Why would coolant be leaking from behind the main pulley on a 96 V6 Oldsmobile Achieva?
Sounds like water pump needs replacing The main pulley is near the top of the engine. The water pump is toward the front of the engine. It is possible that water appears to be leaking from this pulley, but there is a manifold gasket right above it. Double check to find exactly where the water is exiting the engine block. My first hunch is a leaking gasket.

3a-c with feedback carb wont stay running when coming to a stop. Have to set idle high.?
Ok, I have a 1983 Toyota tercel. It has a 3a-c engine with feedback carb. It's been running pretty good, but when I have to set my idle high (2100rmp) to get it to not die when I stop. If I set the idle correctly, at 1400rpm like it says in the book, or even higher, it will die out when I push the clutch to stop. I keep hearing about mass airflow sensor, where is this thing located? The book I have sucks, and I am unfamiliar with the Toyota emission junk. Also, what about the carb feedback sensors? I read somewhere, I could have sworn my book that you can check them, but now I can't find it. That is my whole story, it would not let me put it all to start with.

How do you change the starter on a 1989 Toyota Tercel?
i'm almost certain its the same as changing a starter on a 93 tercel that i did a few days ago...VERY easy! well, it should be located under the intake manifold towards the back of the engine...there's just two bolts and a nut you have to loosen to get it off...the nut needs 10mm socket and i forgot but i think the two bolts are either the same or 12mm...take out the air filter first so you can remove the starter easier and you can see it better as well...looking at the new starter you boght to replace the old one helps as well, so you can see how the bolt pattern is and estimate where the bolts sre in the engine bay...what i did was: 1) disconnect the battery! or you'll get shocked! 2)jack up car and went underneath...there's a black rubber boot that is over a wire that is connected to the starter once you're under the car remove the boot so you can see the 10mm bolt and disconnect that 3)remove air filter assembly 4)find the two bigger bolts (i think they're 12mm but they could be 10mm) and unbolt those, look at new starter to guesstimate where they'd be...the bolt heads should be facing the driver's side 5)starter should come right off, then reverse the steps to put in new starter 6)reconnect battery terminals & your done!
Where is the fuel filter located and how do you replace it on a 1989 Toyota Tercel?
I have a 1990 Tercel and the fuel filter is on the driver's side in the breather / air filter area. I found it best to have the new filter handy. Simply disconnect the old one with screw driver and pliers. Some gas may come out of the line, if the new filter is handy you shouldn't lose much by putting the new one on quickly. Tighten and you are ready to go. Bill

How do you add gear oil to a 95 Toyota Tercel?
If you look on your gearbox from the front of the car, from underneath, you will see a huge bolt for about maybe 25mm or so that is the drain plug, look for one that has the same properties, it is above the drain plug as common sense tells us, and it could be smaller in diameter but it could be the same depending on your model. That plug on the top is called the fill plug. When your car is at ground level take it off and fill it with appropriate gear oil until it starts drizzling out from the fill plug wait for it to stop pouring and screw it tight. Nothing else to it.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1986 Toyota Tercel?
From personal experience of George Paschal, Fort Pierce, FL, USA Headlight bulb = Headlamp A clip has a tab-in-slot type on its front and a squeeze type on its rear and can be removed from the front side and/or the rear side. Spread cloth or cardboard under car to catch parts that fall. Re-assembly just might be difficult if you are missing a clip or screw from 1986. Remove front grill clips, and remove front grill. Make sure you do not lose the three or four clips {each clip has more than one part to it). Remove four headlight housing clips of dead headlamp, and by turning headlight housing appropriately, maneuver it out into the space vacated by the front grill, and remove it. Make sure you do not lose the clips {each clip has more than one part to it). Remove four screws of thin metal headlamp frame, and remove frame. Headlamp may fall out then, so pull it out enough to detach 3-prong plug on the back of the bulb. Plug new headlamp into socket. Turn on headlight switch to test new headlamp. Assuming test was successful, hold headlamp in place and install thin metal headlamp frame and the four screws. Re-assemble/install clips into headlight housing, maneuver the housing back into place, align rear of clips with holes in framework and install by pushing headlight housing into place. You will hear the clips snap into place. Re-assemble/install clips into front grill, align rear of clips with holes in framework and install by pushing grill into place. You will hear the clips snap into place. Good luck!
