That really depends on the provider you purchased the phone from. In the US if you would have bought a Verizon phone it most likely could not be used in Europe unless it is dual band (CDMA & GSM) capable. Verizon is one of the few providers in the world that use CDMA technology instead of GSM. Whenever you buy a Droid (or any cell phone for that matter) you need to make sure it is a GSM phone or is at least GSM capable since GSM is the only technology available in Europe and in almost every other country in Asia as well.
