How do you check the transmission fluid in a 2000 Saturn L series?

No dip stick. That's supposed to be a "sealed" transmission, meaning that you shouldn't need to service it; but this is the real world so we all know better.

There is an access plug at the side of the transmission just for checking the fluid level. You'll need to either have someone show you where it is or you'll need to get the book so you can find it.

Where is the port for freon in Saturn l 300?

Some old advice is still very appropriate, especially in the age of such complex machinery. "If you don't know what it is, don't mess with it." That certainly holds true for automobile air conditioning systems.

BUT...

The AC refrigerant portS are on the AC hoses; one is near the compressor, the other is behind the engine. If you're planning to add refrigerant, you should use gauges that test both the high side AND the low side.

Recalls on 2000 Saturn Ls-2 models?

The tail lights were recalled and a more reliable replacement has been available for several years.

There was a problem with a gasket on the cooling system.

There was a problem with the original coolant.

There was a problem with the AC seals.

Your Saturn l series radiator pusher and puller fans come on right after you start the engine What is causing this?

Clean the sensor in the Air tube between the filter box and the throttle body. I believe it is an air temperature sensor. If that doesn't work try replacing it. You will probably also have a "Service Engine Soon" light. go to Auto Zone and have your code read for free. While there get some mass air flow sensor cleaner and spray the sensor, also get some dielectric grease and use this on the plug in connector you may only have a bad connection. This should fix the problem, but if it doesn't the code you get from Auto Zone will lead you in the right direction, they can give you an explanation of the code and what needs to be done to fix it. Once the problem is corrected you may have to drive around 50 miles for the code to reset itself. Auto Zone will not reset your codes, only read them for you.

How do you change a clutch express L300?

Jack up vehicle and place 4 stands front and back so you can easily roll in and out of under the car. Disconnect battery.

1. Remove tailshaft (4 bolts) at the rear uni joint.

2.Remove speedo cable and disconnect reverse light wires and earth straps attached to gearbox. Disconnect clutch cable and gear selectors,

3.remove bolts that hold the starter motor and push starter motor back

4. Remove remaining bolts around the bell housing

5. Place jack on wheels under the gearbox pan and jack up (At this point you may want to drain the gearbox oil prior to using the jack to make the gearbox lighter)

6 remove gearbox rear mount bolt and nut

7.Gently pull the jack backwards and remove the gearbox and bell housing

8. Remove clutch assembly from flywheel by unbolting the securing screws.

9.remove flywheel and get it machined. Replace the spigot bearing.(6002V bearing).

10. refit flywheel with a bit of loctite 243 on the nuts and tighten to approx 65ft/lb.

11. Fit new clutch plate and flywheel and use a clutch aligning tool while doing this. It is so the shaft lines up with the cluth plate.

12. Remove old clutch thrust bearing and clips from bell housing and clean up the shaft and bell housing. Fit new thrust bearing with a light smear of grease on the shaft where the bearing slides and grease the shaft spline lightly. Carefully put the clips in either side of the thrust bearing and attach to the pivot. Check the bearing pivots smoothly by moving the clutch lever back and forth.

13. Align gearbox on the jack and insert into the clutch assy.

14. if gearbox is not going in far enough for bolting up, have someone put a wrench on the engine bottom pulley(harmonic balancer) and gently rock back and forth while you manouver the gearbox shaft in.

15. When shaft and gearbox has gone in as far as possible start bolting up and this will pull the gearbox in the remaining 5-10mm. Bolt up slowly and sequentially so the gearbox is being pulled in evenly.

16. Refit starter motor and tailshaft. Check everything is reconnected and bolted up. Gearbox oil top up.

17 adjust clutch cable if needed.

As far as clutches go this is a straightforward job that needs approx 4hrs to reassemble once you have all the parts and flywheel machined. You only need basic tools 13mm ,14mm, 17mm, 12mm sockets and socket extensions , 15/16" socket for gearbox pan. Ring spanners for tailshaft, Pliers.

Car still running after turned off and key removed from ignition?

The throttle may be jammed. If the car has been unused for a period of time make sure that the throttle mechanisms are well lubricated.

How do you change the starter on a 1996 Saturn?

Disconnect the battery from the car. Raise the car and support as you will be working underneath the entire time. The starter is on the back side of the engine bolted into the transmission with two bolts. The bolts are the same size, the front bolt is easy, the back bolt is easy to remove with a 3/8" drive wratchet with a 4-6" extension. Putting it back in is a trick. Unbolt the starter and pull out of the transmission. Undo both bolts holding the wiring on than remount the wiring to the new starter. Put it back in place and put in the bottom bolt first, bring it up close to snug but allow yourself some play to move the starter for the top bolt. Take your wratchet and extension and put a good glob of grease into the socket than insert the head of the top bolt. The grease will allow you to keep the bolt in but still allow you to pull the socket off when completed. Slide it behind and feel for the hole, than move the starter slightly until you catch a thread. Tighten it all up than reconnect your battery and your good to go.

