A week in the fridge is probably the max, but it's easy to tell if it's bad...it'll look sorta glossy and taste sour...it's one food that's easy to tell if it's bad...it freezes quite well though Cooked potatoes quickly develop an off flavor that is not very good and there's not much you can do to prevent it. Cooked potatoes are best right after cooking. One day is all I'll keep potato leftovers.

The potato crop failures were caused by late blight, which destroyed both the leaves and the edible tubers, of the potato plant. It is thought that wet conditions over more than one growing season enabled the blight, Phytophthora infestans, to thrive with devastating results.
About as many as two million Irish people emigrated during the famine. It is thought that about one million people died from starvation or other famine-related diseases, one disease being typhus.

They're probably not poisonous, but may have red rot, a form of fungus. If they smell slightly of formaldehyde, it is red rot. If you harvested your own, the crop is a loss. If you purchased them from a farm market, dispose of them (do not compost them) and perhaps let the vendor know. If you purchased them from a store, return them.

Eating them may not harm you, but will not likely taste very pleasant.
