When do you need to change a timing chain on an 2001 Saturn 2001?

If it is a mechanical chain, then NEVER!!! It is part of the Engine.

If it is a SOFT CAM BELT, then at the recommended mileages; usually about 30,000 - 50,000 miles, depending on engine and manufacturer.

If a soft cam belt snaps/breaks, then it will wreck the engine. So if you are in any doubt about its last change, then change the soft cam belt, and note the mileage(s).

What causes sputtering in a Saturn when hitting the gas?

There can be several causes. If the "check engine" light is on, the computer has detected the problem and has information for you but you'll need to use a code scanner. (rent, borrow or buy one from your local auto parts retailer)

If the check engine light does NOT come on, it's probably a fuel problem since auto manufacturers don't want to start throwing codes when you run out of fuel.

If you know that you AREN'T out of fuel, check the fuel pressure at the rail. There should be a fuel pressure test port where you can connect a fuel pressure gauge. If the fuel pressure is low, your engine will not be getting sufficient fuel and will run poorly.

Low fuel pressure can be caused by a worn fuel pump, a partially clogged fuel filter or a defective fuel pressure regulator.

Why won't my Saturn sl1 temperature gauge move?

The reason why Saturn S-Series are notorious for having false reading coolant temperature gauges is because of a design flaw. The sensor itself on the early S-Series is made out of a resin. Over time that resin after many heating and cooling cycles, it begins to absorb coolant and/or crack. Basically depending on the year of your SL1 (any S-Series for that matter), it will have a temp sensor that should be replaced. The aftermarket makers of the part have made them in such a way that they are no longer a resin tip, but instead a brass tip. This design is less susceptible to failure and is superior.

F.Y.I

1) 1991-1995 S-Series have two sensors. They are located on the drivers side of the cylinder head below the radiator hose. On the 1991-1995 the sensor which gives information to the gauge in the instrument cluster is the sensor closest to the front of the car (it will have a 1-wire connection). On 1996 and up S-Series, there is just one sensor and it handles the duty of sending the computer a signal as well as the instrument cluster.

Why does the trunk of a 1999 Saturn sc fill with water after rain?

I am guessing that you have a sunroof...if so the drain tubes pass through the trunk compartment and actually couple together on both sides of the trunk. If you pull the trim back from the rear corners of the trunk, right next to the taillights, you should see the tubes. Good luck!!! If you are getting water in there and there isn't a sunroof, it might be a good idea to get it into a dealer!!

Where is the fuel regulator on a Saturn vue with the 3.5 v6?

I don't know about the 3.5L, but on the 2003 Saturn Vue 2.4L and the 3.0L, it's in the fuel filter. You can get the fuel filter for the 2.4L at any auto parts house, around $70.00. The 3.0L fuel filter/regulator, is a dealer item.

Why would a Saturn have no power if it was running fine when you turned it off?

I had this problem with my 1998 SL2. After I shut it off, it would not start up again unless I jump started it. My clock would reset also. When it happened at a convenience store, a guy offered to jump it for me, then he looked and saw that the battery cables were loose. He tightened them and it hasn't happened again. I don't know if this helps or not. ?AnswerSame thing happened to me with my 1998 SC2. Hasnt happened since i tightened the cables. ?Answerthis happened to me about 5 months ago. I have a 95 Saturn sl2. The terminal cable, on back of battery, was not completely connected and needed an entirely new battery. ?Answercould be many things, a bad alternator, a bad battery, or even bad wiring, so if the the battery terminal is fine, have your battery checked, then the alternator and hope that it isn't bad wiring ?AnswerI had the Same Problem last week with my 94 SC1 Coupe. Check the battery with an ohmeter, then check that your wires are connected good. But it is probably your alternator. Dont bring it to a shop because they will charge you a rediculous amount to fix. Just jack the car up and put it on stands, take the right plastic shield off near the right front wheel so u can see your alternator, find the tensioner bolt and take the serpentine belt off, disconnect your battery, use a 14 mm wrench and take off the two bolts holding your alternator on, remove the sensor which clips on, and another wire which is held on by a bolt, i bought a rebuild kit from CND tire and rebuilt it myself for 50 bucks..... but if not u can buy a new one for around 150$ give or take.... then just slap it back in, bolt her on, hook the wires up, put the belt back on ... (WHICH IS ALOT HARDER THAN TAKING IT OFF) Then hook your battery back up and shes good to go....
FYI: Next thing to go on your car will be your fuel pump... all Saturns folow the same road.... alternator first then fuel pump... :-(... good luck..!!

Who asked Do you have a change for a hern in a 1950's television series?

I don't know about the show, but I had the album! it was a screenwriter named Sheldon Allman, who had a record called, I think, "Folk Songs for the 21st Century," that had the song "Do you have change for a hern/I beg you do not spurn/It may sound very funny/I just have martian money..." etc.

It was an album of offkey (not offcolor) songs with a science fiction theme. It was a classic, just sorry I gave it away somewhere along the way.

My recollection is that is was a short-lived sketch series by Red Skelton. I think he raised the question one week and brought a detailed poster the following week showing a whole new monetary system based on the hern.

No, no, no - - it was Milton Berle, who used the phrase as a running gag.

How do you remove the window crank from a 1996 Saturn SE?

A lot of older window cranks are held in with a clip which is difficult to get out unless you buy a special tool sold at auto parts stores made just for this application. If you ask at the parts store they will know just what you're talking about. The tool is pretty cheap in price from what I remember.
