What happens if you eat expired tomato sauce?

It depends on how expired the mayo is. If it is 2-5 days expired you should be fine. If it is 1-2 weeks expired you might get sick. I have the solution though. DON'T EAT EXPIRED MAYO! ALWAYS CHECK THE EXPIRATION! Another later ANS: GET SICK? What does that scare tactic mean? Just think for yourself. Keep the opened mayo in the cool fridge like the label always instructs. I have used mayo waaayyy past the printed expiry date and never had any bad physical reactions, and saved some hard earned $. "Sell by" dates DO NOT mean it is now spoiled rotten and totally uneatable. "Sell by" means only food store shelf life. If you own it and forgot to eat eat it: Judge by looking at it, smelling it, and tasting it... how hard is that?

How do you make tomato sauce from scratch without canned or store bought tomato paste and what is the distinction between sauce and puree?

I'm going to let you in on a little secret: anything that you can buy in the store, you can make on your own! This certainly includes tomato sauces. Don't let all those "quick/easy" cooking books and shows fool you; making your own tomato sauce is easy. You don't need no stinkin' cans!

If you want only the tomato sauce:

You'll need:

1 3/4 - 2 pounds tomatoes

large cooking vessel

boiling water (to fill the vessel)

Ice water

Large bowl

1. Blanch the tomatoes

This means to submerge the tomatoes--two or three at a time--in the boiling water. Then take them out and quickly submerge them in the ice water. This will make the skins easy to peel off.

2. Cut them in half and take the seeds out, and then place them in the bowl.

3. Chop them roughly and put them in a pot with a little bit of olive olive with the juice from the bowl.

4. Simmer until desired thickness(anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour). To cheat a little beat, you could add a little flour to thicken it faster.

If you're looking for pasta sauce, saute garlic, onions, and any desired ingredients (carrots, celery, basil what have you) before adding the tomatoes. Do the exact same thing, and season with salt and pepper afterward.

The difference between sauce and puree is that puree is generally just the pureed tomatoes and sauce is usually seasoned.

How long after you make tomato sauce does it need to be refrigerated?

If you had it for a meal , chill it after the meal is over. If you made it for later, chill it right away. Put it in shallow container with a lot of surface and it will cool faster before you place it in the fridge. Since tomato sauce has high asid content, it wont spoil very fast . but it should be kept chilled all the same. It will grow mold on it eventually.

You forgot to put a pot of cooked tomato sauce sausage and meatballs in the fridge last nightThe pot was still hot at 10pmbut was not put in the fridge till 8 this morningDo you need to throw it out?

When in doubt, throw it out! You and your family's health is not worth the $5 worth of pasta, meat and sauce. Think of how much the hospital bill will be if you come down with food poisoning. Bacteria is always present in food, but it grows faster at temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer it is at these temperatures, the more potentially dangerous bacteria could be present. Then you have to factor in your body's ability to fight off this bacteria if you do consume it. Elderly people, young children, and those with poor health are the most vulnerable. Don't take the chance.