How do you turn off or reset a check engine light for a 1999 Saturn SL2?

I had a 1999 Saturn SL2 and my husband took both the battery cables off and then replaced them. This caused the check engine soon light to go off. == other answer== Depending on what triggered the light to go on, you could fix it, and the light has a chance to go out on it's own (I have had mine come on 4 times , 2 of which I have had to reset with a diagnostic computer from a local parts place, once it went out on it's own [bad spark plug] and THIS time it's still on) the answer above is correct only to the point of the next self-diagnostic check from the car, if something is still wrong, the light will come back on The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the EMISSIONS of the vehicle.. Don't let it bother you as it is a good thing once you understand it. One point that was brought up a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say a small percentage of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have multiple computers aside from the powertain computer) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they are different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests or

Where is the accelerator pedal position sensor on a 2001 Saturn 3.0L?

There is a throttle position sensor mounted to the throttle body. That's the place where the air intake valve sits near the top of the engine. Look for the throttle butterfly valve; on the end of the butterfly valve shaft should be a little sensor with wires connected; that's the throttle position sensor.

How do you replace odometer light bulb in 2002 Saturn L200?

Below the instrument cluster is a trim piece that goes across the width of the instrument cluster. Remove the 4 screws then remove the trim piece.

Remove the screws that retain the instrument cluster, then carefully pull the instrument cluster STRAIGHT BACK. The instrument cluster plugs in to a matching socket in the dashboard. Be certain that the pins do not get bent.

It's a good idea to replace all of the bulbs once one burns out. The rest will be failing soon.

There are two types of bulbs used in the dashboard, they might only be available at a GM dealership.

Replace all of the bulbs.

Carefully push the instrument cluster back into the dashboard, then test the lights and make certain that the instruments and indicator lights work before putting everything else back together.

Replace the trim ring around the instrument cluster.

Replace the bottom trim piece...

Done.

... at least, that's how it works on the 2000 LS

Change a Saturn L200 brake light?

If you want to change the brake light, you will need a Torx screwdriver. You will also have to open your trunk and remove the lens cover assembly.

On a Saturn LS Wagon which fuse box contains the fuses for brake lights and tail lights and how is it labeled?

The fuse for the brake lights are under the hood in the fuse box by the battery. Lift the cover and look at the inside of the cover to see where the fuses are. Note that the tail light fuse is on the third row from the right (nearest the driver) at the top. It is a 15 amp fuse. Don't be surprised if the fuse is good. 2000 Saturns have had a recall on the tail light assembly because of a high failure rate. Contact your dealer for FREE taillight assembly replacement, even if the vehicle is out of warranty.

www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t237239.html RobE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My 2001 Saturn L300 had random problems starting hot, cutting off intermittently and erratic transmission shifting. No check engine light. Multiple posts on different sites indicated the CPS as the cause. Purchased sensor from Saturn dealer for ~$100 and installed. Installation very simple. Sensor is located just under the oil filter housing on the front of the engine block. Very accessible from front of car without jacking or ramps. Sensor is held in by 1 male torx screw. Good luck!

What color is antifreeze for 1999 Saturn sL2 sedans?

1999 SL2 should have what is known as DEXCOOL in the cooling system. It's a GM special coolant that you can obtain at any Autozone or your preferred parts provider. The color in this should be a pinkish color if not orangish. Hope this helps you. DO NOT USE GREEN ANTIFREEZE/COOLANT IN YOUR ENGINE OR MIX COLORS OF COOLANT! YOU WILL CAUSE A GELATIN LIKE SUBSTANCE TO FORM, AND POSSIBLY CLOG/RUIN YOUR COOLING SYSTEM.

How can you bypass a thermostat on a 2000 Saturn LS?

You CAN just remove it; but that introduces another set of problems. The computer monitors the engine temperature, and if the engine is not warming sufficiently the computer will start to report a fault. A cold engine does not perform as well, and if the thermostat is removed the engine will not be able to reach operating temperature. The thermostat restricts coolant flow into the radiator while the engine is cool. Once the engine warms to operating temperature, the thermostat opens, allowing excessive heat to be dissipated through the radiator.

Removing the thermostat is NOT recommended and can significantly affect performance and engine wear.
