Some bleeding does happen in pregnancies though its not uncommon to have some. I have an eight year old and I bled for a little while in the beginning, my cousin had her periods all the way through to the end of her pregnancy and she had a gorgeous litle girl! Bleeding is a symptom of miscarriage, not the cause. If a woman is miscarrying, it usually means the embryo/fetus has already died and the bleeding starts when the body recognizes that it is no longer pregnant and starts to clean out the uterus so that the fertility cycle can begin again.

Thank you! I also did some other research, and i guess since I just came off the pill, that could have thrown off my ovulation for that month, which could throw off my due date.

I am a 53 years old who has had 5 miscarriages. Before the 5th miscarriage my doctor had informed me that after a blood test was done that a hormone called progestrone was decreasing instead of increasing, unfortunantly he was not able to save me from the loss of the 5th baby. He did say when I get pregnant a 6th time to come in immediately and receive progestone injections for the first trimester and that I'd carry that 6th one to full term. My ex-husband's sister was having the same problem and received the injections and she had a beautiful baby girl 9 months later. unfortunantly I was in my 40's and my ex said we were to old to try for a 6th. I was 6 weeks pregnant when I started spotting it was bright red and had to wear a pad. It did not soak the entire pad though it was alot, so I went to the ER and they did an ultrasound and found a heart beat. My baby (son) was fine, and they told me that if it was a miscarriage it would be heavier blood and bigger clotting. After the heart beat is seen there is less then 50% of miscarriage. If the hospital told you had a miscarriage then you probably did but if you still feel like you are pregnant go buy a pregnancy test to see if you still are to make yourself feel better. I had a miscarriage and my doctor told me it takes a full month for the pregnancy symptoms to go away. Until you have your next period you will still have all your symptoms. And, your first period after a miscarriage probably will be really heavy, clotty and painful.

If you are having cramps and/or bleeding, it would be important to see a doctor. These are signs of a miscarriage or a threatened miscarriage. Only an ultrasound can tell reasonably well how your baby is, or if there is some other cause.

The body takes care of it if you are no more than 3 months. Then it is usually about whether the embryo is viable or not. If you have one without inducing in any way - it is a real miscarriage. Otherwise it is an abortion.
