CAN TERRORISM BE STOPPED? Terrorism may be well considered one of the most controversial topics today. One can ask twenty different people their feelings on terrorism and what they believed it to be; a person may get twenty different answers. What are the crucial elements in modern terrorism? There is, first of all a fascination on the media publicizing this so much. The nature and history of terrorism as we know it today is that terrorist's like to provoke the public who has the authorities that gives them the upper hand scenario. The only thing that people gain from such an act is capturing attention from the media...=It is never easy for a democratic country to fight terrorism. This mission is made more difficult when that state is subjected to international pressure to conform to impossible standards. Almost every defensive measure taken by Israel - whether it involves passive security measures, legal steps or proportionate and necessary military action - has met with international criticism. Israel will continue to uphold its democratic values; however, it must also protect the lives of its innocent civilians=
Did the taliban help Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden?
Actually it is to be assumed that the Taliban and Al Queda have had some possible relationship as Al Queda moved closer into Afghanistan. They could have some mutual needs and desires such as weapons but it not yet confirmed if they are officially "Allies." Some Taliban leaders have even stated that the leader of Al Queda [Osama Bin Laden] Has disgraced the name of the Muslim people and should be taken out just as the Americans. With this it is thought that they might have a rather rocky relationship. Until further investigation more shall be foretold since Osama Bin Laden was just taken last week. --- Pr. D. Brown
The Irish Republican Army was formed to fight for an independent Irish Republic, which had been occupied by Britain for somewhere around 700 years. Finally, the British offered a treaty in which Ireland would become a Free State, with membership in the Commonwealth, and with loyalty sworn to the British monarch. Additionally, six counties in Ulster would remain British. The treaty passed with the people of Ireland, but met with strong opposition, particularly from the IRA. The Irish Free State Army was established as the official armed force of Ireland, while the IRA remained as an anti-treaty force. They fought each other in a civil war, with the Irish Free State being the victor in that dispute. Groups calling themselves IRA today really don't have as much in common with the IRA under Michael Collins as they claim to, but their declared intent is to force the British to capitulate the remaining six counties to Ireland. Additionally, most of them see the government of Ireland as illegitimate.

The Taliban now control between 65 and 85 percent of Afghanistan, a country where statistics are anyone's guess. (Even the population size of Afghanistan is uncertain: possibly 15, maybe 22 million. The U.S. Department of State's figure on war fatalities 1.5 million has not changed since 1985, although the armed conflict there is now in its 19th year.) Thus far, only three countries have recognized the regime: Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. And even Pakistan is becoming embarrassed by its neighbor.
