1999 Aurora The headlights and taillights flicker sometimes Even at night when the car is off and it drains the battery Any idea on the cause and the fix?

This sounds like a problem with the light assembly unit. We accidently fried this unit while jumping my 99 Aurora with my husbands vehicle. The Aurora has a fail-safe mechanism that will pretty much fry a lesser component in order to protect the more essential electronics. When this happened - much as you describe, the lights would flicker even when the key was removed. We drove mine to the local GM automotive dealership, pulled multiple fuses so the battery wouldn't burn out overnight and wrote up the sheet to explain to them what the car was doing & why we removed the fuses. They called the next day and explained everything to me. They were the ones that also explained why this happened when we attempted to jump my battery - if fried the light assembly that utilizes the turn signal arm.

Soo if you ever need a dead battery charged.....please remove it from the car !!! It cost us over 700.00 for the turn signal switch. I'm willing to bet that it may be the cause of your headaches as well.

Sorry- but that is ridiculous. The cause is the headlight switch - correct- but it cannot be the result of jumping the car's battery. This is a common problem on the

Olds- google headlight switch for Aurora and you can see a temporary fix by cleaning the contacts. Problem will only return though. You can pull the 2 fuses underneath the back seat- headlight circuit breaker (silver) and tail lamps/parking lights which will prevent the baterry drain unitil you get it fixed. You will have no headlights and cannot drive at night, but it will not affect turn signals or brake lights. Just had mine repaired- about $400.00 if you buy the part on the internet. About a 1-2 hour repair cause you have to pull the steering wheel to remove the old part- let a professional do the work cause the wiring can be tricky.

Where is the fuse box on a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora?

the fuse panel is on the body piller of the drivers side door Two additional Fuse Boxes are located under the rear seat. ( As well as the Battery )

Gently pull upwards on the underside of the rear seat on both the Drivers and Passenger sides

The rear seat should dislodge and be removed easily. Take care with the center seat belt

If you are uncomfortable, try visiting an Auto Parts Store or Repair Center to have them remove it while you watch.

The fuse boxes have a catch both on the top and bottom of the lid. A Medium sized Flat Blade Screwdriver will help un-clip the bottom 2 catches.

Each Fuse Box has a diagram on the lid indicating the Component and Amp that the fuse is used for.

The Fuses inside are Large Sized Blade Style fuses which can easily be removed by hand. They cost approx. $3 at an Auto Parts store.

To replace the seat, slide the rear guides up under the back of the rear seat back and gently push down on the front of the seat base to engage the clips.

Remember to align the center seatbelt into the slot's in the base of the rear seat.

How do you change the wires on a 96 Oldsmobile aurora?

Just did it tonight on my 1995. Surprisingly easy if you ask me, but here goes: First things first, DO NOT remove the plug wiresfrom the coil pack, it is easiest to remove one at a time so there is no guess work in the end on which wire goes where! To start, take the four cover bolts off the cover with a 13mm socket and put the cover to the side. I cleaned it so it would look nice again covering the engine, my own personal preference. Remove the PCV valve from the rear valve cover and pull the hose off, be careful, they are brittle from being in the car for 12 years, put aside. Take the vacuum canister off with a 10mm deep well socket and remove the vacuum line, put to the side. Remove the connectors from the coil pack and put to the side. There are 4 bolts on the coil pack itself, remove the four bolts and put the from the valve cover and set down on the intake manifold, there should be enough wire length for it to sit on the manifold for easy access to the back plug wires. Proceed to replace the wires one by one matching the wire length to the new wires. There should be dielectric grease with your new wires, put some in the boot and on the coil pack terminal to hel avoid corrosion. Replace parts in reverse order and your done! Side note: If you are replacing the plugs too, which I recommend since you have it apart, use a 5/8 inch deep well socket, not a spark plug socket. If the socket works itself loose from the ratchet, it is a son of a gun to get back out!! When you are taking the plugs loose, use an old wire to get the plug out. It has enough force to hold a plug and pull it out after it is completely threaded out of the spark plug hole. Get a swivel and a couple short extensions. Makes the job a WHOLE lot easier. Hope this helps!

