First - make sure the diagram to reinstall it is still on the car or draw a real good diagram of the belt route. You need a socket wrench and vertical breaking bar connected to the idler pully (same as: spring tension pully) mounting bolt. Push the top of the breaking bar towards the back of the car to release the tension and remove the belt from the alternator with your left hand. (Be careful not to slip the socket and snag your fingers between the belt and pully.) You can now remove belt and install the new belt. When you have it routed correctly the last slack portion of the belt will be in your left hand and you must again push back on the breaking bar to give enough slack to place it over the alternator pully.
How do you replace a serpentine belt on a 1992 Oldsmobile Delta 88?
Locate the idler spring tension pully below the power steering pump. The pully is pressing down on the belt and has to be pulled away from the belt so you can remove belt from the power steering or alternator pully. You need a socket that fits the bolt on the tension pully and a socket wrench with a 2 to 3 foot pipe extension. Attach to bolt head, apply counter clockwise pressure enought to loosen belt to allow enough slack to remove belt. Do not get your fingers between the belt and any pully when removing. You might not like it. To reinstall. Route the belt and release the tension again enough to put the belt back on the last pully.
