How do people predict natural hazards?
Earthquakes and tsunamis can be predicted with the use of animals. Usually, before earthquakes, many animals' and insects' behaviors, such as toads, elephants and more, become erratic. They would try to break out the cages and chains, wanting to escape. Toads and other insects will come out of their usual hiding places such as drains, holes etc. in large groups.
Hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones can be predicted easily with the use of advanced meterological and satellite systems. The technology will track down the speed, size, direction of the winds, and warnings will then be given out.
Floods can be predicted with water level tracking systems placed on buoys in the waters. They will measure the speed of current, water level and others. Once the water level reaches a dangerous level, warnings will be given. Meteorological stations will also record the amount of rainfall to make sure it does not flood the lands.
Volcanic eruptions are predicted with the initial tremors before the huge eruption itself. Researchers and vulcanologists will be sent to the volcano site to monitor the activities of the volcano that signals any sign of eruption. The radius of the danger zone can be easily calculated based on previous eruptions, the type and size of the volcano.
Avalanches, landslides and mudflows can be predicted with a sense of precaution. One should quickly evacuate after heavy snows and rains as these natural disasters may follow after that.
However, disasters such as lightning strikes (thunderstorms), fires and such cannot be predicted, but can be prevented.
Disasters such as solar flares, meteroid crashes and other astronomical events can be predicted, but might not be prevented.
What are data mining and predictive modeling?
Data mining refers to the study of data (usually by software without human intervention) that is generated by user behavious on the internet. For example, a visit to amazon.com and a look at books on anthropology will probably trigger amazon's software to flag one as someone interested in anthropolgy. This data is then used across the user's net experience on sites like Facebook, Game sites, etc., to show the user ads related to resources on anthropology. This is done through the use of "cookies" that are placed on the user's computer that can then be read by sites that partner with the cookie-placing site to show relevant ads.
While data mining is the first step in collecting user data, showing ads related to what the user was browsing can be redundant. Going by the previous example, if a user has already bought a book on basic anthropology, it makes little sense to show ads for the very same book. Predictive modeling goes a step or two further. Given that the user has already bought a book on basic anthropology, predictive modeling seeks to predict what the user will most likely need next and then to show ads for those products or services.
Predictive modeling uses much more of the data mined, such as the user's age, gender, known experience in the field, other related interests, etc., to build a model to predict future needs and to thus show ads tailored to those needs.
How do you remove the prediction option from the Facebook search?
There is currently no way to remove the prediction option on Facebook Search. This is a popular feature that allows individuals to better find friends and groups, which is likely why it is a permanent option.
Individual crime in itself is a random act, however one can pretty well predict the incidence of a crime occurring in particular areas based on past statistics.
Why is it important to test predictions?
What distinguishes science from irrational belief is that scientific theories must be falsifiable. Falsifiability requires testing predictions which are made using scientific theory. A prediction that checks out adds support to the theory whereas a prediction that does not check out means that either the theory is faulty and needs modification (or scrapping), or that the theory was not used properly in making the prediction.
How do you turn predictive text off?
it depends on the phone you may need to check the instruction booklet.
How is George Bush going to die?
George H.W. Bush will likely die of natural causes (in his 90's).
George W. Bush will likely die while hunting with Dick Cheney.
Rain is predicted mostly by satellites, radars, and weather tools. Most of the meteorologists predict rain by watching at tracking clouds, fronts, and wind direction. The clouds and cloud formation are vital because different types of clouds produce different weather. The wind and front systems are vital because they determine the direction of the front.
Where can you get a free astrological prediction?
If the statement "You only get what you pay for!" is true - perhaps that could be considered a mathematical axiom? - then you should not expect any free astrological predictions to be worth having or believing...
Another opinion
If you pay for astrology you are being cheated.
Proof:
Observe a book store or newsstand.
There are many more astrology books than astronomy.
Astronomy books will all have the same conclusions tending to indicate facts.
Astrology books: no two the same; no agreement; no facts; many different ideas.
QED
In the future when you ring you can automatically see the person who you are talking to and your mobile phone will do whatever you tell it to without you pressing any buttons
What about the Predictive Index Test?
It's really not that simple.
The PI test is not about right or wrong, it's about where you fit best.
I took the test for a company once and they were gracious enough to share the results with me and it was quite amazing how accurate the result was.
Sure you can "fake it" by answering randomly, but most likely you'll fake yourself. It might be easy to answer "the good questions", but that might not be necessary what the company is looking for. There are company who wants their managers to be like little dictators, chose understanding and sympathetic and I guarantee you won't get a job there. Take a construction superintendent, for the most part the good ones have an ego bigger than the solar system and most companies want it that way, so if a company it's honest to itself they will actually want "SELFISH" somewhere in there.
The best I can recommend is, be honest.

What is the predicted future of Krakatau?
Almost 126 years to the day since Krakatoa first showed signs of an imminent eruption, It might very erupt soon enough
Can scientists predict when a tornado will happen and how?
Only to a limited degree. There are two levels of tornado forecasting: long-term and short-term. In long-term forecasting, scientists rely on regional weather patterns and computer models to find regions that will be at risk, usually over a period of a few hours. These forecasts can be made up to a few days in advance, and become more accurate as the predicted event draws closer. Long-term forecasts can asses the general tornado risk in a region on a given day, but cannot tell where or when individual tornadoes will touch down.
Short-term forecasts use Doppler radar and eyewitness reports to track thunderstorms that may produce tornadoes. These predictions are made on time scale measured in minutes. They can provide warnings for specific locations, but cannot predict exactly when a tornado will form.
What is the name of the famous groundhog that predicts the weather on Groundhog Day?

What happens to period blood when menopause starts?
Menopause means a stopping of having periods. There IS no period blood.
Satellite imagery and readings from buoys at sea report the present weather conditions. This information is entered into computerized forecast models, which try to predict that the weather, including the hurricane, will do.
