If you're trying to fix your own car, you should get a Haynes manual from Auto Zone for your car. A Haynes manual is geared more for the home mechanic than the Chiltons manual, which is geared for a mechanic. Either way, a good auto parts shop should be able to help you find it.

Hi, We have 2 940's-- a wagon and a sedan, both '93's. The wagon has often made 22.5-24 mpg on long trips, loadedw/ 2 kids, a roof box and lots of cargo, driving 772-77mph. Sedan recently made more than 27 on a 500-mile round trip. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a 95 940 sedan. I average around 20 mpg for mostly in city driving with a small amount of highway. I've never gotten lower than 17 mpg when I was driving on very low tread tires with low oil and an exhaust leak. Recently I drove a 600mi roundtrip with 5 people in the car (70-80 mph average), and I had an average of 26-28mpg. On a 800mi roundtrip to NY (including some NYC rush hour driving) I averaged 25-26mpg with 5 people in the car.

THERE ARE SEVERAL POSSIBILITIES. 1. Check fuel pressure between filter and fuel rail, should be 42 P.S.I. 2. If fuel low or not present, chech for clogged fuel filter. 3. Check for faulty fuel pump relay. Known to fail. 4. Fuel pump failure is not common, but known to cause no start condition after run in. Listen for fuel pump priming when ignition switched on. 5.Mass airflow sensors are known to fail. During no start, unplug mass air flow sensor and check for restart. If vehicle starts, suspect sensor. 6. Check for spark during no start, ignition module failure is common when hot. after cool down period vehicle may restart. If no spark condition is intermittent, suspect ignition module. 7. If check engine light is on, check for diagnostic trouble codes, they can help guide you in diagnosis.

On right-hand drive car the control unit can be found next to your right foot behind a plastic cover.

I had the same problem and it was the air flow meter - - expensive to change but certainly cured the problem

We have a 1995 940, which had a similar fault, in the end we had to change the fuel relay, MAF (air flow) sensor and fuel pump :( parts from Volvo were VERY pricey but we were able to get them quite reasonably from dismantlers

OK, so I don't know about wagons or what the person above said, but my 95 940 has a much smaller tank. It has roughly 19.5 gallons in its gas tank. The most I filled it up was 19.4 gallons while my car was barely moving to the gas station (I was going 10 mph, couldn't go faster). If you look at the manual it says 19.5 gallons, 5/8 gallon after the fuel light comes on. I personally think its closer to 1 gallon or even more after the fuel light comes on, but I've never filled up more than 19.4 gal.

I am in Australia so it is right hand drive but the flasher unit is located behind the bonnet latch on the far right hand side of the vehicle. Might be left for you but you have to remove a plastic cover under the steering wheel. Then the flasher is located at the top of a fuse box under the dash. you would have to lay on the floor of the vehicle to be able to see it. Take a torch, it's a bit dark.

This is a common problem with the instrument cluster connections on the back of the cluster itself. The contacts need to be resoldered. Remove the cluster, and use a solder iron to heat and reflow the solder connections.

NO, not really, the rear seat of my 940 has an arm rest that drops down to allow you to put long items from the trunk and into the rear of the car.

Access to the trunk from the inside back seat can only be done via this small hole,which is about 6 inches square, so it would depend on why you want to access the trunk from this area.

If say you left your keys in the trunk then yes you could open this wee hole and put your hand in, but if you wanted to climb into the trunk, then No.

That's a good thing. The temperature guage is supposed to show a good medium once the car is warmed up enough. If the temperature guage begins to go towards the red mark, then there is an occurring of overheating in the engine. If the temperature guage shows its under the halfway point then theres a very cold temperature climate and a possible freeze warning.

Some light bulbs are interchangeable, the door lock motors are too, and probably some seat pieces; if you worked hard to find a way to fit it, the stereo is probably interchangeable as well. The body parts require heavy modification to swap them, it's usually not worth the hassle, and the engine would, probably, also require heavy modification to fit.These two cars have very different bodies, and drive trains. There will not be a plethora of interchangeable pieces.

Do not put a car starter in your boat, boat starters and alternators cost more because they are sealed to keep any electrical sparks from blowing up your boat if there are any gas fumes in the engine bay. The cheapest way to go is to take it to a rebuilder and have yours rebuilt. You will be taking a big risk if you use an automotive starter and it is also illegal by coast guard guidelines.

i it should be changed every 30,000 miles but mine shifts better if i change it alot sooner. but it takes dextron 2D or 2E, it seems hard to find you could prolly use multi vehicle trans fluid. Added note: I've been using Dextron III in my 1994 940 at the suggestion of the dealer. ks
