How do you write a telephone conversation?

Writing dialogue is not as hard as you're letting it seem. You have dialogue all the time -- it's called talking. If you honestly cannot think of what your characters are going to say to one another, you need to go take a break and go somewhere out in public. Sit somewhere in the middle of a crowd for one to two hours and just listen to people talking. Then, go home and write down some of the things you heard people saying. That's dialogue.

When you need to have your characters talk, just pretend it's you and a friend (or several friends), and have them say something you'd probably say in the same situation. Then imagine what your friends would say in reply, and go back and forth that way. As you become a better writer, your characters themselves will "tell" you what they want to say, because they become like real people to you.

How many scenes should a screenplay have?

It all depends on how long your movie is, but remember the golden rule, one page = 1 minute of screen time. So try to limit each seen to 3 pages. taking that a screenplay might have around 40 scenes for a decent movie. My second film just wrapped so i know a thing or two about screenwriting.

It all depends on what your story calls for. There is no maximum and no minimum to scenes. If you were to write a movie intended for TV, then you have a seven act structure. It is entirely possible for a single scene to be one entire act in this. It would be much more difficult to do this with a Feature film, who's acts are split into only three. However, its not impossible.

Now, for an example of a very short scene:

INT. NIGHT - STUDY

ARTHUR paces back and forth in his study, holding the letter in his hands. He stops for a moment, the throws then crumples the letter in his hands and throws it hard.ARUTHURDamn it!

And that's it. That's the whole scene Just a small paragraph and two words. The whole point of this is simply to convey the characters feelings about this letter, and because of what we already know from watching the movie, this letter is somehow important.

A scene could also be as long as fifteen or thirty pages. Scenes that are too long, however, can often lead to boredom in the audience. Think of a scene as a paragraph or chapter in a novel. The paragraph contains a single thread of idea. The next paragraph has another idea. All the paragraphs add up to a single thread of idea, which makes a chapter. Scenes do the same thing: they have a particular idea to them. As in the example provided above, the idea in this scene is basically An Unwanted Letter.

So whatever your writing, just write your scenes as long as they need to be and include however many you need. Remember that you are typically looking at a 90-120 page script, so you can only have as much text and as many scenes as will fit in that page limit. You can go 180 pages for the equivalent of a three-hour movie, but such movies are rare and must be very good, like Lord of the Rings or Titanic. One page is about 1 minute on screen.

Is an illustrative essay similar to a descriptive essay?

A descriptive essay uses the 5 senses to describe a sensory experience. Two real world areas it used in is travel writing, and food or restaurant reviewing. An illustrative essay uses "word illustrations," or descriptive language, to explore a life learning experience. In this type of essay, the writing describes a lesson learned, either personally or by larger humanity. I am writing a screenplay that involves the characters singing - you know like a typical Disney movie - how do I go about it - do I keep writing singing in parentheticals every time a character sings?

It really doesn't matter, as long as your cast and crew can understand what you mean. You could put "starts singing" in the action before the dialogues and "finishes singing" afterwards.

Does it matter how you write a script that you will direct?

First and most important: The script should be very very good and it should be comprehensible to the producers and investors, and you are already famous enough to demand that the script is accepted for production and that you direct it, you are just messing with yourself about being the director. (But dream on!) Let's assume, however, that you do NOT have that fabulous reputation and terrifyingly powerful sway in the theater world (safe assumption if you're writing to "Answers.com" for advice). Then, assuming the script is stunningly salable ($$$$$$$), and is written in the specified format, in the specified font and size, in the language required, with specific instructions for the stage crew, costume designers, set designers, actors, and with your name and copyright information on the manuscript, you can go absolutely wild with how you write it. But I might warn you: the first hurdle will be to get anyone to read it. Good luck.

What is the definition of infallible?

A:The First Vatican Council in 1870, defined the infallibility of the pope, in Pastor Aeternalis. First of all, chapter 6 says:

9. Therefore, faithfully adhering to the tradition received from the beginning of the christian faith, to the glory of God our savior, for the exaltation of the Catholic religion and for the salvation of the christian people, with the approval of the Sacred Council, we teach and define as a divinely revealed dogmathat when the Roman Pontiff speaks EX CATHEDRA, that is, when, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church, he possesses, by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter, that infallibility which the divine Redeemer willed his Church to enjoy in defining doctrine concerning faith or morals. Therefore, such definitions of the Roman Pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the Church, irreformable. [My emphasis in bold]

On this, Bishop Geoffrey Robinson (Confronting Power and Sex in the Catholic Church) asks how a council can infallibly declare the infallibility of the pope unless we assume in advance that the council was itself infallible. In the absence of infallibility on the part of the First Vatican Council, the pronouncement in Pastor Aeternalis is no more than an opinion.

.

In chapter 4 of the same document, the council appears to have limited that infallibility, by limiting the pope to jealously guarding and explaining what was handed down through the apostles, and not the ability to disclose a new doctrine by revelation:

6. For the Holy Spirit was promised to the successors of Peter not so that they might, by his revelation, make known some new doctrine, but that, by his assistance, they might religiously guard and faithfully expound the revelation or deposit of faith transmitted by the apostles.

The council may not have intended to have one clause limit the other in this way. The pope's pronouncement on the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was certainly not handed down through the apostles, so even if the pope is indeed infallible on certain matters Robinson believes this clause means that the pope was assuming an infallibility he did not have in this case.

In summary:

1. the council taught and declared that the pope is infallible when speaking ex cathedra on faith and morals, but apparently also limited his authority to matters of faith transmitted by the apostles;

2. there is reasonable doubt whether Catholics really ought to hold the pope to be infallible; and

3. there is further doubt as to whether the pope ought to be regarded as infallible when making pronouncements other than to expound teachings transmitted through the apostles, such as on the Assumption of Mary.

What is the orientation of a script?

As a screenwriter, you have some interesting choices to make regarding orientation, and they depend on the perspective you want to offer to your audience.

You can make the audience all observers, so that the results of the different scenes with the different character interactions are known to the audience, but not to the characters.

You can deeply engage the audience by giving them the perspective of one or more of the characters, so that the plot lines in the story are known to one or more characters, but not to all of them.

When you are an expert screenwriter, you can mix these orientations, but that can be confusing. Some instructors will urge you to pick one and stick to it. Again, mixing them up is only for the truly expert crafts-persons.

You have written a script of your own so whom do you contact to post your script and to which mail address should you send your story to get known. I am interested in script writing.?

First, protect your script with a copyright.

Then, you can pitch your story to producers, directors, actors and so forth -- people who can purchase your script.

You can also enter screenwriting contests to get your story noticed.

The market for film scripts is extremely competitive, and if your story is unique, interesting, and well-written, you may attract a buyer who can turn your script into a film.
