Renaissance

The Renaissance, was a huge cultural change in the medieval world, that stemmed from Italy. After the black plague, which caused widespread death, there was a huge shift in the way people thought. One result was the emergence of humanist philosophers and artists, who led the Renaissance movement.

The humanists of the Renaissance, in their artwork, literature, and philosophies placed an emphasis on individual people, which was the main theme of the Renaissance.

This also led to a rebirth, of classical Greek and Roman culture, and many of the artworks of the Renaissance era had resemblances to classical artwork, such as the famous statue David.

Florence is more typically known as the center of Renaissance art.

It was in Florence that the rapidly-expanding wool trade strengthened the city's economy to such a degree that a whole new class of nobility, headed by the Medici family, was born. This new class of nobility had the money and leisure to sponsor some of the greatest works of Renaissance art.

Without Florence, the Italian Renaissance would have been extremely different, and perhaps never happened at all.

There was no clear break between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In fact most historians probably would say there was a period of 50 to 150 years when they overlapped.

The most commonly used date for the end of the Middle Ages is probably 1453. Other very commonly used dates are 1485 and 1492. There are historians who use dates as early as 1401 and as late as 1516.

Some historians use 1300 as a date for the beginning of the Renaissance, as it is an approximate date for the writings of Dante and the artwork of Giotto di Bondone. Other historians date the beginning of the Renaissance to 1401.

We might be tempted to say 1401 was the date when one ended, and the other began, but the event that caused that year to be used was the awarding of a contract to build bronze doors for the Baptistery of Florence Cathedral, which might seem rather trivial compared to the fall of Constantinople or Columbus's first voyage.

Nearly all the histories I have read say that the Renaissance began before the Middle Ages ended, so there was some overlap. I think possibly all of them would have put 1454 into the Renaissance.

The dates I have seen for the end of the Middle Ages range from 1400 to 1517. Most of them have been 1453, but a few have been 1492 or 1400. So some, but possibly not most, historians would put 1454 in the Middle Ages.

3D art is called bas relief and it had been used for centuries before the renaissance. It was used in one form or another in building adornment and decorative arts all over the world and is found in ruins as far afield as Mexico and South America, Greece and Rome, Egypt and Syria, India and Cambodia, and many more places.

Well, the Renaissance is divided into two parts: early and high. So really, the High Renaissance would be considered the transitional period between Early Renaissance and Baroque. In most of Europe, the High Renaissance lasted until about 1600, when the Baroque period began. An allegory is an extended metaphor, or a story with two meaning. One meaning is literal and the other meaning is symbolic. So then, in renaissance art work, a painting of a violin is not simply a painting of a violin, it would have symbolic meaning to the artist that painted the violin.

Major ballet companies do not usually focus on one particular technique, such as RAD. This is only one style to keep the standard and process of assessing an individuals technique. Major ballet companies prefer rounded techniques that an individual has formed over a period of time. A style that suits their particular body shape and abilities. This may be RAD orVaganova, Chechetti and Paris Oprea styles. All of which usually demand a very high standard when being assessed at a high level (vocational level).
