Why does the dome light stay on while driving a 1996 Pontiac Trans Am?

There are at least three reasons why your dome light may stay on while driving:

  1. Dome lights typically have three settings: (a) on while the doors are closed, to allow the driver to read maps, etc., (b) on while the doors are opened and off while the doors are closed, and (c) off, whether the doors are opened or closed. Check to see whether you've unintentionally left the switch on the a setting.
  2. If you've checked the a setting and if the dome light stays on, you may have a bad switch.
  3. The dimmer wheel, next to the headlight switch, may be turned up. Turn the wheel down to just below the notch.

What could be wrong if both headlight actuators do not work on a 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?

There are three headlight relays that control the operation of the headlight motors. One controls the other two. If one headlight is not raising/lowering properly, the corresponding relay is located to the front of each fender. Thesehave part # 10041733 on them. If both are not functioning properly, the relay, Part # 10022620, is located on the backside of the radiator support, on the passenger side, just in front of the air cleaner on my 1986 305 tpi trans am. The old part # for this relay was 10038949.

The TH350 was the standard tranny. I'm not sure if it could even be ordered with a 4 speed and the 403 engine. In 79 every Pontiac equipped T/A was a 4 speed. But I'm not sure if the 4 speed was available with the 403.

Where is the hood release in a 1976 trans am?

It should be below the driver's side grille in the turn signal area. A 1976 trans am hood release is under the hood in the grill area that is between the headlights. It is on the drivers side. It is just right(if your facing the car) of the small firebird emblem(unless its been removed). Or, simplified. Its is on the far left of the right grill(on the top underside)
