove the two clips that look like half moons and push down through the body to engage the headlamp assembly. Simply pry both of these straight out and remove the entire assembly. Undo the electrical connections and twist off the retainer for either the headlight or turn signal bulb. Reverse the procedure for reassembly.

This is a tricky job. I have no idea why Ford buried the console access under so much junk, but there you are.
First, remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
Then you must remove the radio. (I know, sounds crazy, right?) If you're unaware of the procedure for this, find some long nails that roughly match the diameter of the four holes and insert them. Inserting the nails releases some clamps, allowing the thing to come loose.
Once the radio is out and disconnected, undo the four bolts holding the surrounding plastic (black, runs to steering column).
Now you should be able to unbolt and remove the duct covers surrounding the dash.
Remove and unbolt the dash meter unit. You'll have to disconnect the cable that links the gearshift to the gear display (It's just a loop that unhooks). The whole thing will pull out enough for you to unplug the electrical leads and separate the whole thing.
From there, it's just a matter of replacing burned out bulbs.
Don't forget to recalibrate the gearshift cable upon reconnection!
QUICK FIX If the dash lights are out and you see two green arrows: A solid slap with the palm of your hand on the left side of the hump forward of the steering wheel works every time.
The radio fuse on the 02-03 model Taurus is a 20 amp under the hood. There is 2 rows of small fuses running from front to back in the middle of the box. Its the middle fuse on the first row(on the passenger side of the box). Mine only had 3 fuses on the 1st row and 4 on the 2nd but that depends on your cars options. Ford sucks for not labeling there owners manual better, anyhow hope this saves someone the trouble I went through finding the fuse. have a good one.

I am unsure, but I THINK the fuse box is near the passenger door. Anyway, if you know where the box is, you can find the fuse.

There are two fuses. Look in the owners manual fuse chart. The radio fuse is labled "Cell Port". It is a 20A fuse in slot #17. The other fuse is labeled "Rear Power, antena"
It is a 5A fuse. There is only one and they are both under the hood next to the battery.