How do you remove the shift lever head from 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora to replace the plastic strip?

Hi, actually I just did this on my 98 Aurora today. I didn't know how either until today. There is a slot in the side of the leather that faces the radio. I first thought That you must have to depress a tab or something while pulling up on the handle, Not So. I searched the internet last night looking for an answer and the only thing I could find was how to replace a standard GM knob with a Hurst and it mentioned something about pulling out a retaining clip. I called 3 different GM dealers today and the first 2 gave me the classic "our mechanics are all busy right now" kind of crap (I'll never take my car to them now) Thank You. The third however told me right away that if it was like their Pontiacs, that there indeed is a small retaining clip inside the same slot I mentioned above. To remove this clip, simply take a small blade straight screwdriver (about 1/8th inch wide) and gently dig around in the upper part of that slot I mentioned, until you get a corner of the screwdriver underneath the end of the clip and gently pry it out. The Shift lever will pop right off. It's even easier than it sounds. This clip I would describe as a 'U' shape with back (or the bottom, or the closed part) of the 'U' facing the radio. Remember, you can of course move the shifter around (even into Low) in order to give yourself better access. Of course this 'U' shaped clip sits horizontally around the shifter shaft which is approx 7/16th" OD. WARNING: If the car does have the power transmission switch, beware there is a plug that has to be removed from the handle provding the car has the switch. This plug is a bit of a bear to remove. It has (at least mine did) a removable clip on one side that is harder to put back in upon re-assembly than it is to remove during dis-assembly. Also there is a clip on the other side of the plug. The same small screwdriver that I used to remove the retaining clip for the lever is what I used to get this plug loose. You kind of have to slide the gray (removable clip back partially into the socket before attempting to re-insert the plug. Just play arount with it and I'm sure you'll figure out a way. I sure . I was able to replace my complete center console today (cup holders included) as a result of finding out about the retaining clip. Good Luck, Jim

How do you replace an ignition module on a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora?

Its on the top of the engine at the right front... coils and ignition module are together. Follow the plug wires, away from the spark plugs, where they will connect into the coil pack. The ignition module is sandwiched under the coil pack. To remove either... remove the three nuts under the ignition module and the six torx screws on top of the coil pack.... voila.

After market new modules (10/2010) cost $98-134 at Carquest Auto Parts.

OEM Delco module cost New from B&B Auto parts $ 360

Good Luck

Where is the oil pan located on a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero?

If you are wanting to change your oil and don't know how to get it out, you use an oil pan.

to get the oil out, go underneath your securely elevated car and look for a square box under there (metal in the components) it should be in the front, middleish, slightly behind your motor. To make sure it's the right box, look for a small screw on the back edge (this is for the 2004 oldsmobile alero) you'll need a wrench, but make sure to put your chest below the screw and your oil pan on top of your chest. or else you will get oil all over yourself. The oil filter is in the front side of the box.

btw my directions are as the car drives (forward is front)

How do you change battery thermistor 1995 Oldsmobile aurora?

The thermistor is located on the positive battery cable where the cable connects to the battery. There should be a red cover over it. Pinch together the plastic prongs to remove the red cover. Then disconnect the thermistor from the white clip it is attached to. You can test it with an ohm meter to find out if it is good. The reading on the meter should be 5 ohms. If the reading is lower than 5 or there is no reading at all then the thermistor is bad. Unfortunately this part is discontinued. I was lucky to find one at my local junk yard on another Aurora. Hope this helps.

1995 Aurora Oldsmobile keeps overheating and you have changed the thermostat and water pump?

If your 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora keeps overheating and the issue is not the thermostat or the water pump, it could be the cooling fan. It might also be the radiator (leaking) or the hoses between the engine and radiator, or the shroud could be clogged or damaged.

What is the meaning of the name Aurora?

Aurora is the Latin word for dawn, the goddess of dawn and the morning light in Roman mythology and Latin poetry. Aurora is comparable to the Greek goddess Eos, though Aurora did not bring with her any resonance of a greater archaic goddess.

Also Auroras are natural colored light displays in the sky, usually observed at night, particularly in the polar zone.
